Few random thoughts here:
I suspect the Public Service Broadcasting album was released too late for the deadline. Though I've never been convinced by them anyway.
RnB Man is just a spare Ed Sheeran anyway, so there was no need to nominate both of them. And I don't think the new Charlatans album is as good as the last one, it's just got more famous people on it.
Alt-J only seem to make records in order to be nominated for awards so no surprises there.

Think I might prefer this version:

Yeah, but he still does all that stuff now and with non-football subjects added in.

Duncan Wisbey also does the jingle for Danny Baker's Radio 5 show. If the BBC had any sense they'd get him back on 606. It's unlistenable now, basically just a Champions League phone-in for people who couldn't find Manchester on a map of Greater Manchester. I thought that was the point of 606? Personally I quite like being able to listen to a Danny Baker show that isn't full of callers' uninteresting football opinions. Meanwhile, does turning a minute of David Bowie going "la-la-la" into a song count as bizarre enough, even if it was only released as a single in Japan?

Interesting to have two tracks that use pop as a way to talk about difficult topics: 'Robert De Niro's Waiting' is supposedly about a rape victim and the Hitler rap is about, well, Hitler.

I'd forgotten all about Wippit! I presume that no longer exists.

Yep, as it was released on another label Geffen would only allow a limited number of copies to be pressed.

I don't think it's wrong to include non-T40 singles, by Haim still seem a risky choice. It would've made more sense to include somebody like Royal Blood with proven recent success.

Why are Haim on there?

He seems to have been trailling this new material for years now, glad (some of) it's finally here.

I'm not actually old enough to remember the Yorkie advert, but I kind of want one of those brown vinyl singles now.
Did anyone else know there was a Wikka Wrap 2 - seven years later?

Robert Smith plays on the record of Dear Prudence as well of course. Though I think he'd officially left by Christmas 1983.

The main reason I don't love the Four Seasons is Frankie Valli's voice, TBH, so take that out of the equation and you're onto something.

Yeah, I think Billy Joel is (or was) good at writing pop songs but because of the time he became famous he kept over-reaching himself and trying to write "serious" "important" songs like 'Scenes From An Italian Restaurant', 'Goodnight Saigon', 'Leningrad' etc. And of course 'Piano Man', where even the title doesn't scan properly.

Obligatory mention of Barry Cryer getting to Number One in Finland with Purple People Eater.

I actually prefer the song that was in the other team's tie-breaker question though.

This isn't exactly a "Nearly Forgotten" Hit but a completely forgotten hit for me. I went to Popmaster Live over the weekend and, to cut a long story short, our team came joint top on points, so I had to go up and take part in the tie-break. But could I name Spagna's second Top 40 hit? No.
Still, it was a lot of fun and I got to meet Ken Bruce so what more could you want?

I suppose Grocer Jack is an interesting example of an absent character in a song.

I don't think Sgt Pepper himself counts as a character, TBH. They're Sgt Pepper's band but that doesn't mean even they've ever met him. We certainly don't. I suppose you could envisage Billy Shears as a character though.

I presume they have to be vocalists who are actually members of the group, otherwise you could include The Chemical Brothers or Eric Prydz.
