Let me introduce to you the biggest dance track for the next couple of months. Yes, she's back! Go GaGa!

It will be massive because it's Gaga, but the production/lyrics/hook are very average.

I do prefer the original Express Yourself Which ripped off the Staple Singers 1972 US#12 hit single "Respect Yourself" so much that "her Madgesty" and cowriter/producer Stephen Bray had to give 25% royalties & publishing to the former song songwriters Luther Ingram & Mack Rice. Very little is original in pop music nowadays. It's how you recycle it that counts.

I find it very disappointing, on the same level as when the BEPs came back with the Dirty Dancing song... but at least the BEPs didn't pretend to be re-inventing music

^^^ I agree. All this genre-redefining, anthem for the generation, song of the decade crap she spewed out was so unfounded.

that's the think. exactly. they created the biggest buzz ever but they forgot to put a proper song in there. Madonna's Express Yourself might have not been that original, but at least she didn't sell it as a generation anthem, it was just an album track...

Totally agree with Borneo. This is so very very average. I heard it first listen and was underwhelmed. Yes there are some catchy parts, but it is nothing groundbreaking, not inventive and it certainly does not have the killer hooks that Bad Romance or even Telephone had. It is at best the kind of track you find stuck somewhere around track eight on an album. The production is dubious and also, I wouldn't call it a dance release.

I didn't like Bad Romance too at first... that's all I'm going to say for now...

^ it's the opposite for me, I loved Bad Romance initially, but now I really hate it. I was duped into buying TFM.
And this one sounds almost atrocious, average at best.

I've always been neutral to Gaga, think the original version of The Fame was bad, 3 great songs (the 1st three singles), but the rest totally average fillers... but then she did surprised me with The Fame Monster as she came up with a bunch of great songs in a matter of months, I really think Bad Romance and Telephone are really great pop songs... but this is not, probably the most disappointing come back ever, especially if you consider the buzz (about it being a new anthem) and what has been delivered... which is a bad copy of a track that wwas never that amazing in the first place... minus 2178238923901 points to Gaga

There are rumours that Warner Bro's are re-releasing Madonna's Express Yourself, with a video montage from her recent tours. If so... that's a pretty damning statement against GaGa.
Been listening to it, hoping it would grow on me, and it's stayed the same. A disappointing epitaph to a pretty much impeccable string of singles. It's worse than all the songs on The Fame Monster disc, but isn't an atrocious song. I suppose what I'm still struggling with is the fact that every other artist says that "this song will be the best of MY career", and GaGa seems to be repeatedly saying that her song is the best.

By other artists standards it is amazing song but by her standards it is not a patch on Bad Romance, Telephone, Poker Face and Alejandro
Great song when compared to other artists but weak by GaGa standards

There's a comment on You tube which i thought was pretty accurate. It basically said that yea it rips off madonna but then many people have in the past....the thing with Gaga is that this is being lauded as some generational anthem by her fans and basically the song is just a rehash of Express Yourself- she isn't that original certainly not in her output- she puts her energies into create a unique style and image which i would agree are unique.
It must be a shame for any performer who is a female solo artist and does pop music (Kylie, Britney, Gaga etc) but essentially Madonna did it first. Yes i know there were female solo singers before her and I know she borrowed/ was influenced by others before her, but by sheer co-incidence she emerged at the right time to co-incide with the Video Age and MTV so she had a medium open to her that female singers didn't before- So more through timing than anything else she was the first real "Visual artist" female wise anyway.
Thusly all females who operate in the same genre will be compaired

When referring to the song being a 'generational anthem' is she not referring more to the content of the lyrics rather than the melody being massively original, and the fact that such an overtly gay song lyrically would not have had such worldwide success in the past? Surely she is the only perfomer at the moment with such popularity that she could release this song and it still be accepted in those parts of the world that are less tolerant of homosexuality?

Oh...and yes I think it is very much a dance release! Otherwise how do you define a dance release? Does it have to be "cool"?

Well you can read the song in several ways and not necessarily about being gay. It's about acceptance and being proud of what you are...Thats not a particularly "new" topic but if we stick to the pretext that it is about being gay then is it any less successful than Rod Stewart's "The Killing of Georgie"? Or certainly any less successful than "Vogue" which took a dance routine from teh gay subculture and took it around the world? Gaga has been more successful more instantly if you like but then that's the digital age for you
