From DS -
Leon Jackson has been officially dropped by his record label Sony, it has emerged.
The former X Factor winner was released by the company yesterday despite his debut album Right Now selling 130,000 copies, The Sun reports.
Jackson said: "I had a great year and learned so much recording and releasing my album. Every artist knows these things can go either way.
"I'm really looking forward to my tour and doing more writing."
Simon Cowell reportedly believed that Rhydian Roberts should have beaten Jackson in last year's final.
A source close to the judge said: "[Cowell] thought the most talented person should have won.
"That was never Leon and what has happened since has proved him right. Leon's a good lad, but he's definitely not set the world alight."
Bless, not really shocking though.

HA HA!! They completely mis-handled his career though (probably on purpose). The 'waiting 10 months' approach that worked for Leona was never going to work for him. Don't Call This Love was a rubbish second single and didn't give him a chance in his comfort zone that Creative would have. The third Scottish reality TV show winner that totally sunk without a trace...

Not the largest surprise in the world. You share my thought, to be honest, I'm surprised it wasn't sooner. There just never appeared to be a Leon "buzz" as there was/is with a certain other two.

They make you, and they break you, it's what this show is all about, and I hate it, I dont like the chap or his music, but the way they treat you if you're not the chosen one, it's horrible.

So let him go out and write his own songs or find his own songwriters.
Why should anyone have to be responsible for making a career for him?
The deal is a one-year recording contract. His year is up. He's on his own now.

Such a shame as the album has very good songs. Can't understand why Creative/ Stargazing weren't pushed harder.
But yes, he now has to try and build on the 1 year contract on his own merit with other writers etc.

I can't say I'm to shock or bothered by this. It was only a matter of time.

I'm not surprised at all but I feel sorry for him as he has always seemed a lovely guy. I think his music would've done far better without the stigma of X Factor around it. I also much prefer 'Creative' to his first single.

His music would have had a market of his mum had it not been for the "stigma" of X Factor.

Don't get me started on this! I'm so pi**ed with his label! They forced him down the most predictable/copycat route they could have, basically a Michael Buble rip-off where they should have merketed him as more of an acoustic artist ala James Morrison, Paolo Nutini. For what he was given, he made a very solid album, and if people had the confidence enough to buy it, I don't think they'd have been dissappointed. How can they have exected people to be confident when they give him one of the worst videos I've ever seen, and a really bland first single... They only try releasing one single and they write the album off. Even the best of artists have had flop first albums (Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson) and what if they'd ditched them straight away? I'm not saying Leon Jackson could have been the next Amy Winehouse, god no! But they ruin his first chance, and then refuse to give him a second chance. Such a shame

i actually feel quite sorry for him. I like his voice and sound i just think he had no push behind him or promotion. Creative was a great tune!

I really resented the 'Vote for him because he's a Scot' angle that the X Factor presenters were pushing for during the final. It gave the impression that he only got it because of patrioism when the clearly more talented Rhydian should have won. That said I quite liked his cover of 'When You Believe' and it's sad that he got dropped in that way.. but he obviously didn't have the X Factor. But it's hardly like a great loss to the music industry compared to say if Radiohead or Arcade Fire were dropped.

But if Radiohead or Arcade Fire or anyone in that status were dropped they would set up their own record label like other bands have done.
Leon does not have that resourse, financially or reputationally to do the same.

Such a shame Amy's first album didn't flop really, did it? It still did 250-300K before 'Back To Black' was released, I think. Anyway - let's not pretend Leon didn't get much support. He had an album pretty much made for him, and launched the single in front of ten million people on a Saturday night. The public just weren't interested.
