Not sure I agree with Nikita Mazepin just being sacked for being Russian. He wasn't..... but sort of was:
All Russian or Belorussian drivers wishing to take part in FIA mandated events have been told to sign a 2022 season contract document stating amongst its 10 points:
2. I acknowledge the strong commitment made by the FIA to stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine, the Federation Automobile d'Ukraine, and all of those suffering as a result of the ongoing conflict.
3. I acknowledge that I may only participate in Covered Events in an individual and neutral capacity, and not in any way as a representative of Russia or Belarus.
4. I will not display any Russian/Belarusian national symbols, colours, or flags publicly or via social media.
It's not specific to F1 or anything F1 has any control over.
However, his father has close links to Putin's inner circle, so he was hardly going to sign it. On top of that Haas dropped the branding of their Russian sponsor Uralkali from their car in Barcelona.
Fertiliser company Uralkali counts Dmitry Mazepin, the father of Haas' Russian driver Nikita Mazepin, as one of its major shareholders.

Not sure I agree with Nikita Mazepin just being sacked for being Russian. Once Haas cut ties with his sponsor, there was no chance he was going to drive for them anyway, given his financial backing far outweighed his talent.

Indeed, he wasn't an F1 driver because of his skills, he is the worse driver by far, F3 standard at best.

Well the searching I had to do to find this thread tells you something about how competitive F1 has been for the last two seasons...
I found the calendar for 2024, and was wondering why they couldn't try to keep the nearby grands Prix together?
The schedule has them going to North America three times and the Far East twice:

Instead of racking up the air miles, what if they swapped Singapore and Miami around, and then moved Canada to the mid September slot? They could even make the Azeri GP precede the European season, so the list goes:
Japan China Singapore * Azerbaijan * Monaco Emilia Romagna *
With the schedule untouched after that from Spain to Italy, before the six races in the Americas. Five GPs would move but you'd save something like 30,000 air miles.

I suspect Miami isn't an option during the NFL season, which starts in September, as the circuit is in the immediate vicinity of the Hard Rock Stadium.

We've been told they've made an effort to bunch the races together to save on air miles next year and it's better than what it was this year. Like moving Japan to earlier in the season. To be fair, the calendar does look better to what it was this year.
I believe they use the Hard Rock stadium during the Miami race weekend too - as a hospitality area for the teams - and an opportunity to sell tickets to fill the stadium.
There was some debate on moving Canada to the autumn but the race organisers insisted the race be held during the summer months because of weather concerns and to maximise the daylight hours.
The bigger debate is whether there's too many races being held - 24 races next year. Obviously F1 is big money business so any opportunity for Liberty Media to capitalise (and recuperate losses from 2020) they will take it. Good for the Netflix series too.

China will no doubt get wiped off the list by February. Canada in September is too unpredictable with cold weather.

Lewis Hamilton will leave Mercedes at the end of this season and join Ferrari in 2025 by triggering a release clause in his contract, which was due to end at the end of 2025.
I find the timing of the announcement very strange when the season hasn't even started but I guess the lure of Ferrari is too good to pass down.
It'll be interesting to see what Mercedes do this season in terms of who gets preferable treatment as the season progresses. You'd imagine Russell will be the #1 driver at Mercedes next season so do they start early possibly knowing this season is already a write off in terms of winning both championships?
On the topic of preferential drivers, we all know Ferrari have a clear #1 and #2 driver policy. Both Leclerc and Hamilton are #1 drivers so who do Ferrari choose to be their lead driver? Hamilton's past history with closely matched teammates hasn't been great.

There's no way Hamilton doesn't start as #1 driver at Ferrari (unless he's completely outperformed by Russell this year). Whether it stays that way is another matter...

I think given Hamilton will probably be cashing in more at Ferrari - maybe being the most highly paid driver in F1 - will secure that #1 driver spot too, regardless of what he achieves this season.
Sainz will be the favourite at the moment to replace Hamilton at Mercedes but Merc could look somewhere different. Maybe Albon or even Mick Schumacher (still test driving for Merc I think?).
