From Music Week
A choir of military wives and girlfriend is now favourite to top the Christmas singles chart according to Ladbrokes, edging out the X Factor hopefuls.
The Military Wives Choir, who starred on BBC series The Choir, have recorded a single, Wherever You Are, for charity. Decca will release the song on December 19 and Ladbrokes has it at 13/8 to debut at the top of the Christmas chart.
Behind them are X Factor favourites Marcus Collins and Little Mix, both at 9/2, and Nirvana at 6/1, thanks to an internet campaign to get the band’s classic Smells Like Teen Spirit to the top of the Christmas chart, much like Rage Against The Machine’s Killing In the Name two years ago.
Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said, "We usually go into December with The X Factor dominating Christmas Number One betting. It's all change now and we expect the Military Wives Choir to soon be odds-on."
In the betting for the Christmas album number one, Michael Bublé’s Christmas album, currently at three in the charts, is closing in on posthumous Amy Winehouse album, Lioness: Hidden Treasures.
Bublé is at 6/4, just behind Winehouse at 5/4. Behind them are albums from Rihanna, Susan Boyle and JLS.
"Michael Bublé is picking up the pace in the bid to get the number one album and it looks like he'll be the favourite throughout December,” said Donohue.
It should be noted that they are quoting odds for individual contestants rather than "the X Factor winner". Therefore, the odds are bound to be longer as they have to win the competition first.

just read this at nme.com, although it comes from the super-reliable The Sun... anyone knows more about it? 'X-Factor' winner set to cover Damien Rice's 'Cannonball'? www.nme.com/news/damien-rice/60666X-Factor' winner set to cover Damien Rice's 'Cannonball'? Source says all four remaining contestants have recorded a version of the big-selling ballad More Damien Rice news, reviews, videos and tour dates Buy Damien Rice music from AmazonDamien Rice news RSS Feed Photo: Andy WillsherThe X-Factor winner is set to release a cover of Damien Rice's 'Cannonball' as their debut single, according to tabloid reports this morning (November 29). The competition ends on December 11, with whoever is named the winner releasing their debut single that same night. The track will need to secure two weeks at Number One to become the Christmas chart topper as the Christmas Number One will be announced on December 25 itself this year. According to The Sun, all four remaining contestants in the competition have recorded a version of 'Cannonball', which one of three tracks being considered for release. A source told the paper: "It's one of three songs being considered for release. The acts are still recording the different options but Cannonball has a good shot. After reworking Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah' for Alexandra Burke then Biffy's track 'Many Of Horror' for Matt last year, it's the next step. It would be a safe bet to sell well in the run-up to Christmas". 'Cannonball' peaked at Number 19 when it was released as a single in 2004, but has been in constant use ever since on television and film. In 2010, X-Factor winner Matt Cardle covered Biffy Clyro's 'Many Of Horror' when he won the competition, with 2008 winner Alexandra Burke covering Leonard Cohen's 'Hallejulah' as her debut release.
