090 Los Campesinos! 'We Throw Parties, You Throw Knives' (21-14- 04-05-08-21-34) www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTbj0Wyx12QThe second of the acts to appear who have three songs in the top 100. The first song I heard from these and so far I'd say it's the weakest. It's still good though which just shows how good the band are. Probably my most anticipated album next year. 089 Maps 'To The Sky' (40-27-18- 10-11-13-18-27-36-39-40*) www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6ZvSQ0uK2oI'd known of these all year but hadn't actually heard anything by them until I saw this song performed at the Mercury Prize. Great song. Looking forward to getting their album for Christmas. 088 The Little Ones 'Oh, MJ!' (36-23- 16-17-17-17-22-29-35) www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVYmFdJlhskReleased towards the beginning of the year I'd not listened to this in ages until I came to compile this and realised what a great song this was. Should've performed better on my chart but 88 is still good. 087 Amy Winehouse 'Love Is A Losing Game' (27- 17*) www.youtube.com/watch?v=bK7eEMdvRLsIt may only have been on my chart for two weeks but it's a fantastic song that will be a sizeable hit at the beginning of the new year. Along with 'You Know I'm No Good' this is easily my favourite of hers. 086 The Go! Team 'Doing It Right' (35-22-10- 05- 05-08-13-18-25-35-40) www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_LoSqyNmeoNumber 86 seems such a low position for a song so good but I really do think that this year has been STUNNING for singles. The order they released their singles is the same as the order I'd preference them. They haven't disappointed after their excellent debut album.

085 Bruce Springsteen 'Girls In Their Summer Clothes' (21-11- 09- 09*) www.youtube.com/watch?v=VsDoo_KYQx4Springsteen isn't someone I've ever particularly liked but this recent radio only single from this years 'Magic' album is surprisingly brilliant. 084 The Shins 'Phantom Limb' (38-34-22-15- 12-27-37) www.youtube.com/watch?v=OkITsv3Nk6MNow this certainly SHOULD be higher than 84! But as it wasn't until 'Australia' was released that I really got into these. I placed it in my top 20 favourite singles but a poor chart performance means it has to settle down here. The first of four entries for them, a record. 083 Modest Mouse 'Dashboard' (27-13- 04-08-13-24-32-37) www.youtube.com/watch?v=erc40wCxRZoNot a band I've ever really 'got'. I could always tell they were good, I just didn't like them much. Like Radiohead or Bjork. But this song is excellent, not fussed with anything else off the album I've heard. 082 The Aliens 'Setting Sun' (33-16-11- 05-06-09-22-28) www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDODB2GRVJYNot quite matching the greatness of 'The Happy Song' which was in my top 10 of 2006 but still a decent song from the former Beta Band members... 081 Client 'Zerox Machine' (10- 06- 06-11-15-25-37) www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5Bhu1KnynQOne of two covers in my top 100. Both have a female vocalist and both are of little known songs. This cover of an Adam Ant B-Side was was of the first tracks I really loved this year, though looking at its chart run I still think I made it underperform. 090 Los Campesinos! 'WeThrow Parties, You Throw Knives' 089 Maps 'To The Sky' 088 The Little Ones 'Oh, MJ!' 087 Amy Winehouse 'Love Is A Losing Game' 086 The Go! Team 'Doing It Right' 085 Bruce Springsteen 'Girls In Their Summer Clothes' 084 The Shins 'Phantom Limb' 083 Modest Mouse 'Dashboard' 082 The Aliens 'Setting Sun' 081 Client 'Zerox Machine'

