Direct, intentional references
Paul Young - Now I Know What Made Otis Blue (Otis Redding) Kiss AMC - A Bit of U2 (although they had to change it to "A Bit Of..." one of the times it was released for legal reasons) ABC - When Smokey Sings (Smokey Robinson) The Cult - Edie (Ciao Baby) (Edie Sedgwick) Duck Soup - Barbra Streisand
A self-referential one Goodbye Mr Mackenzie - Goodbye Mr Mackenzie
Intentional post-factum references (ie where artists have named themselves after a song) The Kinks - Johnny Thunder (a pre-emptive one, that) Primal Scream - Velocity Girl (ditto) The Smiths - Shakespeare's Sister (albeit with a spelling error in the group's name) Elvis Presley - His Latest Flame (how great were they? for a while in 1989 or so they burned so bright...has anyone else even heard of them I wonder?)
Coincidental references Helen Baylor - Oasis (such a gorgeous track, much better than anything the group of that name every did) Motley Crue - Primal Scream U2 - Even Better Than The Real Thing Amy Grant- Shadows The Wedding Present - Dare All About Eve - Scarlet Prodigy - Breathe Public Enemy - 911 Is A Joke
While the (quite fantastic) Lilac Time take there name from a Nick Drake lyric (in "River Man") - but not in the title...

I think it's a bit generous to count Michela Strachan as a musician. I did hear her version of 'HAPPY Radio' once.
Does 'Clint Eastwood' by Gorillaz count? Also 'The Flaming Lips' by Spearmint. And am I really the first to mention 'Buddy Holly' by Weezer?

I think it's a bit generous to count Michela Strachan as a musician. I did hear her version of 'HAPPY Radio' once. That was a top 70 smash ! And her follow up single 'Take Good Care of My Heart' remains one of my songs ever (yet another top 70 smash),and she wrote the song 'Time Flies',which I rather like too. The public were robbed of a Michaela album, robbed I tell thee !

Since Camera Obscura have cropped up, of course they also did 'Lloyd I'm Ready To Be Heartbroken'. And there's 'The Rubettes' by The Auteurs, which of course samples 'Sugar Baby Love'.

Abbaesque wasn't a song, though...
Here's one of the many HMHB reference songs:

Rick Springfield - Bruce (That song is about a female fan of his mistaking him for Bruce Springsteen because of their similar names).
Mike Tramp - Hymn To Ronnie (A tribute song to Ronnie James Dio).
