Day 1: MARK WILLIAMS 10-7 MARTIN GOULD Luca Brecel 5-4 Gary Wilson Neil Robertson 9-0 Michael Georgiou Ding Junhui 6-3 Anthony McGill Stephen Maguire 4-5 Tian Pengfei Neil Robertson is just a frame away from completing only the second whitewash in Crucible history. The first was in 1992 when John Parrott opened his title defence with a 10-0 win over Aussie veteran Eddie Charlton.

Day 2: DING JUNHUI 10-7 ANTHONY McGILL LUCA BRECEL 9-10 GARY WILSON NEIL ROBERTSON 10-1 MICHAEL GEORGIOU STEPHEN MAGUIRE 10-9 TIAN PENGFEI John Higgins 6-3 Mark Davis Shaun Murphy 9-0 Luo Honghao Gary Wilson won the longest frame in Crucible history, lasting just under 80 minutes, to beat Luca Brecel 10-9. Michael Georgiou avoided the whitewash against Neil Robertson but Luo Honghao could suffer that fate tomorrow against Shaun Murphy. Stephen Maguire came back to win having been 9-7 down and needing a snooker in frame 17.

Day 3: SHAUN MURPHY 10-0 LUO HONGHAO JOHN HIGGINS 10-7 MARK DAVIS MARK SELBY 10-7 ZHAO XINTONG Ronnie O'Sullivan 4-5 James Cahill David Gilbert 6-3 Joe Perry So we do get the first whitewash since 1992 with Murphy seeing off Luo Honghao. Luo also breaks the record for the fewest points scored in a Crucible match with just 89, beating the 191 scored by Danny Fowler in his 10-1 loss to Stephen Hendry in 1993. Higgins and Selby, with seven world titles between them progress in unconvincing fashion, while world no.1 Ronnie O'Sullivan needs to improve on Tuesday morning if he is to avoid suffering arguably the biggest World Championship shock of all-time against amateur James Cahill.

Day 4: RONNIE O'SULLIVAN 8-10 JAMES CAHILL DAVID GILBERT 10-7 JOE PERRY STUART BINGHAM 10-9 GRAEME DOTT Judd Trump 3-6 Thepchaiya Un-Nooh Mark Allen 2-7 Zhou Yuelong James Cahill produces one of the biggest snooker upsets of all-time by knocking out the world no.1 in the 1st round. Cahill was only in the qualifying tournament through the top-up list from last year's Q School but his performances this season mean he will earn a 2-year tour card through the 1-year money list. However, as he will have a 2-year tour card, he will start from zero and the prize money he earns in this tournament won't count towards next season's rankings. Stuart Bingham survived an amazing fightback from Graeme Dott to fall over the line. Bingham led 8-1 after the morning session and 9-4 in the evening but Dott fought back to 9-9 (including a frame Bingham lost via the 3-miss rule) before the 2015 champion snatched it at the end.

A fantastic win for James Cahill against some unknown called Ronnie O'Sullivan. It just looked like Ronnie didn't fancy the 2-week slog. He's had a good season, won plenty of tournaments and returned to the world no.1 position and it's as if he was satisfied with that and wasn't fussed about giving it 100% at the Crucible. All credit to Cahill though - it's great to see him move on to that next level that many snooker fans have known he was capable of for several years.

I agree that O'Sullivan didn't look particularly focussed on the match. Nevertheless, Cahill managed to hold his nerve in the last few frames remarkably well. There were a few times when I thought he might panic, but he never did.

Day 5: JUDD TRUMP 10-9 THEPCHAIYA UN-NOOH MARK ALLEN 7-10 ZHOU YUELONG BARRY HAWKINS 10-1 LI HANG Kyren Wilson 6-2 Scott Donaldson Jack Lisowski 4-5 Ali Carter Judd Trump produced a fightback to beat Thepchaiya Un-Nooh in an excellent match. Mark Allen left himself too much to do to overcome Zhou Yuelong after a dismal first session. Zhou becomes the second Chinese player through to the last 16, joining Ding. Barry Hawkins steamrollered Li Hang as he looks to reach the one table setup for the sixth time in seven years.

I posted this a while back but thought I'd put it up again. These are the Crucible finals we could have had if the losing semi-finalists had won instead:
1977: John Pulman v Dennis Taylor 1978: Fred Davis v Eddie Charlton 1979: John Virgo v Eddie Charlton 1980: Kirk Stevens v David Taylor 1981: Cliff Thorburn v Ray Reardon 1982: Eddie Charlton v Jimmy White 1983: Alex Higgins v Tony Knowles 1984: Dennis Taylor v Kirk Stevens 1985: Ray Reardon v Tony Knowles 1986: Tony Knowles v Cliff Thorburn 1987: Neal Foulds v Jimmy White 1988: Cliff Thorburn v Jimmy White 1989: Stephen Hendry v Tony Meo 1990: Steve Davis v John Parrott 1991: Steve Davis v Steve James 1992: Alan McManus v Terry Griffiths 1993: Alan McManus v James Wattana 1994: Steve Davis v Darren Morgan 1995: Jimmy White v Andy Hicks 1996: Ronnie O'Sullivan v Nigel Bond 1997: James Wattana v Alain Robidoux 1998: Mark Williams v Ronnie O'Sullivan 1999: John Higgins v Ronnie O'Sullivan 2000: John Higgins v Joe Swail 2001: Matthew Stevens v Joe Swail 2002: Matthew Stevens v Ronnie O'Sullivan 2003: Paul Hunter v Stephen Lee 2004: Matthew Stevens v Stephen Hendry 2005: Peter Ebdon v Ian McCulloch 2006: Ronnie O'Sullivan v Marco Fu 2007: Stephen Maguire v Shaun Murphy 2008: Stephen Hendry v Joe Perry 2009: Mark Allen v Neil Robertson 2010: Mark Selby v Ali Carter 2011: Mark Williams v Ding Junhui 2012: Stephen Maguire v Matthew Stevens 2013: Judd Trump v Ricky Walden 2014: Barry Hawkins v Neil Robertson 2015: Barry Hawkins v Judd Trump 2016: Alan McManus v Marco Fu 2017: Barry Hawkins v Ding Junhui 2018: Barry Hawkins v Kyren Wilson