080 M.I.A. 'Jimmy' (30-11- 05-06-12-17-23-30) www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9_Dk_F98cUI never really liked her first album much, 'Sunshowers' was good but other than that I wasn't really fussed. 'Boyz' was more of the same and I didn't see the fuss but this, the first proper single is amazing. How it was never a huge chart smash I'll never know. It had hit written all over it! 079 UNKLE ft Ian Astbury 'Burn My Shadow' (31-09- 04- 04-05-06-14-19-34-38) www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSsMGNwYDdgFeaturing the singer of the rather underated The Cult, this was always going to grab my attention. I've always liked UNKLE, especially their collaborations, but until this I'd never really been that amazed by them. 078 Simian Mobile Disco 'Hustler' (32-24-14- 12*) www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0Bf6YGbc1cRecent single by these guys and one of the albums strongest tracks. I only prefer 'It's The Beat' but never liked it so much at the time. Can't see why they've not had much success, or atleast a bit more Radio support. They're much better than the awful Justice yet 'D.A.N.C.E.' got it. 077 Bat For Lashes 'Prescilla' (33-15-13- 10-18-25-35) www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtRCzmvvdDUAnother song I really underperformed. I really began to adore this and her voice during the summer. I bought the album just before the Mercury but I was left surprisingly disappointed by it. Really not as good as I thought it'd be. 076 Sunshine Underground 'Borders' (28-12-09- 07-12-23-32-39) www.youtube.com/watch?v=PImcnnOEqdgAlthough this band are really just generic indie there's something about them that I just can't help but like. A lot. This and 'Commercial Breakdown' are both great songs which deserved much better.

075 Magic Numbers 'This Is A Song' (29-20-06- 05-14-32) www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5SgDyiFkoMI doubt it'll be too popular a choice but I really like this song. I'm not really a Magic Numbers fan but every so often they release a song that's completely joyous. Pop perfection perfect for a summers night. They really would've fared much better if they'd released a follow-up in the summer and not as the winter started to draw in... 074 Kylie Minogue '2 Hearts' (23-20-10-04-05*) www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWt7JlRCVesI really do not get the hate around this song at all. I've never been much of a fan of Kylie but I like the majority of her work. Just not that much. But this is fantastic, my favoutite this she's ever done by a long way. 073 Idlewild 'No Emotion' (16-08-10- 03-04-09-19-27-33) www.youtube.com/watch?v=agMreKbmXtUWhilst this years album was again not up to the standards of previous, few acts have recorded six albums as good as these have. One of the albums best tracks, but there are better songs they could've chosen. 072 Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip 'Thou Shalt Always Kill' (20-11- 08-21-20-30) www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoN6XfyQsr4Matisyahu lookalikey. It's a shame I went off this song as I really do feel it's one of the years best singles. Not for everyone, obviously. But sends out a great message. 071 Long Blondes 'Giddy Stratosphere's (18-08- 06-09-19-32-40-38) www.youtube.com/watch?v=56tjK3HRFjUThe first of two in a row from an album released last year. I really liked this album, thought they were a really underated band. This is a good song but I think they can do better; 'Once & Never Again', 'Weekend Without Makeup' & 'Lust In The Movies' being my favourites. 080 M.I.A. 'Jimmy' 079 UNKLE ft Ian Astbury 'Burn My Shadow' 078 Simian Mobile Disco 'Hustler' 077 Bat For Lashes 'Prescilla' 076 Sunshine Underground 'Borders' 075 Magic Numbers 'This Is A Song' 074 Kylie Minogue '2 Hearts' 073 Idlewild 'No Emotion' 072 Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip 'Thou Shalt Always Kill' 071 Long Blondes 'Giddy Stratospheres'

070 CSS 'Off The Hook' (27-10-05- 04-09-21-29-36-38) www.youtube.com/watch?v=33o-neyAng8Their highest placed song this year but largely due to 'Let's Male Love....' not being included as it was in last years top 100. I don't like CSS or their album anywhere near as much as I did a year ago but this is one of about three songs I still love. 069 Rumble Strips 'Time' (38-27-18-08- 05-08*) www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkmcdD8webQCurrent (well, ish) single and second entry for these, somewhat odd, lot. A few more chart weeks left for it next year. And now for a song I'm going to be ridiculed for...068 The Twang 'Wide Awake' (32-20-12-06- 03-15-23-36) www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjnsWeQnz0A"Why on earth have you put this sh*te so high?" is what you're all asking. Yes, I'm fully aware that they're awful and their album is dreadful but I really liked this when it was released and after months without listening I did again to help compile this and I still think it's really quite good. Just like The View, one decent single and then the rest a load of utter tripe! 067 Chemical Brothers 'The Salmon Dance' (36-28-05- 02- 02-05-10-16-20-23-35) www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJEacTZmd7IAnother one which I'd imagine would very much divide people... It's obviously not for everyone and not something you'd expect from the Chemical Brothers but there's something about it I just can't help but... love. 066 Rilo Kiley 'The Moneymaker' (22-07- 03- 03-09-18-23-32-39) www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtyhWo8qngkThey came back this year after Jenny's solo album as mainstream as they'd been. But for me, they'd still not lost it. Another album of finely crafted songs. This lead single was good, but not one of their best and a bizzare choice for lead single.

