64 Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) - Eurythmics
One of their most famous songs of course and their biggest hit in the US where it reached number one, it had to settle for just #2 here.

63 When I'm With You – Sheriff
This one was a hard song to place. This was a US number one but that wouldn't happen for a few years. The reason I included it 1983 is the sound fits better there. This is one of the greatest power ballads ever but is relatively unknown in the UK. It only reached#63 in 1983 but after a burst of airplay in Canada where the song had reached #8, it got picked up again by US radio and was re-issued and then became a number one single in 1989. Sheriff went on to be members of top AOR band Alias, who would have chart success in US in the early 90s.

62 Love Is A Wonderful Colour – The Icicle Works
Back to the UK we return with one of the hottest new indie rock bands of the time. Only their third single , it became a big hit and one they never really managed to follow up even with a quite a lengthy chart career. This reached #15 in the UK.

61 Love On Your Side – Thompson Twins
This is more like it. The first single I really loved by Thompson Twins and they will do no wrong for the next 4-5 years and to be fair i really like their early 90s dance tracks as well. This reached #9 in the UK.

60 Come Dancing – The Kinks
I absolutely loved this song at the time and the video was one of my favourites too. Funny to think 35 years later 'Come Dancing' is actually trendy. This was a big hit it even went top 10 in US reaching #6 and #12 over here.

59 Cruel Summer – Bananarama
I think this is probably my favourite Bananarama song, just had a great vibe. Top 10 hit on both sides of the Atlantic reaching #8 here and #9 in US.

58 Synchronicity II - The Police
For The Police this wasn't the best song they ever wrote but it had a cool video and has a great sound. The third single from their 'Synchronicity' album it reached #16 in US and #17 here, there is a lot of overlap between the two charts now.

57 War Baby – Tom Robinson
Now for something quite different, this was just one of those songs that Radio 1 seemed to love and now it is just as loved on 6Music. It was completely different from his previous big hit and the way he fitted so many words into one line was a little irritating. This reached #6 in the UK.

56 Relax - Frankie Goes To Hollywood
We will start by saying I didn't really like this at first and I have gone on and off it over the years, 'Two Tribes' is far superior so I am being a bit generous letting it be so high but it is a classic so. It was a UK number one of course and reached #10 in the US.

55 Get the Balance Right – Depeche Mode
A quietish year for them but they do have one big song to come, this is a solid Depeche track not brilliant. It reached #13 in the Uk.

54 Too Shy – Kajagoogoo
Have to say every track from now is completely awesome, this was such a brilliant debut hit, you couldn't help but love it straight away. This spend two weeks at number one in the week and woudl reach #5 in the US.

53 Dirty Laundry – Don Henley
A song that is still as valid today as it was then and to make that point we will use this parody video as I cant find the real promo. This reached #3 in the US but only #59 over here sadly.

52 Sign Of The Times – The Belle Stars
Winning the battle of the girl groups and another career best. Just more perfect pop this reached #3 in the Uk and #75 in the US.

51 Family Man - Daryl Hall & John Oates
Biggest song for Hall & Oates in 1983 covering the Mike Oldfield classic but they do make it even better. It actually did well here as well as US reaching #15 and #6 in US.

50 1999 - Prince
Wow here is a big song to kick off the top 50 just like a chart rundown hehe Prince still has one more to come. I had been aware of Prince for sometime as one of my classmates was a huge fan but this was really the song that made me really pay attention. It reached #12 in the US and #2 in the UK.

49 She's A Beauty - The Tubes
Here we go again another one of those 80s US hits I never knew until the early 00s. This track is every thing that is great about 80s US pop/rock . By far the best thing they ever did and helped by huge features with Toto and Chicago vocalists on backing. It was a huge radio hit in the US reaching #1 on Airplay but #10 on Billboard.

I have to say I am listening to 1986 and it is a very hard year, absolutely no idea how I am going to only have 100 songs so far out of 100 there is has only been about 20 I don'.t love

You don't normally think of 1986 as one of the great years for music but that's because there were quite a few big hits that were of very poor quality that obscure things. 1981 had its share too but that was also a new era for music when a lot of the top bands either appeared for the first time or had a big hit for the first time, so you tend to remember it that way.
At least you'll be ready for the retro charts hitting that year.

I agree with you in Sweet Dreams only being as high as #64. I've always felt it's overrated. It reached my top 10 but wasn't a big hit in my chart.
Your #1 of 1983 may well be Blue Monday. If it isn't #1 I'd expect it to be high anyway.

Its close but not number one no.
48 Long Hot Summer - Single Edit – The Style Council
As I said early this was always my favourite but not anymore but it still has the higher placing, if I do this again in 10 years time though who knows. This was their biggest hit though which reached #3
