That's an absolutely ridiculous statement to make considering how much resemblance Alejandro has to previous Madonna videos. Everyone slated GaGa when that video came out because of it's similarities to Madonna and Janet Jackson videos. I didn't say Lady GaGa copies Madonna or Janet or whoever i was just saying the men in heels and the whips and chains ect... reminded me of Alejandro. Well Lady GaGa was hardly the first to invent either of those 'concepts'. If this video has ripped off anything it's the original Kazaky videos, and you can't really call that a rip-off since Kazaky are in the video.

I gave it a listen yesterday. The only ones I am liking at the moment are: Give Me All Your Luv, Masterpiece, Love Spent.
The production is good, but it is just a bit "will this do?".

I just listened to the album and I really don't get the hype or reviews. It's poor. I know some may jump on me for this comparison but Nicola Roberts' album, for example, is miles better (only one real filler and one bad song on there IMO) and I'm sad to see that MDNA will outsell it within a matter of weeks, if not one week, on name alone. That said, I did rather enjoy Some Girls, Beautiful Killer and I Don't Give A, and Masterpiece is beautiful too - reminds me of Frozen. However, it's let down by terrible songs such as Superstar and the trashy 'I F***ed Up', there was no need for that.
Yes, I admit I'm no massive Madonna fan, but obviously the days of 'Sorry', 'Into the Groove' and 'Like a Prayer' are long gone.

MADONNA’S MATERIAL GAINS
New MDNA Album Debuts on Top, Richie, Shinedown Debut
March 28, 2012
She’s no longer “Like a Virgin,†or even the Material Girl, for that matter, but Madonna is still a pop diva superstar.
Madge’s Interscope debut, MDNA, her 12th studio album and first under a recently inked deal with Live Nation, is her first new collection in four years, since 2008’s Hard Candy. It’s a lock for #1 on next week’s HITS Album sales chart, with between 325-350k, beating that album’s 280k opening.
Those figures are based on one-day sales figures which our crack retail staff arrived at by throwing darts at a board. Take that, Soundscan!
Lionel Richie’s Mercury Nashville bow, Tuskegee, a collection of his greatest hits performed with country stars such as Blake Shelton, Jason Aldean, Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts, Tim McGraw, Shania Twain, Willie Nelson and Jimmy Buffett, is the big surprise, with a robust first-week estimate in the 140-160k range. The album has even hit the #1 slot at iTunes over Madonna.
Veteran Atlantic Florida rockers Shinedown’s fourth studio album, Amaryllis, their first since 2008’s The Sound of Madness, is on track for first-week sales of 80-90k, easily topping that album’s 50k.
Hopeless’ The Used release Vulnerable, the Orem, UT, thrash-rockers’ fifth studio album and first since leaving their longtime label Warner Bros./Reprise, which looks to be in the 20-25k range.
Interscope’s veteran Oklahoma post-punks All-American Rejects’ fourth album, Kids in the Street, is slated to do between 17-20k, a striking comedown from their last, 2008’s When the World Comes Down, which did 112k its first week..
Prog-rocking Texas band The Mars Volta’s Noctourniquet, their sixth full-length album, and second from Warner Bros., is also in the 17-20k range.
Mercury/IDJ Canadian rock group My Darkest Days’ sophomore album, Sick and Twisted Affair, fueled by the hit single, “Porn Star Dancing,†should do between 12-15k
Album sales were down 3% vs. last week, down 16% vs. same week last year and up 1% year to date.
Track sales were up 2% vs. last week, up 3% vs. same week last year and up 6% year to date.
TEA sales were down 2% vs. last week, down 11% vs. same week last year and up 2% year to date.

Mild Controversy over Madonna's US #1 album: www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/industry/record-labels/editor-s-note-what-role-did-bundling-and-1006670752.storyWith circa 185,000 of Madonna's 359,000 first week sales came through a bundle option, in which fans who purchased tickets for her upcoming tour received a code that could be redeemed for either a physical CD or a digital download of the album. Hence if they were excluded, then Lionel Richie 199K would have scored the #1 album spot instead. Of course a large proportion of those 185K would have otherwise bought the album first week anyway, just that they took advantage of Live Nation's/Interscope 360 degree deal. So if the deal did not exist then Madonna would surely have comfortably scored the USA#1 album spot with sales in excess of 250K.

This is the same principal as a 25c album imo, and the rule for that states that an album selling under a certain price (or free) would have those sales discounted in the first 4 weeks of an albums chart run. They probably should have been discounted here too.

no no but the Madonna thing it's not like that... it's not that when buying the concert ticket you were giving the album for free... they had a special offer (bundle) for the ticket and the album together, a special price... but those people still paid for the album

They've basically just found a loophole in the rules and taken advantage if it.

no no but the Madonna thing it's not like that... it's not that when buying the concert ticket you were giving the album for free... they had a special offer (bundle) for the ticket and the album together, a special price... but those people still paid for the album Because the price of the album was included in the online Madonna concert ticket + new album bundle via Ticketmaster. However, if you wanted a ticket for one of her US concerts and did not want the album, then tough, because you've already paid for it as Ticketmaster did not offer an opt out option (of just buying the ticket for a lower amount), you had to get the bundle or use an alternative ticket agency. Of course for the sale to count you had to redeem the voucher either as a physical edition or download. It is just that a number of people who bought tickets online via Ticketmaster for Madonna's forthcoming tour have officially paid for a product (MDNA album) which they have not redeemed either as a physical edition or download. So really it is no different than (as an example) doing a Sky or Virgin TV/telephone/internet bundle and paying for a combined inclusive service, even though you are not going to use the telephone, because you use your mobile with another service provider for incoming/outgoing messages.

