#29 Gorillaz 'Feel Good Inc.' ( 01- 01-03-06-06-05-08-13-13-17-22-25-23-25-30-38) (16 weeks) www.youtube.com/watch?v=01C4RPEinM4I loved this when I first heard it, they really are, or were, a great band - so different yet so good. I don't quite like this so much now but they've another to come which I've always loved more! This kept off System of a Down 'BYOB' and Kaiser Chiefs 'Everyday I Love You Less And Less'. (#66)

#30 Magic Numbers 'Forever Lost' ( 01-02-03-04-07-09-12-18-24-27-29-32-36) (13 weeks) www.youtube.com/watch?v=s29S51KSbiQThis might not seem like an obvious choice for number one but I love it! I've always thought this was brilliant and although they weren't the most original or interesting of bands they still sounded great on a summer's evening. I'm sure if they'd have released their comeback 6 months earlier/later they'd have done much better. It's really not the music you want to hear in October!! It kept Coldplay's 'Speed Of Sound' off the top! (#40)

#31 White Stripes 'Blue Orchid' ( 01- 01- 01-06-07-09-10-16-18-18-21-26-31-38) (14 weeks) www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKntY8WkNYQAhh, the Stripes at their very best. I love this song so much, by far my favourite of theirs! I'm not really a fan of them, I usually find them quite rubbish but there seems to be one or two songs on every album that are really good. This kept John Legend 'Ordinary People' and Jack Johnson 'Good People' off the top! (#19)

#32 Stereophonics 'Superman' ( 01- 01- 01-02-05-04-03-04-10-13-18-21-23-29-39) (15 weeks) www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_2_meh-DLoI was still caught up in my rediscovered 'Phonics love when this was released. I still think it's a pretty decent song and one of their few real gems since P&C but 3 weeks at number one? Nah, especially when it kept 3 songs off I now feel are superior; Hard-Fi 'Hard To Beat', Royksopp 'Only This Moment' and Beck 'Girl'. (#85)

That's quite a long while. Not long until 10 years! How come 04 & 05 were only half filled? I had reservations about whether I could continue my chart at University (for one thing, downloading music would have been impossible), and also in the summer of 04 I knew that I'd be spending a lot of time away, so I decided to stop charting... picked it up again after the end of first year

Ah makes sense then. Thought it was a bit odd to just have random gaps.

#33 The Chemical Brothers 'The Boxer' ( 01-03-03-02-03-07-10-15-18-21-27) (11 weeks) www.youtube.com/watch?v=yu99_ulxyFIFeaturing the vocals of The Charlatans frontman Tim Burgess I was never quite sure just how much I liked this song but it took advantage of a fairly slow summer to get a week at the top. I'm certainly glad it did as it's grown on me a fair bit over time. Stronger than a lot of recent efforts, I feel. (#57)

#34 Maximo Park 'Going Missing' ( 01- 01- 01- 01-02-04-10-15-20-22-31-33-32-34-38-39) (16 weeks) www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNxB9IWVd9UA slightly surprising number one as I always felt it was their weakest of their three releases to date but their first to get higher than #2. And not only a number one, but for four weeks too. But as I just said, I felt summer 2005 was easily the weakest part of the year for music. This is the only song which I've bought on TWO physical formats.[/loon fan] It kept Bloc Party's 'Pioneers' and Goldfrapp's 'Oooh La La' off the top. (#59)

#35 Black Rebel Motorcycle Club 'Ain't No Easy Way' ( 01-03-07-12-14-18-28-31-38) (9 weeks) ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/413VKRNQWNL._AA240_.jpgNot the most obvious of number one choices but I do really like them and I adored 'Howl' the album this came from. It was so different to anything else around at the time or since and I think it should've been huge. The shortest running single so far. (#71)

#36 Oasis 'The Importance Of Being Idle' ( 01-03-04-05-08-16-15-17-17-22-21-24-28-32-34) (15 weeks) www.youtube.com/watch?v=sv0_bFpeLI8Describing Oasis' work since 'Morning Glory' as mediocre would probably be too complimentary. But somehow they managed to spring this upon us, only the second song of theirs after 'Songbird' that I've really liked since 1995. It's not as good as they were once capable of but refreshing all the same. It was good to see them hit the top of the charts on merit rather than entirely down to fanbase. John Legend had to settle for number 2 again, this time with 'Number One'. (#60)

#37 Gorillaz 'DARE' ( 01-03-02-04-07-09-12-11-13-13-14-17-19-24-29-32-33-35-38) (19 weeks) www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCy928QJCDEAn instant highlight from 'Demon Days' this was almost certain to hit the top spot if given a release. And it did. A brilliant record, capped wonderfully with the different voices and of course, Shaun Ryder. It kept The Bravery off the top with 'Unconditional'. (#35) I shall hopefully finish 2005 later this evening, starting with what I regard as my best ever number one single, I wonder what it could be....

