Nice one. I have to say I have no idea what my chart had in it, I must try and find it.

A Design For Life was one of those on my list of 5, it being the one from 1996.

I've just skimmed through this thread. I cannot remember what I put in mine at all- will have to dig it out and compare. Waiting to see what is left to come now. Great work in compiling this - Thanks

actually I think there are still 2 more from 1997 in addition to the one from 1987 and the two from 1995. So I think I know what 5 of the last 6 are.

Next we have the highest Christmas song in our countdown 6 Pogues featuring Kirsty MacColl - Fairytale Of New York (1420) This received 19 votes but surprisingly no-one had it as their favourite - it was andy & Maximo Mark's second favourite and received 6 top 10 placings overall

What an awful top 10. The Eurythmics is half decent but The Pogues/K McC is almost as vomit-inducing as Mike and The Mechanics.

A truly great song, my #1 and #2 back to back

That Pogues song was the one on my list from 1987.
And the Mike & The Mechanics song was also a classic and although the Marc Almond & Gene Pitney duet was also very good, it should have been a #1.
FONY has suffered a bit of over-playing albeit only for one month of the year.

Onwards and upwards - this is the most recent number 2 in the top 10 5 Natalie Imbruglia - Torn (1438) This received the most votes (24) but surprisingly was not anyone's top choice - it managed 7 top 10 placings, the highest being Thor's number 2

Torn is a very good song, also suffers a little from overplaying.

Now that is a good song, but again is a little overplayed, it was class at the time though!

Natalie Imbruglia was a great song and really did deserve to be a #1.
Must be one of the biggest selling #2s ever.

And I was so sure Common People would win.
One of the remaining 3 is the one I haven't worked out yet. Obviously one I didn't expect to be as popular as it is. The above were one each of my two from 1995 and 1997 and I know there is at least one from each of those two years in the top 3.

Natalie Imbruglia was a great song and really did deserve to be a #1. Must be one of the biggest selling #2s ever. The biggest selling #2 ever is Last Christmas by Wham, which has already appeared. Torn was the biggest selling single not to reach the top of 1997. It was kept from the top by Barbie Girl.

I'd say there's one from 1995, one from 1997 and one that's better than the both of them from 1985...
