Just got my hands on this as might be seeing them in December, and really liking it, already liked the singles Pelican and Feel to follow, but the rest of the album is great as well, and I suspect it sounds even better on the headphones than in the car Anyone else got it and like it? Underrated I feel? Also have No kind words on my ipod, and it is one of my fave songs.

Blasphemy! Feel to follow is ACE as well! It's a grower. Not sure about over hyped, has it had good reviews?

The Quietus 7/10 - Given to the Wild is resolutely The Maccabees best
PopMatters 7/10 - Given to the Wild is an accomplished, filler-free record that presents a band at peak condition, handily exceeding the marginal example set by similar-sounding acts
The Guardian 8/10 - It's an album that bucks a trend rather than starts one: an elegant and unexpected leave-taking from the indie landfill.
BBC Music 8/10 - If only all bands had the guts and honesty of The Maccabees, maybe they'd get round to making third records as good as this
Q Magazine 8/10 - The songs are so delicately crafted that it never feels predictable
The Independent 8/10 - There are no standout songs but that's kind of the point: GTTW washes over you like a cooling stream on a hot day.
The Telegraph 8/10 - If progress is their aim, then this is fine proof of how a softly-softly approach is often best.
Clash Music 9/10 - I have seen the future of dreamy pop, and its name is The Maccabees
NME 9/10 - The album is beautifully structured, leading from spare and shimmery beginnings into harder, weirder and more varied territories, all those snippets and elements and personalities crafted into a shifting, subtle whole that quietly captures your attention from start to end
The Fly 9/10 - Impressively diverse but united by a strain of quintessentially Maccabeean hopeless hopefulness, it's an outpouring of both technical brilliance and affective emotion that thrives in its sheer humanity
Absolute Punk 9.5/10 - The Maccabees have returned as a highly evolved beast more than ready to be released into the wild world

I'd blotted this from my memory, just enjoying them on mtvrocks and thought I'd look up their discography, and it says they split up in 2016 and are doing a farewell tour now, wish I'd known, Id have persuaded my mate to go see them again. Wonder why they split when they seemed to be doing well? Spit it out, I adore!

Totally missed lead singer Orlando Weeks has done two solo albums and the three brothers have formed a band called 86TVs and just heard Worn out buildings on the 6 Music playlist, liking it a lot.

Love Worn Out Buildings. Was no.4 in my chart last month and will be a no.1 contender when I do the second version in a couple of months. It's the three brothers from Maccabees plus Jamie Morrison, who's been the drummer in Stereophonics since 2012 and was previously in the Noisettes.
I've been aware of Orlando Weeks' solo stuff for a while but it's not a patch on Maccabees.
