I remember there being sales data in an article of the Record Mirror in 88. I'm pretty sure it scanned in on one of the SAW sites. Other wise I was going to tackle it by trying to find sales data on individual singers web/fansites. Thank you Stu, what will we do without you!!I'm sure by the time i'm back on Sunday evening you will have a lot for us to work on!Don't know why sales data were so top secret back then?Surely i'm not the only person in the world that wanted to know how much the last Bananarama or Hazell Dean record sold?

I vaguely remember something that was scanned on to one of the websites, but i don't remember seeing sales info and i'm not sure if it was listed from the biggest seller to the smallest?I'm sure some it didn't "look" right to me!That's if it's the same article we are refering to.

The more I think about it, the more the article is coming back to me. I'm sure it placed randomly After The Love Has Gone quite high, and even had sales data down to Steve Walsh's number 74 hit. If it's anywhere it will be at the Cafe 80's. My plan of attack was to try and file sales data for the most obvious biggest hits and then work down the list. I will let you know how successful my mini project is on Sunday!

I will have a look at my history section to see where I copied it from.

Thanks James Oh that was a big help! I've now got sales data for 35 singles, with two of those crossing over into a following year so the data may bit a little out, but can change later. I still have some of the bigger songs sales info missing such as Dead Or Alive, pre 88 Bananarama, Princess, Sinitta and some of the one-off big hits such as Happening All Over Again, I'd Rather Jack, Just Don't Have The Heart etc. I can still corroborate the data from the link if I find other sales figures.

Posted by Smurfie: ? I don't even know what 'taffeta' is.lol. For most of the video she's on stage in a gorgeous orange mini dress (I know it sounds wrong but is stunning actually),with wind machine going insane and lots of strips of unused loo roll flying about. She looks a bit 80s Whitney-esque and that's a good thing. Bizarrely at the end of the video for about oooh 4 seconds she appears wearing 3 pieces of net curtain (what you call 'taffeta' maybe ?) - one on her head, one across her baps and another across her ladygarden.Come to think of it,she wears it on the single sleeve too - maybe that put people off buying it ? It deserved to be a MUCH bigger hit. Ok some really dodgy screen caps that really don't do her justice:

OK, I have done a bit of work on this today, and now got sales data for about 40+ SAW hits. I can't promise the actual accuracy of the information, but I can imagine it thereabouts, and sounds about right for what I have found. I'm still missing quite a few bigger hits to try and compile a proper top 30/40, and bizarrely I am struggling on You Spin Me Around especially after its number of re-releases. And yet I managed to find a sales figure for Sigue Sigue Sputnik "Success" Anyways, I am still looking for sales figures for: Dead Or Alive - You Spin Me Around Bananarama - Venus Sinitta - Cross My Broken Heart Dead Or Alive - Lover Come Back To Me Big Fun - Blame It On The Boogie Big Fun - Can't Shake The Feeling Jason Donovan - Every Day (I Love You More) Kylie Minogue - Never Too LateSonia - Can't Forget You Lonnie Gordon - Happening All Over Again Jason Donovan - Rhythm Of The Rain Jason Donovan - Hang On To Your Love Kylie Minogue - Step Back In TimeKylie Minogue - What Do I Have To DoKylie Minogue - Shocked Cliff Richard - Just Don't Have The HeartDonna Summer - I Don't Wanna Get Hurt Hazell Dean - Who's Leaving Who Hazell Dean - Maybe (We Should Call It A Day) Pepsi & Shirlie - Heartache Phil Fearon - I Can Prove It Probably a couple of these aren't essential as they will fall short of the 40 anyway, though I'm surprised I'm struggling with the Kylie ones. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places?? I will score them out from this post when I find them, but if anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx for your help, Stuart! This stuff get's me excited!AS i said before, i'm thinking of expanding it to a Top 100 or even more as we go along.Let's gather as much info as possible and then i will go and edit the post. The problem wiht yearend lists are though that we sometimes have a problem with songs charting at the end of the one and going into the next?

Yes, I have two like that. I have year end sales for Do They Know It's Christmas and When You Come Back To Me, but not full figures. I can't imagine that there was a dramatic change on DTKIC, but When You Come Back To Me charted a couple of more weeks high up in the Top 20, so the figures may be quite out by about 40k to 50k at least.

Maybe in cases like that we can highlight the fact that certain sales might change at a later stage due to discrepancies?I would've thought that big companies like EMI has a database that provides sales of their records, i could never understand hte secrecy surrounding it.

I've found Venus sales at 200000 and You Spin Me at 500000, but this way too vague.

I don't think Venus could've sold 200 000, it's way too high for a no.8 hit, and it sold less than FLM which sold 182 000.

It does sound a little high for Venus, but its the only figure I have found at all for it so far. I've just realised I should have been looking for Heartache and I Can Prove It as well.
I forgot completely about those, and they would be possibly quite high up the sales list.
I'll update my earlier post.
