lol i love reading how you regret your number 1 in hindsight. lol i still like i miss you by blink 182, best song they did It's not so much that I regret them, just that my music taste has changed since I was 14/15, which I'm sure happens with most people... Thanks for the comment!

Great thread... for comparison: it only took me 153 weeks to get to 100 #1s (back in 2000, I was also following the trend of the actual chart by changing my #1 almost every week. You said you've only had one song that has had two spells at #1. Only two of my first 100 #1s had two spells, but now that total's reached 10 out of 239. I started my chart back in 1999 (three months before my 13th birthday), so the first few years are full of crappy pop #1s that I wouldn't listen to now. Very good list so far, although I'm glad you don't like the Streets one anymore! 153 is quite quick! I've actually had more number ones each year. 04 - 20, 05 - 24, 06 - 26, 07 - 26, 08 - 4 so far...

#18 U2 'Vertigo' ( 01- 01- 01-04-05-05-05-04-07-14-19-23-26-30-34) (15 weeks) www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhWZ7bpfQagEurgh. This is the only one of my number ones which I truly dislike. The other 3 I don't like I can still see why they appealed but this, I can't bear to listen to it any more. Still, must've liked it enough at the time and taste can't always be good. This kept Steriogram 'Walkie Talkie Man' and Jay Z/Linkin Park 'Numb/Encore' off the top! (#100)

#19 Babyshambles 'Killamangiro' ( 01- 01-02-03-03-05-08-08-09-11-14-18-27-29-36) (15 weeks) www.youtube.com/watch?v=ouvitGsX69YThe third and final number one involving Pete Doherty. I still think this was a really good single, just a shame the rest of their output turned out to be crap. Well, most of the singles were ok, but apart from that... (#62)

#20 Green Day 'Boulevard Of Broken Dreams' (02-02- 01- 01- 01-02-04-05-06-09-13-16-22-25-31) (15 weeks) www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxfpMGLMZ7YThe song to end my first chart year at the top was the first song (excluding 'Take Me Out') ever to climb to number one! Released on the same week as Babyshambles I liked that more but this had more staying power and continued to grow. I don't like it as much now, but that's mainly down to the fact I've gone off Green Day. Still a decent song though. It kept Razorlight's 'Rip It Up' from the top spot for its final two weeks, which coincidentally was also released in the same week! (#75 - it was infact knocked off by the song I now rank directly behind it, I think this is the only case where two simultaneous number ones are ranked together now!)

153 is quite quick! I've actually had more number ones each year. 04 - 20, 05 - 24, 06 - 26, 07 - 26, 08 - 4 so far... Yep, very quick... here's the breakdown: 1999 (41 weeks) - 22 2000 - 41 (!!) (up to 63) (no song had more than 2 weeks at the top) 2001 - 34 (up to 97) 2002 - 33 (up to 130) 2003 - 26 (up to 156) (obviously got more settled down here) 2004 (21 weeks) - 9 (up to 165) 2005 (26 weeks) - 14 (up to 179) 2006 - 26 (up to 205) 2007 - 31 (up to 236) - thanks mainly to 14 in the first 18 weeks of the year 2008 (7 weeks) - 3 so far (up to 239 in 409 weeks) So I'll probably get to 250 about halfway through this year.

Excellent read Mark, interesting that even though you've gone off some tracks, they're almost all (with perhaps the odd exception like Basement Jaxx) from within the same genres and sub-genres of music. Looking back at my own #1s, I've covered cheesy pop, dance, indie, urban etc. It took me nearly 6 years to reach 100 #1s. I've only ever had one 1-week #1 and that was Hear'say's "The Way to Your Love" in 2001!

Yeah, when I was younger my tastes were certainly more narrow but now stuff from far more genres gets higher. Most alarmingly is that after 'Good Luck' (1st number one of 2004) the next song to not feature a male vocal to hit the top was my last number one of 2005! Well if ever there was one song to get only one week...

