I know you bring in music from all over but that means certain songs get skipped out. Disappointed not to see a former milkman who won Opportunity Knocks. I actually don't know who you mean, as the tracks I don't know I'm going firstly to Spotify, and if not there to youtube to listen to. Is that Berni Flint - I Don't Want to Put a Hold On You? - who to my ears sounds like Jim Croce dolloped in far too much saccharine.

12 Retro rewind entries this week from:
- Later included on their only album, Never Mind the b****cks, Here's the Sex Pistols. The Chris Thomas produced UK #2 (yeah right!!!) song was released during Queen Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee in 1977. The record's lyrics, as well as the cover, were controversial at the time, and both the BBC and the Independent Broadcasting Authority refused to play the song. The song is an attack on the treatment of the working class in England in the 1970s by the government.
- The Jeff Lynne written & produced symphonic rock track taken from the album A New World Record, reached UK #8, USA #7, Australia #10, & #1 in Canada & New Zealand.
- The Liverpool band's atmospheric soft rock track which peaked at UK #40 composed by Roger Craig & Billy Kinsley and was the title track of their second album.
- The David Bowie & Iggy Pop composition taken from The Stooges solo The Idiot album produced by David Bowie was released as a single but failed to chart, but it pushed the album back up the charts.
- The single and title track of Marc Bolan's final studio album which had a distinctly New Wave sound failed to chart in the UK.
- The Nick Lowe produced country tinged Post Punk ballad was the second single taken from the English songwriter's debut studio album My Aim Is True failed to chart. But my goodness today it is regarded as a classic.
- The Bluesy rock ballad from the Australian hard rock group's Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap album, later turned up on AC/DC's Who Made Who soundtrack album.
- The second single taken from the self titled debut album by the London Punk Rock group failed to reach the UK top 50.
- The UK #27 opening track from the Glasgow rock singer's Full House album produced by Chris Thomas was written by Andy Fraser of Free.
- The USA #78 & Canada #73 title track of the British rock supergroup's 1977 album was penned by lead singer Paul Rodgers.
- The UK #15 opening track & title track of the disco pop funk group's debut 1976 studio album was penned by Rod Temperton and produced by Barry Blue.

A second Retro Rewind chart topper with their second single, which according to John Lydon after the referendum vote which took place on June 23rd 2016 is surely more relevant today than it was 40 years ago .....
Eight new entries occur from:
- The Hotel California rock track written by Joe Walsh (based on his guitar riff which runs through the track), Glenn Frey and Don Henley which peaked at USA #11 & Canada #12.
- The New York City songwriter (most famous for his breakthrough composition "A Groovy Kind Of Love") recover of the minor Bette Midler USA hit, had far greater success topping the chart in Australia; & peaking at UK #6, perhaps because it features Carole King on keyboards & female backing vocals & a Paul Buckmaster string arrangement.
- The stark socio-commentary track from Songs In The Key Of Life with lyrics by Gary Byrd.
- The ironic UK #8 hit taken from the Punk Rock group's debut album Rattus Norvegicus featured Hugh Cornwall's lecherous sneer over controversial lyrics which saw it initially banned, before a more radio friendly version was recorded.
- Composed by Paul Pena in 1973, the Texas blues rock singer/guitarist covered the track as his USA #8, Canada #3, Australia #23 lead single from his group's Book Of Dream's album.
- The John Oates penned Bigger Than Both of Us album track became a USA #28, Canada #17 & Australia #70 blue eyed soul hit for the Philadelphia duo.

Seven new entries this week from:
- Taken from the Everyone's A Winner album this midtempo soul dance UK #1, USA #31 & Australia #3 hit was written by Russ Ballard and produced by Mickie Most.
- The album track from Exodus, the ninth studio album by Jamaican reggae recording band Bob Marley and the Wailers. On 3 December 1976, an assassination attempt was made on Bob Marley's life in which his chest was grazed and his arm was struck, but he survived. Following the assassination attempt Marley left Jamaica and was exiled to London where Exodus was recorded, hence this feel good anthem has a whole additional level of meaning. Belatedly released as a single in 1980 it reached UK #17.
- The disco soul track written & produced by written by Van McCoy, became a USA #52, UK #4 & Canada #58 hit.
- The British Music Hall inspired UK #17 third single from Day at the Races, was written by Freddie Mercury.
- The non album radio friendly pub rock side to "Peaches" was the one which picked up the initial radio airplay on the UK #8 single. The Music and lyrics were by Jean-Jacques Burnel, middle 8 by Hugh Cornwell.
- The Wilko Johnson penned UK #47 single first appeared as the first track on the Pub Rockers same titled album, Sneakin' Suspicion.
- This punk rock song written in 1975 by New York City punk rock musicians Richard Hell and Dee Dee Ramone openly discussed heroin addiction based on real-life experiences. Even though Johnny Thunders is credited on the record, he had nothing to do with the recording.

