Saw that on Sky News. Scary accident...
Is it a money thing for Brands Hatch or are they just in denial?

It's amazing how strong motor racing cars are these days. Horrific accidents at Le Mans, the Valencia GP and now Brands Hatch, (and NASCAR most weeks), with drivers walking away almost unscathed.
But anything getting over the fence, and in the direction of spectators and marshalls remains lethal. I really fear another huge freak accident, with dozens of spectators injured or killed, as a result of a vehicle being launched over the catch fencing.

BH is owned by Palmer is it not, same as Snetterton and Oulton Park. Money is a little at a stretch I believe for all circuits, but I think cos BH has been a racing circuit so long people give it a blind eye. IMO i'd like to see it gone, it isn't the most exciting circuit.

GP3 times today was just practice. Qualifying is tomorrow.
It will be fascinating to see how Grosjean gets on at DAMS this weekend. Grosjean was given such a raw deal last year being dropped after not performing well in F1 in a team that was badly struggling. I read somewhere that his relative qualifying times against Alonso last year were better than Petrov's against Kubica.
His experience in junior formulae suggest that he is worthy of a second chance in F1, not least his performances in Auto GP this year when he has been right on the pace and is currently 2nd in the chamiponship despite contesting only half the season. DAMS have struggled in GP2 this year, and their decision to drop d'Ambrosio for this race is unfair, because d'Ambrosio was doing a better job than Tung at least. Given how Kobayashi struggled in the same team last year and how he has blossomed in F1 I think the fault is the team and not the drivers. And that is exactly why Grosjean has been brought in. He was running at the sharp end in practice and qualifying today (until the last few minutes where he got shuffled down to 13th). He will be one to watch in the race tomorrow.

Maldonado sets a record for most consecutive feature race wins, now 4 in a row. He has the title in the bag now.
I can see him and Perez making F1 next year now. Possibly Ferrari will place Bianchi with Sauber but maybe not until 2012.

The German Grand Prix wasn't the only race decided off track yesterday. Scott Dixon won the Indycar race in Edmonton after Helio Castroneves was given a drive-through penalty for blocking with 2 laps to go. Castroneves didn't take the penalty and was given a 20-second penalty after the race, dropping him to 10th. Castroneves had to be restrained by mechanics after arriving back at the pits and tried to confront the officials...
Here's a video:

Castro didn't block, those officials need examining, cos they've never seen racing before obviously. He didn't even squeeze him up against the barrier like you'd expect.

Dean Smith has a 1-place penalty for taking the chequered flag twice in practice, Ivan Lukashevich will be docked three places for ignoring yellow flags in practice, while Doru Sechelariu and Tobias Hegewald will each lose 10 places for causing accidents in the previous round at Hockenheim. However, I'm not sure on the exact final order of the grid after these have been applied.

Strange incident in the GP2 race yesterday:
It's very rare you see two cars colliding head-on like that.
Tung and Bianchi were hospitalised after the crash. It looks like Tung will be back for Spa, but Bianchi may not be back for the rest of the season. Shame for Jules because he was really making progress in the last few rounds.
Not sure who ART will get to replace him - Romain Grosjean would be a good bet. Javier Villa isn't doing much either and has GP2 experience. They may try and promote from within the ART family - maybe Bottas or Sims from F3 Euroseries or Guiterrez from GP3.

Another big crash this weekend, once again in Brands Hatch. This was in Superleague and former Formula Master champion Chris van der Drift came off worst in this:
He has a broken ankle, injured shoulder and hand, but other than that he's fine. I doubt he will be racing any more this year.