#21 Scissor Sisters 'Filthy/Gorgeous' ( 01-02-04-03-05-06-08-13-20-27-33-37) (12 weeks) www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgI3BVWkuUcSomething a tad different to open 2005. I'd always liked this song and was my favourite song on the album so was glad to see it released and it took advantage of there being not much out at the start of the year to get to the top. (#76)

#22 The Killers 'Somebody Told Me' ( 01-03-04-07-11-09-16-18-21-27-32-34-35-37) (14 weeks) www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MachHzjTDAThe first time with two back-to-back 1 week number ones. I'm not too fussed with this or The Killers themselves now but I was caught in Killers fever at the time and it still is quite a good song which was always going to be number one. (#90 - we're going to start getting to some decent numbers now...) More later (maybe) after I've been out to watch the football!

#23 The Chemical Brothers 'Galvanise' ( 01- 01- 01-03-04-09-14-17-22-27-30-31-35) (13 weeks) www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2hzVV2NwfsThe Chemical Brothers have always been a succesful act on my chart, this being their first number one. All of their singles have reached the top 3 and if I'd have started it earlier then my single of 2003 'The Golden Path' would've spent many weeks at the top too. This kept Athlete 'Wires' and Eminem's 'Like Toy Soldiers' off the top. (#63)

#24 Doves 'Black And White Town' ( 01- 01-05-08-09-11-12-12-15-17-18-21-25-31-35) (15 weeks) www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRir5AyF6dQNow we're talking! I love Doves and this is a belter of a song. The album wasn't all up to previous efforts but this highlight certainly was. Just the two weeks at the top before a host of other excellent other songs were released giving it a sharp two week descent. It continued to keep 'Like Toy Soldiers' and then Willy Mason's 'Oxygen' off the top spot. (#30)

#25 The Futureheads 'Hounds Of Love' ( 01- 01-02-02-02-02-03-04-06-06-07-10-11-14-19-19-22-25-27-28-31-35-34-38-40) (25 weeks) www.youtube.com/watch?v=amh8V-MopUIUnless I've forgotten something this is the first of two cover versions to reach my top spot. I adored it as soon as I heard it and still do to this day, though not quite as much. They're a brilliant band who deserve far more success than they've actually had. Hope their recent third album is up to standard. This kept off Willy Mason 'Oxygen' in its first week at the top and something else in its second... (#13)

#26 Stereophonics 'Dakota' (02- 01- 01- 01- 01-05-06-08-08-10-13-15-19-21-26-29-34-36-36-39) (20 weeks) www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUHjDJxkcSEThey used to be my favourite band. First two albums were awesome and then they lost something and released tripe like 'Have A Nice Day' and 'Maybe Tomorrow'. But then they came back with this. It was stunning and I loved it, the best thing in years and even gave them a UK number one! My re-found faith didn't last too long though as the album wore thin after a while. They managed to have decent singles though atleast. 'Hounds of Love' was behind it for its duration at the top.

#27 Feeder 'Feeling A Moment' ( 01- 01-03-03-05-08-12-20-24-29-32-39) (12 weeks) www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjgQLEZ6vjYGosh it's amazing how one person can influence one's taste. Anyhoo it was a long time ago now and I doubt anyone will remember so I won't bore you with details. It kept The Departure and Daft Punk off the top with their singles 'Lump In My Throat' and 'Robot Rock'. (#96)

#28 Nine Inch Nails 'The Hand That Feeds' ( 01- 01- 01-03-05-08-10-12-15-18-19-20-25-31-33-39) (16 weeks) www.youtube.com/watch?v=kk7SKP4PJ2wAhh, when my Zane Lowe fad really came in to force. It was all I listened to for about 8 months. I did really love this at the time and I thought the album was great too but in hindsight it wasn't really anywhere near as good as I first thought and NIN aren't really my thing, though I still do think highly of this single. This kept Editors 'Munich' and Maximo Park 'Graffiti' off the top spot. (#43)
