Scotland's biggest music festival, T in the Park has announced the first 3 acts on its 2009 line-up: Kings Of Leon, Snow Patrol and Katy Perry. Now, I'm a Snow Patrol fan, and I don't mind the other 2 at all... but IMO this is an absolutely pathetic start to what is normally one of the best UK festivals! This is why.
KINGS OF LEON - Headlining the Main Stage on Friday. This will be the 3rd year in a row they've played T, and they've moved 1 slot up the bill every year. OK, they're hot property right now, but show some imagination please!!
SNOW PATROL - Headlining the Main Stage on Sunday. That's the exact same slot they had in 2007, and many people said they didn't deserve to close the festival, especially as they were on after the Scissor Sisters (I like both acts incidentally, but I thought SS should have headlined). Snow Patrol's latest album has not been that well received - so if they seen as a weak headliner 2 years ago, what does that say for now???
KATY PERRY - Headlining the Radio 1/NME Stage on Saturday. WTF??? Last year this stage's headliners were Chemical Brothers, Kaiser Chiefs and The Prodigy. Do I really need to say any more?
I think this is a disgrace, and a massive insult to all those who bought early bird tickets last summer, simply because they always expect a quality line-up from T. If I had a ticket I'd be very tempted to flog it based on that first announcement!!!!

That is pretty dire. Snow Patrol are just not a 'headline' act, in my opinion. Always should be 2nd down the list, I feel. Kings of Leon are in danger of overexposure....they've been all over the festivals for the last few years. That said - they have picked up a lot of new fans that still haven't seen them live, so should go down well as a headline act.
Katy Perry? I think she's worthy of playing - but not headlining the Radio 1 stage...a bit lower down the list, I think! In that spot - I imagine hardly anyone will show up, which will be embarassing.

If anyone wants a ticket and feels like they don't want to go, I'll happily take it off you with those announcements. KOL are ace, SP are ace, Katy Perry, well whose on main stage on Saturday? I hear Bloc Party. Well I do for Oxygen, which is normally the 2 fests they swap over with. Like Reading/Leeds. But T do that silly thing of if you play T you arent allowed to play in Scotland for 6 months.

Yeah, it doesn't look great. Has the rest of the line-up been announced?

But T do that silly thing of if you play T you arent allowed to play in Scotland for 6 months. Do they? I've never heard that before!!! Seems a bit mean. Saturday main headliner isn't announced yet - a lot of people seem to think it's going to be The Killers, who I absolutely love, but as they too headlined in 2007 it would again show a total lack of imagination. Blur and Metallica have also been suggested as sensible possibilities. Even with a line-up that bad, I can't see Bloc Party headlining the main stage; I'd expect them either 2nd from top, or on the NME stage. But who knows! The way this is going, the other 2 NME headliners could be The Saturdays and Alphabeat! Oh and I'm pleased that someone else agrees with me about Snow Patrol - top band, I'm even seeing them on their tour next month, but I'm not convinced that they're a great festival headliner. Its a shame really, because in a lesser position they wouldn't get half the stick that they're getting right now!

Yeah, it doesn't look great. Has the rest of the line-up been announced? Just those 3 so far. Bloc Party and The Script are rumoured to be playing though. Which makes all the difference!

Yep, T say if you play then you can't play in Scotland areans for some time before or after. Been around for a few years.
SP are ace, shame I couldn't buy tickets for the nottingham gig. They are better gigs then fests tho.
I really hope Blur don't seeing them 3rd july. I have heard the rumours tho.

Nah, they'll probably be headlining one of the smaller stages! Seriously though - Glasvegas will blatantly get a far better slot than they deserve, just for being Scottish. Same goes for The View. Hopefully Travis will also play, it'd be good IMO if they headlined a tent as they have plenty of great material, but aren't that popular anymore.

I've never been to T in the Park before and I would pretty happy with that line-up with it being my first time. Maybe that will be the similar responce to other people who havent been either!!

Fair comment. I still think its an insult to the loyal fans who have supported the festival for years, and who keep going back every year... they've seen it all before!

You can't have new artists every year, just not enough to go around.
They try to have crowd pullers. And new fest goers are more crowd pullers for them.

GOod acts...but not as headliners, you wanna see a coldplay, kol, foos, rhcp's, kanye, madonna, kylie (if they're changing direction a lot), michael jackson, u2, muse, radiohead etc...all would suit me fine.l actually as woudl the reformed blur,...x but there really is a genuine danger that we'll see: JLS headlining the Radio 1 stage with Geraldine McQueen popping on just before... ahhhh 5am rants arent as great in words as they sound in your headdddd...
