With 25% of the chart new entries:
- The News Of The World album rock anthem penned by Freddie Mercury used in numerous sporting events. As one side of the Double A sided single it hit UK #2, USA #4, Canada #3 & Australia #8.
- The other side of the Double A sided single from the News Of The World album penned by Brian May, which is a near a capella stomping rock chant.
- The UK #5, Australia #12, & Sweden #1 debut single penned by Tom Robinson from his punk/pub rock new wave group.
- The self penned melancholic acoustic rock track from Knnillssonn which was the maverick songwriter's final single release on RCA records. It features Manfred Mann, Plastic Ono Band bassist & multiple album covers designer Klaus Voorman on harmonies.
- The USA #42 title track of the Boston hard rock group's 5th studio album written by Steven Tyler & Joe Perry & produced by Jack Douglas.
- The belated third single from Thirty Three & A Third album was a melodic rock ballad written back in October 1969, which George "kept in his pocket" for a forthcoming Beatles album as "it sounded like a lost Rubber Soul sessions track" that never ever materialised.
- The jazz tinged country USA #2 (Country #1, AC #4), Canada #1, UK #5, & Australia #16 song written by Richard Leigh, and recorded by American country music singe. In 1978, the song won Gayle a Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance.
- The English singer-songwriter and guitarist with Traffic made USA #12 with this soft rock song penned by Jim Krueger.
- Swindon's finest released this punk rock/new wave debut single penned by Andy Partridge on Virgin Records which sounded like the Kaiser Chiefs trying to be Devo. Roll on the BBC 4 Commissioned Documentary on them (working title: "This Is Pop? The Story Of XTC" narrated by (of course) Swindon's very own Billie Piper in the autumn of 2017!)
- Bill Nelson's Yorkshire art rock group's latest UK flop single taken from the album Sunburst Finish.

- The folk pop first solo single from the Australian born Susan Traynor, the former lead singer of the now defunct Fox, written by their guitarist/producer Kenny Young. It peaked at UK #31, but no higher after Radio DJ Tony Blackburn (who is doing to Radio 2's Sound Of The Sixties what the OCC are currently doing to the singles charts) kicked up a stink about the songs risque lyrics resulting in it getting banned and withdrawn by GYO records resulting in the singer going on a 2 year old strike to get released from her contract!
- The post punk title track of the Stooges frontman's latest album was co-written by its producer David Bowie. Initially it was only a minor hit in Europe bar the Netherlands where it peaked at #3. But after its use in the 1996 British film Trainspotting it became a belated UK #26 hit.
- The instrumental post punk reworking instrumental version of Jamaican musician Earl Zero's reggae song "None Shall Escape the Judgment" became a surprise UK #5 hit, in part seeing what Top Of The Pops dancers Lgs & Co would come up with for it.
- The Martin Rushent produced debut single by the Manchester punk rockers composed by Pete Shelley & Howard Devoto. It was banned by the BBC due to its lyrics.

Todd Rundgren's progressive rock group top my Retro Rewind chart with the blue eyed soul soft rock classic which until I was in my late 20s I wrongly thought was a Hall & Oates song. Nine new entries this week from:
- The Brothers Gibb soft rock classic penned for the forthcoming blockbusting Saturday Night Fever OST. A huge hit single which topped the charts in the USA, Canada, France, Brazil, Chile, & Finland as well as reaching #3 in the UK & Australia.
- The song about the shock of abortion from the 1977 album Never Mind the b****cks, Here's the Sex Pistols, with John Lydon's lyrics contain very graphic imagery about a terminated fetus and feature a great deal of profanity for the time.
- The New York New Wave group's first UK single, released on Chrysalis Records in the UK in late 1977. Its only chart success was in Australia #81. It was composed by Deborah Harry & Chris Stein; and produced by Richard Gottehrer.
- First available on the album JT, and released as the album's second single the feel good USA #20 & Canada #11 was written about his wife Carly Simon, and their then three-year-old daughter Sally.
- The USA #3, Canada #2, Australia #3 & UK #35 country pop cover of the 1963 song written by Roy Orbison and Joe Melson featured Don Henley on backing vocals, taken from the album Simple Dreams.
- The first North American single by the Heartland Rock group which hit #40 in both the USA & Canada.

- The Scottish folk song written in tribute to the picturesque Kintyre peninsula in Scotland and its headland where McCartney has owned High Park Farm since 1966. It also topped the charts in Australia, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands & Switzerland.
