********************84 Hard-Fi - Hard To Beat************************
Hard-Fi were good but this single was just brilliant, think this finished in my year end top 10 for 2005. It also made the Uk top reaching #9. I always thought it sound like a modern 21st century Prefab Sprout song.

********************83 Jimmy Eat World - Work************************
I think this might be the 2nd highest emo song on the countdown. It was originally #12 on my first version of this list and i think it has dropped a bit too much. Just a brilliant emo power ballad. It reached #49 in 2004.

********************82 The Strokes - Last Nite************************
The other big song from their debut EP which was re-issued of course as a single and reached #14. They have one more song to go.

********************81 Editors - Bullets************************
For about 2 years I couldn't get enough of this band. I absolutely loved their debut album 'The Back Room'. This was their debut single which charted at #27 on re-issue.

********************80 Tenacious D – Tribute************************
Highest song on the list that was never a hit on my chart, not sure when it was released or if it was even an official single. It was a top 10 in Australia and New Zealand though. The best comedy record of the 00s and actually a pretty damn good rock song in itself.

********************79 Modest Mouse – Dashboard***********************
Modest Mouse were a band I was aware of as they tended to feature in Pitchfork lists and Us alt indie blogs but I never really knew their songs. But they became one of my favourite bands in the 00s. This was their 2nd biggest hit in my chart. This reached #111 in 2007.

********************78 Doves – Pounding***********************
Another appearance for Doves and one of their most uptempo tracks. This reached #21 in 2002. This was their 2nd single of the 'The Last Broadcast'

********************77 Biffy Clyro – Mountains***********************
Biffy Clyro's biggest hit and in this climate unlikely to be ever beaten. This was also their 3rd number one in Scotland.

********************76 The Shins - New Slang***********************
The breakthrough track from the Shins which at one time featured in just about every tv show and movie. The band even confirmed that they have made more money from licensing and touring track than record sales, Think sometimes people need to remember that a top 40 hit isn't the bee all and end all. I am not even sure if i dd chart this or how well it did but it probably underachieved.

********************75 Muse – Time Is Running Out***********************
Here we reach the highest Muse song on the list. I m probably not as big a Muse fan as many on this board so its probably about right. This reached #8 in 2003.

********************74 Kings Of Leon - Use Somebody***********************
'Sex On Fire' maybe overrated but I stand by this as my 2nd favourite Kings Of Leon song. Just an amazing song, you have to give them some credit that for a short time they suddenly were the biggest rock band in the world purely by releasing two big tunes in quick succession. This reached #2 in 2008, the power ballad lives on.

********************73 Idlewild - American English***********************
And in quick succession we have another indie-rock ballad. they have one more song to come from this brilliant album 'The Remote Part'. This single reached #15 in 2002.

********************72 The Rapture – House Of Jealous Lovers***********************
Time to dance now, I love everything about this song apart from the vocals, sometimes they just really annoy me but everything else in this track is just so good, I can tolerate them. Anyway cowbells!! There are more cow bells to come the best sound of mid 00s. this reached #27 in 2003 and loved by NME and Pitchfork finishing high in both their decade lists.

********************71 Louis XIV – Finding Out True Love Is Blind***********************
Now some controversy. I got a bit abuse for making this song number one while on Dotmusic and Moopy due to its misogynist lyrics. Obviously they were not being serious and being a character or not who knows and they just about got away with it in 2005. But can you imagine this song coming out now Twitter and Tumblr would go on overload!! Anyway it reached #57 in 2005 and its just brilliant garage rock.

******************70 Reverend And The Makers – Heavyweight Champion Of The World*******************
Many of the bands on this list have split, gone rubbish, or just disappeared. Would I have predicted that I would still have this band in my chart in 2017. They never bettered this fantastic 80s influenced track. Arctic Monkeys if they were brought up on Duran Duran. This reached #8 in 2006.

********************69 Ladyhawke – Dusk Till Dawn*******************
ooer. Anyway Ladyhawke's highest placed song on my list is this great 80s style gem, very Bananarama. With a brilliant zombie Halloween video. Ladyhawke also gets an award for letting me down twice, first a no show at her tent at T in the park, then she cancelled her tour and visit to Norwich. Really not happy with her. But she is so lovely I will give her one more chance. It only reached #78 in 2008.

Coldplay's first single released from their debut album, still one of their best think it has been forgotten by many. It reached #35 in 2000.

********************67 Guillemots - Made-Up Lovesong #43************************
Another song that has been forgotten, Guillemots first hit just a great piece of indie folk pop. This band were so underrated. It reached #23 in 2006.

********************66 Vanessa Carlton - A Thousand Miles************************
Yes Last dreamer we have another solo female. I have always been a sucker for amazing piano playing, i'm a huge fan of Bruce Hornsby. So when Vanessa Carlton came along combining the pop/rock of Michelle Branch et al with brilliant piano hooks, I instantly fell in love. This song reached #6 in 2002.

Now a band who aren't scared of a bit of piano. Yes their biggest song is the obvious one but admit it everyone, it is now a bit of a classic. It reached #3 in 2004.