Liverpool's third greatest singer songwriter grabs his maiden Retro Rewind chart topper ... Nine entries this week from:
- The UK #2 prog rock instrumental taken from the group's 1977 Works Volume I album. Adapted by Keith Emerson from Aaron Copland's 1942 piece of the same name.
- The third single taken from their fifth album, "Deceptive Bends" was apparently the breaking point to cause Godley & Creme to split from Gouldman & Stewart as they said at the time of their debut album "They did not want to be in band that do Leo Sayer ballads". It stalled at USA #40, Canada #90, Australia #74 and failed to reach the UK top 50.
- The Krautrock song from Low features a ragtime piano opening, and sounds unnervingly like Madness before they existed (Funnily enough Suggs did this song at the Jan 8th 2017 Bowie 70th birthday tribute show at the Brixton Academy). It became the first new Bowie release since "Changes" and the start of his run of hits from "Starman" to fail to break into the UK chart.
- The third single from the Every Face Tells a Story album was this heartfelt ballad penned by Peter Sills. However, it featured on his Best selling 1981 compilation "Love Songs" and is not rightfully regarded as a classic "slipped disc".
- The American rock band from Gainesville, Florida. In 1976, the band's original lineup was Tom Petty as the lead singer and guitar player, Mike Campbell as the lead guitarist, Ron Blair on bass, Stan Lynch on drums, and Benmont Tench on keyboards. Taken from their self titled debut album this Tom Petty written, Tom Cordell produced New Wave sounding heartland rock track reached UK #36.
- This cover of the 1975 Righteous Brothers album track was taken from the duo's 1977 album Passage produced by Richard Carpenter. It stalled at USA #35, Australia #89, Canada #38, & failed to trouble the UK top 50.
- The Sydney, Australia rock band Australia #2 hit taken from their Photoplay album.
- The third single taken from the self titled debut album was written by band leader Tom Scholz and peaked at USA #38 & Australia #41.
- The London punk rock band signed to Epic records in 1977, and released their debut album Pure Mania from which this Ian Milroy Carnochan penned gothic sounding punk single was taken.

- The first single of the German disco pop band's second album Love for Sale which topped the charts in Germany, Austria, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Norway, Mexico, Spain, Sweden & Switzerland also peaked at UK #2, USA #96, Canada #50, & Australia #5.
- The UK #14 & USA #103 title track of the Jamaican reggae icon's most famous studio album.
- The London born singer/songwriter's final international top 40 hit (UK #44, USA #33, Canada #27, & Australia #18) was taken from the synth pop friendly tenth studio album Izitso was a duet with the then uncredited fellow UK singer Elkie Brooks. Confusingly his then girlfriend Linda Lewis appears in the song's video lip syncing the "Pearl's A Singer" hit maker. He would release one further album 1978's Back To Earth before retiring from music for 27 years.
- The soft rock ballad from the album Lace and Whiskey reached USA #9, Canada #3 & Australia #2, but failed to chart in the UK. It would be his last international top ten hit for over a decade.
- The UK #29, Canada #8, Australia #43 & USA #15 opening track from Even In The Quietest Moments prog rock classic features its writing credits as given to Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson, although it is a Hodgson composition (i.e a Lennon/McCartney situation).
- The second single taken from the Bob Ezrin produced first Peter Gabriel album (aka Car) featured King Crimson main-man Robert Fripp on guitar.
- The Jamaican "Godfather of Rocksteady" signature tune later murdered by Sean Paul.

- The self penned opening country ballad from the Country singer's New Harvest ... First Gathering album reached USA #87.

- The New York punk rock band's UK #36 hit from their second album Leave Home.
- The former Stevie Wonder backing gospel soul singer's USA #103 & UK #8 hit mellow R&B single taken from her debut album This Is Niecy.
- The UK #9 Power Pub rock anthem written by Eddie and the Hot Rods' manager Ed Hollis (the brother of Talk Talk's Mark Hollis) and guitarist Graeme Douglas.
- The traditional pop theme song from the Martin Scorsese film New York, New York (1977), composed by John Kander, with lyrics by Fred Ebb sung by Judy Garland's Oscar Award winning actress daughter, three years before Frank Sinatra made it his final classic signature tune.

The Rock Follies one was one that intrigued me when I first came upon the GRRR books. Not least because I had heard of Rula Lenska only as an actress, but a record getting into the top 10 yet only spending 6 weeks on the charts? Weird. Thought it might have been a novelty one. As it is, the lyrics are quite risque for mainstream television. Presumably it was Legs & Co-ed on TOTP given that Julie Covington wouldn't appear for her million-seller.
Wonder why it was credited to the 4 actresses rather than "The Little Ladies". It led to problems for Polydor as they had to mess with the label format to fit them all on.
There are some brilliant, brilliant songs on the Rock Follies soundtrack, the title perhaps being the best of them.
"I Feel Love"...one of perhaps two disco tracks worth listening to.
