Easy to say that Mercedes screwed that one up, but if Hamilton hadn't pitted, then Rosberg and Vettel certainly would have done, and who knows what would have happened then (especially in light of Ricciardo's pace)?
Hamilton's misfortune in not winning in a way makes up for the fact that he was a bit lucky when he did win Monaco 2008.

I can understand the romance of Monaco, but it really is the most pointless spectacle and never meets pre-race expectations. In any other race Mercedes cock up wouldn't have mattered, but as we know, Monaco is just a procession of cars from start to finish.

Every team turns up, unveils their new cars and drivers, does 5 laps in a procession, and then packs up and goes off to testing at Catalunya.

Some Monaco stats/facts:
The last two drivers to win 3 consecutive GPs at Monaco (Senna and Rosberg) each achieved one of those wins thanks to an English driver making an unscheduled pitstop towards the end of the race (although Senna did have 3 consecutive wins on merit in 1989-91).
First time Hamilton has led a lap at Monaco since 2008.
Raikkonen is the only driver (excluding Magnussen) not to have started a race ahead of his team-mate this year.
Monaco specialist Maldonado still has 0 F1 finishes there (although he was classified in 2011).
Second year in a row that a McLaren has tried to pass a Force India at Mirabeau on lap 1, forcing the Force India into the barrier.
First time Rosberg has won 2 races in a row.
First time since the 1950s that only 2 teams have finished on the podium in the first 6 races of a season (and even then you have to exclude the Indy 500s).
Only places where Hamilton has raced but not been on pole: Austria, France, India, Turkey, Suzuka, Austin.
Rosberg’s 1000th career point, Hamilton’s 1600th, Ricciardo’s 300th, Vettel’s 1700th, and Button’s 1200th. Perez didn’t quite get his 200th, though.
First race this year in which Rosberg has finished in a different position to his starting position.
Raikkonen has already beaten his points tally from last year.
Merhi’s starting positions: 19-20-19-20-19. Stevens: 19-18-19-18.
Under the 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 system, Hamilton would be leading Rosberg by a 5th-place finish with Vettel a further 2nd-place finish behind, just as in the current system.
16th consecutive season in which Button has scored points – equals M Schumacher’s record.
21st different track at which Hamilton has scored pole – only 1 shy of Prost’s record (and he only had 33 poles in his career!).
17th consecutive Mercedes pole – equals McLaren in 1988-89 (only Williams in 1992-93 have a longer streak with 24).
First Dutchman to start from the top 10 in Monaco.
Hulkenberg started 11th for the 4th time in his 5 Monaco visits (10th in 2012 is the exception).
First time since 1952-53 that a team has got 2 cars on the podium 6 races in a row.
3rd consecutive Monaco GP in which Raikkonen has been hit by another driver (Perez, Chilton, Ricciardo).
Grosjean has made contact with another driver in every Monaco GP he has competed in.
First back-to-back mechanical DNFs for Alonso since Canada-USA 2004.
First Williams no-score since Brazil 2013 – their longest streak.

A couple of driver changes for today's Formula E race in Moscow:
Antonio Garcia returns to China Racing / NEXTEV TCR in place of Charles Pic. Justin Wilson joins Andretti in place of Scott Speed.

Vettel given 5 place penalty for passing Merhi under red flag conditions.
Merhi was also summoned to the stewards but no news on any actions.

Something i have picked up on this season is how many blue flags are used. Blue flags seem to be used even when they're fighting for position. Just seen Vettel overtake Pastor and Pastor got given the blue flags. (They're 5th and 6th.)

Not the best of races I must say.
Yesterday's Formula E race was a bit more interesting, with Jarno Trulli repeatedly cutting a chicane and escaping any penalty during the race (although he has a 5-place grid penalty for the next race) and Jean-Eric Vergne losing 2 places on the last lap (although Sebastien Buemi was penalised for an unsafe release after the race). However, the most WTF moment was when the e.dams team thought that the minimum pitstop time was 68s rather than 58s, thus keeping both their cars in the pits for 10s longer than they should have been.
Piquet Jr won the race ahead of di Grassi, and leads di Grassi in the championship by 17 points with Buemi a further 6 behind, with a double-header in London at the end of month still to come.

Some Canadian stats/facts:
Raikkonen's 42nd fastest lap - now in outright 2nd place, only behind M Schumacher (77).
Maldonado scored more points in Canada than he had in the previous 46 races put together.
First time this year that a car other than a Mercedes or Ferrari has finished on the podium. Curiously a similar duopoly was broken in Canada in 2007 (this time McLaren and Ferrari), also with a Williams in 3rd (although on that occasion there was also a BMW Sauber in 2nd).
Despite Williams' supposedly disappointing start to the season, they have scored 46 points more than they had managed at this point last year.
Hamilton's pole position tally equals his car number (44), just as it did after USA 2007 (2).
Fastest Canadian GP since 2004 (despite all the fuel-saving), obviously helped by the absence of a safety car.
4th win for Hamilton in Canada – equals China and Hungary.
Bottas has never started lower than 4th in Canada.
Alonso’s DNF means that he is still yet to finish in any position more than once in Canada (he has finished in every top 7 position once).
Alonso has started the last 3 races from 13th place – and suffered a mechanical DNF in each one!
Perez’s love of the number 11 continues – after finishing 11th in Canada, he remains 11th in the Championship on 11 points.
First time Merhi has started off the back row.
With Ericsson and Maldonado both finishing ahead of their team-mates and Raikkonen outqualifying Vettel, every 2015 driver (except Magnussen) has both started a race ahead of their team mate and finished a race ahead of their team mate.
The first 7 races of 2015 have seen 7 different drivers finish 8th, and 7 different drivers finish 10th. Also, Vettel is the first driver to have finished 5th more than once this year.
First time since 2012 that Maldonado has managed back-to-back Q3 appearances.
Best dry qualifying for Hulkenberg since USA 2013 (4th).
Massa has never started a Canadian GP in front of his team-mate.
3rd time (after 2001 and 2008, so a 7-year pattern) that Button has started 20th in Canada.
Both Hamilton and Mercedes have 77 podiums.
7 consecutive races with 2 Mercedes on the podium – first time since Ferrari in 1952-53.
First time since 2003 that Williams have scored in Canada with both cars.
First race this year in which Maldonado has not made contact with another car.
Ricciardo’s worst result (excluding DNFs) since joining Red Bull, at the track where he scored his first win last year.
3 DNFs in a row for Alonso – first time since 2001.