Day 6: JACK LISOWSKI 6-10 ALI CARTER KYREN WILSON 10-4 SCOTT DONALDSON Shaun Murphy 3-5 Neil Robertson Mark Selby 3-5 Gary Wilson Ali Carter and Kyren Wilson take the last remaining places in the last 16. Lisowski is the 4th seed to be knocked out. All 4 unseeded players remaining are in the bottom half of the draw, with 2 - Carter and Zhou - playing each other in the 2nd round. The match between Barry Hawkins and Li Hang was the only one in the 1st round not to feature a century break.

Day 7: SHAUN MURPHY 6-13 NEIL ROBERTSON Mark Williams 3-5 David Gilbert Mark Selby 7-9 Gary Wilson Stephen Maguire 9-7 James Cahill In worrying news, Mark Williams is in hospital after suffering chest pains. He played the first session of his last 16 match this afternoon but was admitted shortly afterwards. Neil Robertson is the first man through to the quarter-finals after seeing off Shaun Murphy. Murphy managed to keep things close for a session and a half but Robertson won five frames in a row to reach the last 8 for the first time since 2015. Wallsend's Gary Wilson maintained his two-frame advantage over Mark Selby going into tomorrow morning's final session. James Cahill fought back against Stephen Maguire to level at 7-7 but the Scot keeps finding a way to stay in front. They finish their match tomorrow afternoon. In terms of the world rankings, any one of the current top 4 could finish the season as world no.1, while any of the top 8 (apart from Mark Allen) could finish in the top 2.

Day 8: MARK SELBY 10-13 GARY WILSON STEPHEN MAGUIRE 13-12 JAMES CAHILL MARK WILLIAMS 9-13 DAVID GILBERT Judd Trump 5-3 Ding Junhui John Higgins 4-4 Stuart Bingham 2 world champions exit as both Gary Wilson and David Gilbert reach the quarter-finals for the first time. With Wilson playing the winner of Carter/Zhou, we are guaranteed a qualifier in the semi-finals for the 8th time in 15 years. Stephen Maguire ended the brave challenge of James Cahill, who managed to lead 11-10 at one point.

Qualifiers reaching the semi-finals at the Crucible:
** = champion * = runner-up
1977: Cliff Thorburn * 1978: Perrie Mans * and Fred Davis 1979: Terry Griffiths ** and John Virgo 1980: Kirk Stevens 1982: Jimmy White 1989: Tony Meo 1992: Alan McManus 1995: Andy Hicks 2000: Joe Swail 2005: Shaun Murphy ** and Ian McCulloch 2006: Marco Fu 2007: Mark Selby * 2008: Joe Perry 2010: Graeme Dott * 2011: Judd Trump * 2016: Alan McManus
From 1977 to 1979, the tournament only featured 16 players. It increased to 24 in 1980, with the top 16 qualifying automatically instead of the top 8, with the top 8 receiving a bye to Round 2. The current 32-player format was adopted in 1982.

Day 9:
John Higgins 8-8 Stuart Bingham Judd Trump 7-9 Ding Junhui Barry Hawkins 9-7 Kyren Wilson Ali Carter 7-9 Zhou Yuelong
A quirk of the schedule that no matches were completed today but by the end of tomorrow we'll know the identity of all 8 quarter-finalists.
Higgins and Bingham remain locked together in a battle of 2 former world champions. Ding has completely turned the tide against Trump, coming from 5-1 down to lead 9-7. Last year's 2 beaten semi-finalists Barry Hawkins and Kyren Wilson are also closely matched, though Wilson has fought back, having been 6-1 down at one point. Debutant Zhou holds the advantage over 2-time finalist Carter, keeping the possibility alive of 2 Chinese players in the quarter-finals for the first time.

Day 10: ALI CARTER 13-9 ZHOU YUELONG BARRY HAWKINS 11-13 KYREN WILSON JUDD TRUMP 13-9 DING JUNHUI JOHN HIGGINS 13-11 STUART BINGHAM Both Chinese players failed to win a single frame today as Carter and Trump both swept into the quarter-finals. Kyren Wilson took advantage of a poor display by Barry Hawkins to reach the last 8 for the 4th year in a row. John Higgins is also there for the 4th year in a row after edging out Stuart Bingham.

Day 11:
David Gilbert 10-6 Kyren Wilson John Higgins 4-4 Neil Robertson Gary Wilson 9-7 Ali Carter Judd Trump 7-1 Stephen Maguire
David Gilbert is on the verge of his first Crucible quarter-final after taking control against Kyren Wilson this evening. Gary Wilson missed a chance to lead Ali Carter by the same scoreline this evening and the two-time runner-up reduced the margin to two frames going into the final session. Neil Robertson and John Higgins are level after a scrappy opening session, while Judd Trump absolutely dominated Stephen Maguire and will look to wrap up victory with a session to spare.
