It's everything about emotions. "Woman In Love" became the first big Barbra's hit in very good year for UK # 1s.

(28.12.1980) : Olivia Newton-John and Cliff Richard - Suddenly (1 week at # 1)UK chart : # 15 Olivia Newton-John and Cliff Richard got Christmas # 1 hit with a love theme from "Xanadu". "Happy New Year" wasn't released as single in UK, so there is a difference between my two # 1s lists. Based on the rules of this retrospective ABBA lost many # 1s (from "Nina, Pretty Ballerina" in 1973 to "When All Is Said and Done" in 1982). Blondie broke their impressive long chain of consecutive number one hits, because "The Tide Is High" was peaked only at # 3 behind two bestsellers from Barbra Streisand and Sue Wilkinson.

Olivia Newton-John and Cliff Richard - Suddenly (28.12.1980) (1 week)
Very successful year for UK # 1s. Five from them became my # 1s and three other singles also were a big hits ("Brass In Pocket", "Xanadu", "The Tide Is High").
Blondie's phenomenal chain with eleven (!!!) consecutive # 1 singles was over. Every their UK single before "The Tide Is High" was # 1 in my chart (from "In The Flash" in 1976 to "Atomic"), but all three non-UK singles "I'm Gonna Love You Too", "One Way Or Another", "The Hardest Part" even didn't reach top 10 in the weekly charts.

Will Super Trouper chart yet or it never reached no1? I'd like to know where did you place Xanadu, Geno and Ashes to Ashes as I was expecting to see those there as well...

"Super Trouper" is the next # 1. "Xanadu" was # 2 (behind Brotherhood of Man), if we talk about this retrospective. Probably a little lower if I will add the singles from other countries (not UK) and Eurovsion, but it still a strong top 5 hit.

(05.04.1981) : Bucks Fizz - Making Your Mind Up (3 weeks at # 1)
UK chart : # 1
Classic Eurovision contest again. Two winners of my previous ESC rankings Cheryl Baker (winner in 1978, as Co-Co member) and Irish singer Maxi (winner in 1973) fought for the second crown. Bucks Fizz won in the real life and "Making Your Mind Up" is my favourite Eurovision song of 1981. It was 4th British win in last 5 years.
German entry "Johnny Blue" also became the iconic entry and still popular through Eurovision fans now.
My top (Eurovision - 1981) : 1. United Kingdom 2. Ireland 3. Netherlands 4. Germany
