In order to start my next listening project, I just need somebody to name any act that has had at least one single that has reached the UK chart in its history.

Thank you.
Mariah Carey first entered the chart on the week ending 04.08.1990, so that is the chart I will examine first.
Before I get to the top 40 I will listen to the other new entries in the top 100, starting with a club tune I have never ever heard before:
#99. M.C. Showbizz & The Lap 1 Crew - Gotta Turn The Music Up
It never troubles the chart again after this week, and neither does the artist - so the chances of me hearing it today were pretty slim really. I mean, it's not terrible, I've certainly heard a lot of dance music that's harder to get into than this so I can't see why it didn't get a bit higher. I actually found myself quite enjoying it by the end!

#98. MC Sean & DJ Randy - I Will Survive-Or Maybe Not (Medley)
Another single week record, and I'd be surprised if many people had heard this before. I mean it's an ok version of the Gloria Gaynor classic, with some bloke talking to her and the artists calling it a medley. It's not terrible, but I could live without hearing it again.

#97. Cher - You Wouldn't Know Love
Now we're talking! This is an absolute classic Cher rock ballad, which was actually written by Michael Bolton and Diane Warren, and recorded by Michael on his 'Soul Provider' album at about the same time. It was the fourth single to be taken from Cher's absolutely fantastic 'Heart Of Stone' album, and went on to reach #55 - but it should have been a massive top ten hit because her version is on fire!

#96. Manic MC's Featuring Ricky Lyte - The Beat
Another single just spending a solitary week at the lower end of the chart, and another I didn't even have a clue existed. I know the Manic MC's though, from their 1989 single 'Mental', which reached #30 on the chart. This is an ok dance record - I would have danced to it in a club if it came on, and I'd imagine it would be a bit of a grower.

#94. Heavy D & The Boyz - We Got Our Own Thang
Originally a #69 hit a year earlier, this Hip-Hop track was re-released in 1990 and did even worse, just reaching #94. It's not too bad, I don't mind it really, I just think the market was pretty saturated with dance records at this time and a lot of them just weren't well known enough. Their 1991 remake of Third World's 'Now That We've Found Love' was pretty good though.

#87. No Sweat - On The Edge
Something a bit different now - an Irish rock band! I have to confess I have never heard of these in my life, but they had three minor hits in the lower end of the chart in the UK, although their previous single got to #1 in Ireland, and this one got to #11. It didn't get higher than #87 here, which is a bit sad because it's actually quite catchy - although it does sound more 80s than 90s so perhaps that's why.

#84. Ben Liebrand Featuring Nasty Chat - I Wish
This one didn't climb any higher either. Nasty Chat is a female rapper, in the vein of Rob 'N' Raz I suppose - and this is another single that I could have got into if it had been a bigger hit because it's not bad at all. I did love Ben Liebrand's remix of 'Eve Of The War from War of the Worlds the previous year.

#83. Jocelyn Brown - Freedom/Somebody Else's Guy
Jocelyn Brown's power lungs can work their magic on pretty much anything, and 'Freedom' sounds like the club smash that never was. I do really like it actually, and am quite shocked it didn't get any higher. 'Somebody Else's Guy' was always a classic, so any new mixes of that are always going to go down well in a club too.

#81. Claudia Brucken - Absolut(e)
Claudia Brucken's band Propaganda had some amazing records in the 80s, including the phenominally good 'Duel', but I have to admit to not knowing any of her solo stuff. On first listen I am really liking this, and I can imagine after a couple more listens I will be hooked. It didn't do terribly well in the charts, climbing another ten places to #71, but it does make me want to check out more of her stuff, because I love her voice.

#80. Billy Idol - L.A. Woman
This was quite low for Billy Idol at the time, but I guess the public had moved on from his type of pop/rock that had been popular in the eighties. It's a cover of a song originally by the Doors, and it got as high as #70. It's pretty good but not a song I'd immediately dig it if I wanted to play a Billy Idol song.

#78. Was (Not Was) - How The Heart Behaves
I've never heard this one, I don't think. Was (Not Was) had a bit of chart success in the 80s and 90s, but they had more songs like this that got lost by the wayside. Their previous single had been a successful cover of the Temptations uber-classic 'Papa Was A Rollin' Stone', which reached #12, but this follow-up could only make it to #53. It's good though, I really like it! They are one of those bands who probably have a lot more good songs than you think.

#74. Mariah Carey - Vision Of Love
And here she is! The debut single by some singer called Mariah Carey, and straight away you can tell she has got a powerful enough voice to go places. The song took a reasonably slow climb to #9 but it got there on merit, because I still say this is the best thing she ever recorded.

I'll probably carry on with some more tomorrow, but that has been fun so far!

#63. Candy Dulfer - Saxuality
This follow-up to the hit instrumental with David A. Stewart (of Eurythmics fame), 'Lily Was Here', only managed to climb as high as #60. I don't think I've heard it before but it certainly sounds like it could have been a hit - in fact, by the end of the song I'm liking it quite a lot and will definitely be playing again.

#62. Big Fun - Hey There Lonely Girl
This Stock, Aitken, Waterman boyband had a very short run of chart singles, of which this was their last, never climbing higher than #62. It's a ballad that was most successful for R&B singer Eddie Holman in 1969, and they don't mess it up - but don't really add anything to it either.

#57. GTO - Pure
Apparantly GTO stands for 'Greater Than One'. Another dance track that I don't remember ever hearing before, but I quite like it actually, it's quite trippy and one of those tunes that you can get into in the moment but it doesn't matter if you never hear it again.

#54. Fields Of The Nephilim - For Her Light
I was really expecting to dislike this because I've always found their music to be too dark and quite hard work, but I'm actually quite pleasantly surprised. Maybe it's the mood I'm in today, but I'm really getting into it. I mean, it's pretty hard to know what he's singing but It's another one to lose yourself in the moment to.
