From MySpace -The Saturdays sing for Comic Relief We can now exclusively announce that Rochelle, Frankie, Una, Vanessa and Mollie have been asked to record this year’s Comic Relief single. The girls have only been together a year and already they are set to follow in the high-heeled shoes of other girlband royalty, such as Girls Aloud, Sugababes and The Spice Girls. They have recorded the main single for 2009’s campaign and have chose a massive track to cover – Depeche Mode’s electro-pop classic ‘Just Can’t Get Enough’. ‘I am so so excited that we have been asked to do the Comic Relief song,’ says Mollie. ‘It’s such a big compliment and it’s so nice to be helping such a good cause. I’ve always dreamt of doing something like this from being a little girl! I remember watching the Spice Girls’ song ‘Who Do You Think You Are’ and now it’s us! I cannot wait!’ Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day is on Friday 13th March and the theme this year is ‘Do Something Funny for Money’. By raising money for Red Nose Day, people can help to change lives forever. That’s because Comic Relief spends all the money raised to give extremely vulnerable, poor and disadvantaged people in the UK and Africa a helping hand to turn their lives around. The single will be released 2nd March with Comic Relief itself taking place on 13th March.

Imo 'Chasing Lights' would have been a nicer choice for Comic Relief. But, this may get them their first #1 along with raising money for a great cause.

I quite like The Saturdays too - I don't worship Depeche Mode or anything, so this cover probably won't offend me, but it is a shame that it'll probably eclipse the sales of their original songs! I wonder if Peter Kay will be doing another Comic Relief single as well? Maybe Geraldine will be back?

I like both the Saturdays and Depeche Mode - I'm quite happy to give this the benefit of the doubt - it can't be any worse than GA vs Sugababes Comic Relief single.

Second Comic relief single will be out, from the stars of Gavin and Stacey...
So first #1 for saturdays, maybe not.

Then Peter Kay will do a video for something by Smokie or the Maisonettes and spend two months at number one instead. Depeche Mode's first number one single? Hm.

Why does everyone think The Saturdays version gonna sound awful?. Girls Aloud vs Sugababes wasn't that bad, i remember hearing the orginal before i heard the girls sing it and i was gutted because of it being so awful but the girls made the song okay.

You are joking, I hope. I've heard better harmonies in an abattoir.

I wonder if Peter Kay will be doing another Comic Relief single as well? Maybe Geraldine will be back? Rob Brydon is doing an unofficial Comic Relief song this year. Surprised that a group that haven't been around for that long have been chosen. I remember them being interviewed on the Chart Show (maybe?) around Christmas saying that they had massive news that they couldn't reveal yet. This must have been it.