065 Rihanna 'Shut Up And Drive' (20-13-12-10- 04-06-09-15-17-21-29-39) www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WAapKx2TvMAfter a shock appearance in my top 100 of last year she somehow manages to do it again. I don't like her and hate her voice but sometimes she comes out with a song which is superb. Not often, mind. But she can. Her next single seems pretty good too... 064 Mitchell Brothers 'Michael Jackson (Calvin Harris Remix)' (33-32-29-12- 07-11-11-15-28-31) www.youtube.com/watch?v=zt7VRD6zlSsThe orginal version of this is utterly dreadful. But Calvin Harris has worked wonders with it. Probably not something I'd usually like but an excellent remix. And judging by Calvin's last two singles, he should probably stick to it... 063 The Go! Team 'Grip Like A Vice' (18-09-05- 04- 04-06-10-23-33) www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvIRY4vcctsAnother return I was anticipating this year and once again, it didn't disappoint. The lead single and my standout track from the album. 062 Kings Of Leon 'Fans' (20- 04- 04-06-11-18-24-39) www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1hgRDRc3ugTo this day I have no idea what he's saying but I just find it so catchy and always try to sing along to it... Not a band I usually like much but this is certainly above their normal standard. Only the utterly fabulous 'Bucket' tops it. 061 Dinosaur Jr. 'Been There All The Time' (15- 08-13-25-33-26-25-29-33-35) www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQnes8cvFkcI shamefully admit that I know precious little by these. This was actually the first I ever heard of them on 6Music. It's really good, brilliant piece of rock. 070 CSS 'Off The Hook' 069 Rumble Strips 'Time' 068 The Twang 'Wide Awake' 067 Chemical Brothers 'The Salmon Dance' 066 Rilo Kiley 'The Moneymaker' 065 Rihanna 'Shut Up And Drive' 064 Mitchell Brothers 'Michael Jackson (Calvin Harris Remix)' 063 The Go! 060 Super Furry Animals 'Show Your Hand' (16-12- 10-13-19-24-28-29-36) www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFIbwQViLOQNot a band that get chart success any more. But a band that still show they can be fantastic. There aren't many SFA songs I think are that special, but this is one.. 059 Cherry Ghost 'People Help The People' (37- 01- 01-03-02-06-13-22-34) www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnKhW_RecTAI heard this song once and thought it was so good I charted it. I listened to it loads the following week and thought only a 36 place climb in my chart was good enough for such an gorgeous and exceptional song. I still think it's lovely enough, just not as good as I did. 058 Sugababes 'About You Now' (29-20-21-30-X-X-X-30-21- 15-19-26-29*) www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqBQ0hen9LUFrom a personal chart number one to a UK number one. This did underperform chartwise, it deserves far higher than a number 15 peak. I do feel it's quite a simple song, but oh so fantastic. Definitely one of their very best. Unlike their new single. DREADFUL. 057 Maximo Park 'Books From Boxes' (33-20-13-10- 08-11-14-16-22-31-40) www.youtube.com/watch?v=X20UmfmTVnEI can't say I particularly wanted only one Maximo Park song in the top 50. I really loved them, so much that I'm named after them. But really, this album was the biggest disappointment of the year for me. There's still some really good songs though, like this, they're just not upto previous standards. 056 Sons & Daughters 'Gilt Complex' (33-20- 12-15- 12-14-16-19*) www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvGxzg7-GQoFantastic band. It's a shame they've been going for quite a while now otherwise I'd say they'd be destined for big things. Although it's possibly for the best that they stay small, especially if they continue to make music this good. One of the few good indie bands fronted by a female.