Billboard www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/industry/record-labels/editor-s-note-what-role-did-bundling-and-1006670752.storyEditor's Note: What Role Did Bundling and Exclusives Play in Madonna and Justin Bieber's Big Debuts? ?? 04, 2012 By Bill Werde (@bwerde), New York Madonna has the no. 1 album on this week's Billboard 200. She sold 359,000 copies of MDNA compared to Lionel Richie's Tuskegee, which opens with a really impressive 199k first week. But many of Madonna's sales came through a bundle option, in which fans who purchased tickets for her upcoming tour received a code that could be redeemed for either a physical CD or a digital download of the album. Madonna's 'MDNA' Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard 200, Lionel Richie Bows at No. 2 Justin Bieber's new single "Boyfriend" debuts at no. 2 on the Hot 100. Fun.'s "We Are Young" continues its incredible run atop the greatest songs chart. No doubt, true Beliebers will be sad to note that "Boyfriend"'s Hot 100 score did not include meaningful points from plays on streaming services, including on-demand subscription companies a la Spotify, as Team Bieber decided to withhold the song from such services for much of its first charting week. The "Boyfriend" download was also exclusive to iTunes, restricting the buying option for those that do not frequent the Apple retail store. Justin Bieber's 'Boyfriend' Debuts at No. 2 on Hot 100, Sells 521K Digitally There are plenty of people crying foul on both fronts. Those people should probably calm down. Both examples offer a glimpse into the complicated, largely experimental and ever-changing world of marketing, distributing and monetizing new releases in today's marketplace. Of Madonna's 359,000 sold, trusted sources tell Billboard that somewhere in the area of 185,000 came from the bundle/redemption code. Sacre bleu, you say, doing math: 359 - 180 = 179. Mr. Richie's 199,000 is the true king-making total this week! But that's completely ridiculous. With all respect deserved and paid to the beloved songs of Mr. Richie, think about two important points. One: Madonna fans who redeemed that code are not receiving the album for free. The price of Madonna's album was bundled into the ticket purchase. I can understand why there's confusion about this. Even the CEO of Ticketmaster tweeted that fans buying tickets got "a free copy of MDNA." (The March 30 tweet has since been taken down). Such is the less-than-fully-transparent nature of bundling. But let's take a hypothetical for a second: the cost of MDNA wasn't bundled into the ticket price, or that Billboard doesn't count those sales. All 185,000 fans who used the Madonna redemption code were the first in line to buy tickets to her tour. These are her top fans, each of whom were eager to shell out anywhere from $50 to more than $350 for a seat. If no bundle existed, do you really think a large portion of these fans wouldn't have purchased the album? We'll never know for certain, of course. But I think it's a more than safe bet that Madonna has the no. 1 album in the U.S. under any circumstance - joining her deserved no. 1 debuts in at least 17 other countries, according to manager Guy Oseary's tweets. For context, here are her recent albums' first-week sales, per Nielsen SoundScan: 2008 - Hard Candy - 280K 2005 - Confessions on a Dance Floor - 350K 2003 - American Life - 240K 2000 - Music - 420K 1998 - Ray of Light - 371K So you can see, given that MDNA has a nice buzz and single going, it's pretty much beyond reason to think that suddenly this album would sell substantially less than any recent one Madonna has released. That said, let's wait and see what the drop-off is next week on sales of MDNA. Second weeks tend to follow a fairly predictable curve. And while it's far from a perfect science, it's one of the best bullsh-- detectors out there for an inflated first week. Billboard's head of charts Silvio Pietroluongo says that an iconic pop star's album will generally drop anywhere from 65 to 80 percent second week. If MDNA drops a lot more than that, it'll be an indication of the degree of first week inflation caused by bundling. The Bieber issue is probably more complex. The Hot 100 chart is driven largely by radio play and digital sales, with lesser slices of streaming and on-demand music rolled in. Would Bieber have had a no. 1 had his team consented to streaming the song on services such as Rhapsody and Spotify? Justin Bieber's 'Boyfriend' Breaks First-Week Airplay Record on Billboard Mainstream Top 40 Chart One way of looking at this is to simply strip away streaming services from the entire Hot 100. In that scenario, yes, "Boyfriend" is the no. 1 song based on radio play and digital sales. But at this point in the evolution of the music fan experience, I'd just as soon strip away radio or digital sales as streaming songs. Spotify et al are a massive and important slice of the music consumption pie. So then the next question would be, what would have happened if Team Bieber had streamed the song? That's impossible to know, of course. Would fans have streamed for free instead of buying the single? It's the question that every marketing and promotion and product-manager executive at every label turns around in their heads every day. It's worth noting that key digital executives at most major labels- including Bieber's own Universal Music Group-now have gone on record as saying that Spotify doesn't cannibalize sales. So really, if that's the case, then why wasn't Bieber's "Boyfriend" streaming? I suppose the notion that Spotify doesn't cannibalize sales is not mutually exclusive to the notion that it might cannibalize sales in the short, immediate term. I can't think of another reason why the song wouldn't be streaming on Spotify. Unless, of course, iTunes "incentivized" Team Bieber and/or UMG to make sure that the song was only available digitally on iTunes. But of course, that would probably never happen. I genuinely think this is the best album she has ever made, there really isn't a bad track on it. 'Beautiful killer' is up there with the very best songs she has ever recorded, and songs like 'I fu**ed up', 'Turn up the radio', 'Best friend', 'I don't give a' and 'Superstar' are pure genius. 2 and a half weeks in and some of the songs are on their 33rd play on my itunes.
