The new single from Michael Jackson, entitled This Is It, will be released on October 12th, followed by a 2-disc album of the same name on October 27th. The album release will coincide with the worldwide premiere of the film documenting the King of Pop's preparation for his comeback show - both the film and the show are also called This Is It.
“This song only defines, once again, what the world already knows - that Michael is one of God's greatest gifts,“ said John McClain, co-producer of the album and co-executor of his estate.
The firsc disc will feature the original album masters of Michael's greatest hits arranged in the same order as they appear in the film, ending with two versions of the never-released This Is It. And, of course, the new single features backing vocals by the Jackson brothers.
Disc two offers unreleased versions of his classic tracks, including a spoken word poem from Michael entitled Planet Earth. It also includes a 36-page commemorative booklet with exclusive pictures of his last rehearsal.
Obviously thst's the US album release dates but I assume the UK will get it on October 26th

Might put the album on my list for Santa though.

Sony Music’s fourth quarter schedule has been given a spectacular boost with the announcement of a new Michael Jackson album, including a brand new song.
The two-disc album, entitled This Is It, ties in with the forthcoming film of the same name, released by Sony Pictures on October 28.
The album, featuring “the music that inspired” the film, is released internationally on October 26 to coincide. A new single, also entitled This Is It, will be released on October 12.
Disc one of the album will feature original versions of some of Jackson’s biggest hits, arranged in the same sequence as they appear in the film. It ends with two versions of This Is It, which features backing vocals by Michael’s brothers, The Jacksons.
Disc two features previously unreleased versions of some of the artist’s hits, as well as a previously-unheard spoken word poem, Planet Earth.
The album includes a 36-page, commemorative booklet featuring photos of Jackson from his last rehearsal.

What a cheeky way to market an album, based around one new song! I guess they're saving the other stuff he recorded for a future album proper?

I hope they let him lie, and don't consistently try to rehash his material like 2 Pac
Still, i'm quite excited about hearing this

Oh this is gonna make the Tupac situaiton look like a few unautorised leaks. Jackson will be getting 'new' re-released,' 're-mixed,' 'unmixed,' and re-issued for YEARS. Singstar will be out before Spring (Before Xmas if they can get the licencing done), and there'll be Wii games, ringtones, doorbell chimes, you name it.

Will prob get both, im guessing the chances of getting the single on CD are remote though (assuming it's being physically released?) given that i don't know anywhere locally that sells CD singles anymore... HMV may do but i haven't been able to find them (in either of the 2 nearest) for ages to the point that i don't bother looking now!

OK, for the pedants amongst us, I should have said, "I can see the downloaded title track doing well in the singles chart".