#38 Arcade Fire 'Rebellion (Lies)' ( 01- 01- 01- 01- 01-02-03-03-04-04-06-07-10-11-13-14-12-16-19-23-25-25-24-26-30-36-38-37-38) (29 weeks) www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNfWC4SgkcsAnd here it is. Of all 100 number ones, this is the one I love the most. They weren't a band that had grabbed my attention previously, their singles had all charted but not very high. But then I heard this, it grabbed me from the first second, it's so unbeliveably good and I could never get bored of it. Only two songs have ever spent longer at the top, it's the longest running single ever, my favourite ever number one, my favourite song of the decade and close to being my favourite song ever. It's certainly in my top 3, anyway! I will never tire of hearing the stunning piece of music. It was released amongst a lot of competition too; Coldplay 'Fix You', Kanye West ft Jamie Foxx 'Gold Digger', Pendulum 'Slam', The Go! Team 'Bottle Rocket' and the Pendulum remix of The Prodigy's 'Voodoo People' - all FANTASTIC pieces of music which I still think are great but it had to be something special too knock it off... (#01 )

#39 Louis XIV 'Finding Out True Love Is Blind' ( 01-02-04-05-06-07-10-13-16-19-23-25-24-28-33-38-37) (17 weeks) www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Wc7yD0kxKIBy far the most obscure song yet. I first heard this when it was released on the 'Illegal Tender' EP in the Spring and it charted at #4 but became the first re-issue to top my chart 6 months later. A fabulous, yet filthy song, from an equally fabulous yet filthy album. They're probably a one trick pony and if they come back I'll be surprised, but I hope they do as I love them! (#21)

#40 Arctic Monkeys 'I Bet You Look Good On The Dance Floor' ( 01- 01-02-02-03-05-08-08-09-10-08-10-14-19-28-24-29-35-39) (19 weeks) www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVYzeUvuc6QI felt incredibly pleased when this went to number one. Not only because I loved it, but because I predicted it. Everyone on all the forums I posted on was going on about Sugababes vs McFly and then this unknown band come and take number one, surely the mids weren't right? I still love this, one of their moments of real quality. (#20)

#41 Maximo Park 'Apply Some Pressure' (02- 01- 01-02-03-02-05-11-15-16-17-21-26-29-29-25-28-33) (18 weeks) www.youtube.com/watch?v=zx00NuMSipcAnd only a fortnight after the first ever re-issue topped my chart the second one did as this climbed from its entry position of 2. It had entered behind the Monkeys but there was no way a song, and band, I loved this much were going to be stuck at number 2 twice! Still my favourite song of theirs now. (#23)

#42 Arcade Fire 'Wake Up' ( 01- 01-03-09-14-19-21-23-27-32-33-32-36-40) (13 weeks) www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEKC5pyOKFUArcade Fire were only off the top 5 weeks before they were there again with 'Wake Up'. Still in love with the album and the band this was always going to go to the top being released so quickly. I now think it's one of the weaker songs on 'Funeral' but it's still excellent. They stopped Stereophonics becoming the first (and would still have been only) act to have three number ones in one year with 'Rewind'. (#58)

#43 The Futureheads 'Area' ( 01-03-04-04-03-04-05-10-14-14-18-18-26-31-37) (15 weeks) www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYNu4EKUmQEReleased as a stop-gap between albums I loved this. It showed so much promise which wasn't quite lived up to. But that would've been hard seeing as it's better than pretty much everything they've done anyway. It's classic Futureheads, who are easily one of my favourite acts of the decade. (#14)

Now, my first number one was 'Good Luck', so it was the first number one to be sung by a female. It took almost TWO YEARS for the next one! #44 Royksopp 'What Else Is There?' ( 01- 01- 01-02-02-04-04-05-07-06-07-09-14-20-20-17-18-17-20-24-26-32-39-35-38) (25 weeks) www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOt15JsLloUwww.youtube.com/watch?v=TmBNkX5iTiU (Thin White Duke Remix) So, Karin Dreijer of The Knife was the second female to provide vocals on a number one. And what a song to do it on. The original version of this is stunning, one of the greatest pieces of music I've ever heard. Then, somehow, Stuard Price AKA Thin White Duke AKA Jacques Lu Cont AKA Les Rythmes Digitales took some of the vocals and turned it into a much more dancey version at 8 and a half minutes long. If I wasn't enough in love with it already I certainly was after hearing that. It's utterly fabulous. It kept Guillemots and The Subways off the top with 'Trains To Brazil' and 'No Goodbyes'. (#03)