055 Sophie Ellis-Bextor 'Me & My Imagination' (19-10-04- 03-06-11-18-24-30-38) www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXBeb-9pUrcWHY did this flop? It's utterly fantastic and by a long way my favourite thing she's ever done. No justice at all. Pop perfection that should've been HUGE. Or atleast a top 20 hit. 054 Mark Ronson 'Stop Me' (30-28-17-13-09- 08-16-27-34) www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4kBr5WWiBMA shame this wasn't the number one many people were saying it would be. A brilliant version of a classic song. It's what a cover should be, making it different, making new people aware of the song. It's a shame I wasn't at all fussed on the album when I heard it. Easily the best track on it. I did forget about this earlier when I said 'Zerox Machine' was one of two covers in my top 100. It's of course three, this being the highest, but still 52 places lower than last years highest! 053 The Knife 'Marble House' (37-19-14- 10-13-19-29-40) www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WhQ5TiBHVkThey have to be one of the finest bands of this decade, don't they? Both their recent two albums are pure genius. This is amongst their best tracks but I really didn't do it justice in my chart. Gutted to see it so close to the top 50. 052 Air Traffic 'No More Running Away' (23-16-16-22-12-12- 07-11-13-20-27-40) www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ozN068aZg4After the wonderful 'Never Even Told Me Her Name' last year I was really looking forward to what these guys put out this year but was a bit disappointed and had gone off them by the time this was released in about September. But I kept listening to it, and it's actually fantastic. A wonderful piano led ballad which should've been adored by every Coldplay, Embrace and Athlete fan around. But it wasn't. Too good for them, eh? 051 Cold War Kids 'Hang Me Up To Dry' (24-11- 07-09-13-21-26-36) www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrrGKR8Xii4And just missing out on a place in the top 50 is this. Released twice but only charted once. On orginal release, of course. It never did anything chart wise on either release although I thought it might second time around as Radio 1 playlisted. But being Radio 1 they left it in their D-List. Awful station. Album's fairly good, too. Beaten to the top 50 by fellow Americans, but it's not their highest single unlike for Cold War Kids, but their least successful of 3. 060 Super Furry Animals 'Show Your Hand' 059 Cherry Ghost 'People Help The People' 058 Sugababes 'About You Now' 057 Maximo Park 'Books From Boxes' 056 Sons & Daughters 'Gilt Complex' 055 Sophie Ellis-Bextor 'Me And My Imagination' 054 Mark Ronson 'Stop Me' 053 The Knife' Marble House' 052 Air Traffic 'No More Running Away' 051 Cold War Kids' Hang Me Up To Dry'

Let's have a bit of colour! 050 The Hold Steady 'Chips Ahoy!' (19-09- 05- 05-07-14-20-29-37) www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOFeaedv3UcHow am I supposed to know if you're high if you won't even dance? The first single from possibly my band of the year. Never heard of them until about April/May time and they grabbed me instantly. A brilliant rock band. This was the second single they had after I discovered them (I don't know if they released anything before 'Stuck Between Stations'). I did really like it but it was completely overshadowed by their former release... 049 Alex Gaudino ft Crystal Waters 'Destination Calabria' (31-23-09-12-16- 06-07-11-14-21-28-34) www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVi-KtBCes0I Left my job, my boss, my car and my home...One of my favourite dance singles of the year. I adore the brass section of it and think the vocal is fantastic do. I've generally found dance music a bit disappointing this year but this certainly wasn't. Decent video, too. Not usually a fan of this kind of video but I certainly approve.

048 Datarock 'Fa Fa Fa' (40-33-32-21- 13-14-15-19-19-22-25-28*) www.youtube.com/watch?v=43qL77Eq8RIIf you want to whip me into shape, I need a plan or a mission...I think that this has been released before this year. But I never knew it up until recently. I'd heard a couple of their other songs but never been too bothered but I love this, the way it builds and builds and goes on for quite a while but still isn't long enough! I think this is possibly the only song in my top 50 that never made my top 10. However, I'm not totally sure and don't know what the rest of my top 50 is like. I did look when it was first compiled but I've tried to make it a suspense for myself as well. I can't see any others still to come... 047 Kelis ft Cee-Lo 'Lil Star' (37-26-12-07- 02-03-16-34) www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWzrr__wYMQI forget about myself sometimes when there's so many of us around...Kelis isn't someone I've generally liked much so this song took me by surprise. It's really nice and I think Cee-Lo adds to it brilliantly. As you can probably tell from the chart run, I got bored of it fairly quickly. But I really love it again now...

