Whatever happened to the Wombats ? Timely reminder - I'll be listening to them on my way into work tomorrow.
Also pleased to see LCD Sound System on the list.

Been offline so catching up. Lykke Li ought to be a megastar by now. I note her album from this year had a grand total of four songwriters and producers on it - and she co-wrote and co-produced every track. So it's fair to say it's her album.
Kylie Minogue's last had fifty.

Onwards...
471 Golden Retriever Super Furry Animals (2003) 472 I Am Blisters I Am The Motorettes (2006) 473 Do The Whirlwind Architecture in Helsinki (2005) 474 Arts & Crafts Red Light Company (2009) 475 Minority Green Day (2000) 476 Reasons Not To Be An Idiot Frank Turner (2008) 477 Dani California Red Hot Chili Peppers (2006) 478 Better Off With Him A (2005) 479 Black Dollar Bills Hope Of The States (2002) 480 Give Me A Reason The Corrs (2001)
#479. Hope Of The States - Black Dollar Bills (2002)
Not much of note to say about this indie-heavy section, although I did want to highlight this gorgeous, if a little sprawling single by a band that some of you may have forgotten (sadly they disbanded in 2006, two years after the suicide of their original guitarist). I used to adore this song - I don't have much patience for all 7+ minutes of it these days but it felt wrong to exclude it from the top 500.

I loved Hope Of The States a band that was plagued with tragedy and bad luck, possibly my favourite small tent performance i ever saw at a festival . Enemies/friends is my favourite

What's that coming over the hill?
461 Monster The Automatic (2006) 462 Far Away Cut Copy (2008) 463 Lost And Found Feeder (2006) 464 Weekends And Bleak Days Young Knives (2006) 465 River Below Billy Talent (2004) 466 Danger! High Voltage! Electric Six (2002) 467 The Importance of Being Idle Oasis (2005) 468 Breathe Leaves (2002) 469 Who Needs Enemies? Cooper Temple Clause (2002) 470 Wires Athlete (2007)
#461. The Automatic - Monster (2006)
...is it an extremely overplayed noughties indie anthem? This song was inescapable during the second half of the decade (and it still gets played!) and although I obviously like it rather a lot, I'm not sure it really deserved its success. It's not even their best song according to the greendemon ranking...

Is there a limit of how many songs you allowed per artist?

10, but only one artist has more than 8 - originally it was 5 but it quickly became clear that that approach wouldn't result in a very accurate list as it would be missing some of my favourite music, so it seemed a bit counterproductive. no prizes for guessing which the over-represented artists are, btw

lol yeah, no doubt biffy and arcade fire, I narrowed them down to 9 and 8 respectively when I started a "songs on the 00's" spotify playlist and I only have a top 200 so far, I'm adding to it though and might have something worth posting by the time your finished
I devised a system (although time consuming) it involves rating a single out of 100, adding 5 points if I own the single and 5 if I own the album then checking on last.fm to see how many times I have scrobbled the track over he last decade and award it 1 point per 10 plays
for example "Biffy Clyro – 57"
85 (out of 100)+5(own album)+7(73 plays) = 97
seems to be pretty good, my top 20 are all pretty awesome so must be doing something right

good system! can't argue with numbers. just gone through my list and i have 2 artists on 8 entries and one on 10... and yes, two of those three are arcade fire and biffy biffy's back catalogue was particularly tough to cut down - they released a lot of singles between 2000 and 2009 and i happen to really like almost all of them. their lowest-ranked one (which incidentally will be making an appearance soon) might prove a controversial choice...

If we're talking Novelty, then Monster is totally irritating, did not deserve any of its success, and should be filed alongside Bob The Builder.
Whereas, Danger ! High Voltage ! is totally inspired, and hasn't aged at all. It was my year end #1 in 2003, just ahead of Crazy In Love, and would probably make my 00s Top 10.

I have all 8 of their albums, seen them live 3 times in the last 4 year so i biasedly agree

i'm still not entirely sure about 'danger! high voltage!'. my opinion of it seems to change quite a lot. first it wasn't going to make the cut at all, then i toyed with ranking it higher - it was earmarked for a mid-200s placing - but on the day i happened to compile the list, i changed my mind once again. the fickleness of women

Some catching-up to do after a brief delay...
451 When It All Falls Apart The Veronicas (2006) 452 Can't Explain Longview (2003) 453 Mundian To Bach Ke Panjabi MC (2002) 454 Cassius Foals (2008) 455 Graffiti Maximo Park (2005) 456 Jenny Stellastarr* (2003) 457 3 Feet Tall I Am Kloot (2003) 458 America Razorlight (2006) 459 Stuck In America Sugarcult (2001) 460 Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous Good Charlotte (2002)
#451. The Veronicas - When It All Falls Apart (2006)
I was going to highlight 'Mundian To Bach Ke' in this group (one of only a handful of non-English-language songs in my list), but instead decided to share this brilliant straight-up, uncomplicated noughties pop rock track, because it's actually pretty great, and because as it was never released as a single in the UK (well, not quite) it probably isn't very well-known. I visited Australia for the first time in spring 2006, and out of all the weird and wonderful things I heard on the radio over there (I'm sure there was a song about mushrooms...), this was the one that stuck with me and which I downloaded as soon as I got home.
One more to come from The Veronicas, and anyone who knows their back catalogue will probably know which it is...
