I find it hard to have a 2nd team. There are teams I have soft spots for and like to see do well but it's painful enough following Boro without adding another club's misery.
As neighbouring (but not rival) clubs, I like to see Hartlepool and Darlington do well.
Macclesfield used to be my pet Conference team until they got promoted. I like to see all the north-east non-league clubs do well.
Meadowbank Thistle were my pet Scottish team until they became Livingston.

Due to relative geography, I like to see Retford do well in non-league-non league. Non-League would be Histon, due to its closeness to my dad's side and cos a player comes from the town 3 miles from me. My dad and dad's uncle always supported Luton, so always see what they do. A mate from a few years ago who now has moved away was into the Gills, and at the time he was at school, Ipswich, Norwich and Gills were 7th, 8th and 9th in the Division 1, now called Championship. Leeds is my uncle's side. Mum supports Lincoln. Neighbours up where my uncle lives are into Notts County.
So I don't have second teams, just watch out for teams that have family or friends support.

I've removed most of the 2nd teams... I usually have a team to follow in each of the divisions, have done since I was 10 or 12, although it got a bit tricky when teams I followed got promoted/relegated and ended up in the same division (as regularly happened with Brighton)... my "2nd teams" for next season: Championship: Coventry/Newcastle (split family loyalties: my dad's side supports Coventry, my mum's side supports Newcastle) League One: Brighton (closest league team to where I grew up) League Two: Shrewsbury (used to live near there; lost play-off final ) Conference: Oxford (home town, hence outright 2nd team) I wonder if anyone else has as many secondary allegiances? I used to have a Premiership team which was my favourite team throughout the 90s, but that shall remain nameless! Scottish team - Hearts, because of Nicola from here Lge 1 - Gillingham, as my nearest league team Lge 2 - Apart from Gillingham used to be Brentford and Aldershot last season from time to time because of Reading players on loan there. It remains to be seen whether i'll take any interest in Brentford next season, but this will be the first time for years i wont be following any teams in this division. Blue Sq Prem - Mansfield because of Andy, Eastbourne because of a mate, and Ebbsfleet as they're a Kent team. Below that there's Maidenhead in Blue Sq South as i used to live there, and also lower down Whitstable/Herne Bay/Canterbury, all local teams from time to time. As the Prem is so magnified (would also say overhyped) and all-consuming i used to struggle to keep up with those teams when Reading were in the prem, certainly the league teams anyway.

A secondary allegiance is a sin against nature. /me wags finger I look out for their results, know where they are in the table, and like seeing them do well, but that's as far as it goes. I don't follow any of them nearly as closely as I follow Arsenal. I'd rather go to four Arsenal matches than get a season ticket at Oxford (they're roughly the same price), for example, but I would probably go to see Oxford in a cup match against decent opposition, or a play-off match. Oxford lost to Torquay in the FA Cup 2nd round this season; after beating Blackpool in the 3rd round, Torquay were drawn at home to Coventry - now that would have been an interesting game for me to see!

Pretty much spot on frag. Only difference for me is i wouldnt go to see a Gillingham playoff game as i refuse to pay the ticket prices. I tend to take more interest when Reading arent playing that day, or to a lesser degree if we havent got a positive result.
Im hoping to see Maidenhead for the first time next season as they'll be playing at Dover which is less than an hour away. Thats different as its a specific game of interest, but generally i wouldnt go to a game if it clashed with a Reading home match, whether i was at Reading that day or not, though there was one Herne Bay game in the fa cup i wished i'd gone to instead of going to Reading last season!

This thread hasn't been used in a while, so slightly scared to post here! Anyway, I'm an Arsenal fan and have been all my eighteen years (Even though I was brought up in a Liverpool household). And being a Welshman I do like to see Swansea and Cardiff do well also.

Nice to hear from someone with Welsh affiliation. Don't seem to be many round these parts.

There's not many Welsh around here? Oh dear, dear me. That's not good.

Well there's Nicky... I think I'm stuck after that. There was Marcus who suddenly claimed to be half-Welsh when Cardiff got to the FA Cup final last year but he's gone now. Welcome, Jack.

I had Barnet as a second team until Bradford City ended up in the same division as them. If Bradford go up this season and Charlton don't I'll have to drop Charlton next season, and probably adopt Barnet unless they go up as well.
If Barnet go up and Charlton don't I will have to choose between them for next season.
I want a team for actually going to watch games which isn't practical for me for either Bradford City or Heart of Midlothian.