046 Beyoncé Beyoncé & Shakira Shakira 'Beautiful Liar (Freemasons Mix)' (30-22-15-11- 03-05-09-11-12-19-24-34-40) www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zev51hEdk0Let's not kill the karma, let's not start a fight...Beyoncé Beyoncé and Shakira Shakira aren't artists who I'm usually fond of, somewhat unsurprisingly. And the original version of this song was OK, but wasn't going to do much to change that opinion. But when I first heard the remix I loved it instantly and whilst their remixes of Beyoncé are quite similar I think this is easily their best. The third of four UK number ones to chart, I'm sure it's not hard to guess the fourth. 045 LCD Soundsystem 'All My Friends' (32-16- 03-06-15-21-33) www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2V_ZT-nyOsIf you're worried about the weather, then you've picked the wrong place to stay...A HUGE underperformance here. I adore this song now, and really liked it when it was out. But I downloaded the album and felt it was a real disappointment so it dropped down my chart quickly. But recently, especially since 'Someone Great' was released, I really started to like the album and I really appreciate how good this song is now. 7 and a half minutes may seem a long time but I could listen to a hell of a lot more of it. When compiling my favourites list I kept moving it up and up, far more than any other song. First from a 4* rating to a 5*. Then into my top 30, and it ended up at 16. The more I listen to it, the more I think it was about 15 places too low. Genius.

044 Emma Pollock 'Adrenaline' (40-14-05- 02- 02-03-03-09-12-18-31-40) www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGDUSXAmwuAWhen it raises its head and it threatens to stay, don't give the game away...Former Delgados lead singer goes solo. And what a wonderful piece of music this was. A wonderful piano led ballad that anyone would be envious of. A shame it gave her no success and also a shame her album wasn't much cop apart from the three singles. I urge anyone who likes the female voice more than the male one to check this out. 043 Remi Nicole 'Rock N Roll' (14-03- 02- 02-03-07*) www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQlV02c1a2UThey say 'you're not normal, why don't you sing RnB?'...Oooh, another female. A fabulous recent pop song that should've been a massive hit but for some reason was criminally ignored and charted at something like 124. Wasn't fussed with the first song but I really do like this, though I did overplay it when I bought it so not as much as I did.

042 Jarvis Cocker 'Don't Let Him Waste Your Time' ( 01-02-04-04-13-19-30-39) www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1oMtwmTaNQSome skinny b**** walks by in some hot pants and he's running out the door...This seems so old! But then, it is. The album was released in 2006 and this was the first 2007 song to hit the top spot of my chart. As with a couple of earlier songs, this would probably have done much better had I compiled my chart how I do now, at the beginning of the year. A climb to the top and it's likely it would've been top 30! Oh and, fantastic video. One of the years best. 041 Calvin Harris 'Acceptable In The 80s' (38-22-06- 02-04-07-07-15-22-26-34) www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1S3JCknQJ4It was acceptable in the 80s, it was acceptable at the time...I really loved this and got really excited about him and his album but after seeing and hearing everyone else say it wasn't that good I decided to give it a miss and judging by the recent singles it was definitely the correct decision. This is still great though, and I reckon it'd make a good instrumental, not that I don't love the vocal. 050 The Hold Steady 'Chips Ahoy!' 049 Alex Gaudino ft Crystal Waters 'Destination Calabria' 048 Datarock 'Fa Fa Fa' 047 Kelis ft Cee-Lo 'Lil Star' 046 Beyoncé & Shakira 'Beautiful Liar (Freemasons Remix)' 045 LCD Soundsystem 'All My Friends' 044 Emma Pollock 'Adrenaline' 043 Remi Nicole 'Rock N Roll' 042 Jarvis Cocker 'Don't Let Him Waste Your Time' 041 Calvin Harris 'Acceptable In The 80s'

040 Foals 'Mathletics' (16-08- 03- 03-08-14-18-20-24-35) www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjNNWvz3JT4Side way, we'll go sideway, calling all kids, on and on...I like not looking at my End of Year chart myself, it brings pleasant surprises! Like this being top 40. Really underated song and band who I hope will do something more next year. Only just started to like 'Balloons', should've made my chart really! 039 Arcade Fire 'No Cars Go' (28-12-03- 02-03-05-08-10-17-18-26-36-39) www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-7AwA1Xp_0We know a place where no ships go...3 top 5 singles this year but they were unable to add another number one to the two they had from the 'Funeral' era.. I did really like this at its time of release but I'm not quite as fond of it now. It's still great, but I prefer the original version on the 'Arcade Fire EP'.
