This was the début album from the Norwegian DJ duo; released 8th October 2001. Not heard of back then, but secretly known of now, from appearances on TV adverts.
The album starts off with So Easy, originally released in 1999 yet re-released in 2002 from the appearance of the album. It’s quite a fast paced tune for the album and sets it up well.
Eple follows, most noted for its use by Apple for a TV advert. It is a lively and catchy track. For being classed as a down tempo genre, this proves otherwise.
Sparks follows with catchy lyrics this time. In Space is appropriately titled as it has a spaced out feel to it: very much a chill out track.
Poor Leno follows, maybe the most well known track off this album, with a fantastic video to boot. A Higher Place adds an extra dimension to the album with added synthetics and beats.
The last track I will mention is “Royksopp’s Night Out”, maybe the finest one on the album, which I am surprised never made it as a released single although at 7 and half minutes, maybe seen as slightly too long.
This is one wonderful classic album which can perform two roles. At higher volumes it is a get up and go dance album but at lower volumes a complete chill out album just to put all stresses into yonder.
For this reason I award Melody A.M. a superb…:
9/10
