And finally to round this off here are Zobbel's sales estimates 1994 Q3 97600 33500 20700 11200 7700 5400 Interesting that the sales are much lower for the bottom end, but higher for the Top 5/10. The chart during the summer seemed to have a massive divide between the long running songs in the Top 10/20 (with few new entries) and the bottom half which was filled with lots of new entries, most of which dropped out the following week. I remember a funny quote from Dom saying that to hear songs on the chart again you had to go out and and buy them, because they would have disappeared by the following week! It didnt make for enjoyable charts hearing rubbish at the bottom end and the same boring old stuff at the top end which refused to go away, one song immediately srings to mind

There were quite a few others I remember. All-4-One, Let Loose, Reel 2 Reel, Youssou N'Dour/Neneh Cherry, The Grid. There was 3 or 4 weeks when the top 10 was nearly unchanged with WWW, All-4-One, The Grid, Aswad, China Black, Let Loose, Youssou N'Dour/Neneh Cherry.

Yea I came back from holiday and decided to tape the Top 11 1 week, 21st August it was, and all those songs made it boring. A few days later I actually taped over the countdown at the end because I was so sick of what was coming up afterwards!

This was my respective chart: posted to rec.music.misc:
Subject: NM Top 20, 2nd July 1994 ----------
Unfortunately I somehow don't have last week's chart on me again. I do have 2 weeks ago's and hope I won't miss out any of last week's new entries unintentionally. The only ones I can recall were by Let Loose, Aswad, Oasis and Echobelly.
Last week's positions and WIC may be inaccurate
TW LW WIC 1 1 6 Babies (Sisters EP) - Pulp (5th week at #1) 2 2 5 Hold On To Your Friends - Morrissey 3 4 5 To The End - Blur 4 10 2 Crazy For You - Let Loose 5 3 6 Crash Boom Bang - Roxette (#3) 6 7 3 I Swear - All 4 One 7 -- 1 Meet The Flintstones - BC-52's 8 5 6 Swamp Thing - Grid (#5) 9 11 2 Shine - Aswad 10 -- 1 Can You Feel The Love Tonight - Elton John 11 15 2 Shakermaker - Oasis 12 6 11 Dignity - Deacon Blue (#1) 13 8 6 Everybody's Talking - Beautiful South (#6) 14 -- 1 Change - Blind Melon 15 ? 3 Middle Man - Terrorvision 16 ? 2 Can't Imagine The World Without Me - Echobelly 17 9 6 Take It Back - Pink Floyd (#5) 18 ? ? Fingers Of Love - Crowded House (#9) 19 ? ? You Don't Love Me - Dawn Penn (#11) 20 ? ? Patience Of Angels - Eddi Reader (#10)
I'm also not sure if I got the title of the Blind Melon single correct, as I cannot read my handwriting.
As Pulp is reaching the end of its reign (after 2 more weeks it must be replaced, by NM chart rules), a number of possible successors appear.
The BC-52's enter highest at #7. They have charted only 4 times previously as the B52's with Rock Lobster (#1,1986), Love Shack (#1,1990), Roam (#2,1990) and Good Thing (#7,1992), so have experienced life at the top before.
Elton John has only one #1 to his credit. "I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues" hit a maximum 7 weeks on top in 1983, but has had no fewer than 6 singles peak at #2. His last hit, "The One" reached #4 in 1992.
