Yes, I remember that track from my brother's Shine 8 CD. I think it was the last track on Disc 2.

silly question, why was it called 'Brit Pop', I mean, Pop??? Who coined that term? Stuart Maconie claims to have used it first in the now-defunct Select magazine. and wouldn't Brit Rock be more fitting??? sure Oasis and all are rock rather than pop I'd say With hindsight, yes Oasis do seem more like a rock band, but people first started using the word they were talking about Suede, Pulp, the Auteurs and even Saint Etienne, who had a rather different sensibility. It just so happened that because Oasis showed up later in the game and went on to become so much more successful that they seem to be seen as a definition. It was probably easier for the record companies to find Oasis clones as well. In any case, I think the phrase "Britrock" was already is use by then for the likes of Terrorvision and Little Angels.

I think it's stretching a point to count Portishead as Britpop, TBH. Maybe the same goes for Dubstar as well.
Of course I had to vote for Gene, although just between you and me I think Drawn To The Deep End was their best one.

Hello, TheHitParade. As it happens, did you have the same name on Radio 1 and I've just forgotten you. If so then please excuse my rudeness, if not then who were you then? By the way, Quadraphenia is brilliant. Sting is quite bad in it but he manages not to ruin it, his part is pretty small. I didn't realise it was *that* kind of film! </innuendo> In a futile attempt to create mystique, I'll PM you my old BBC username.

I'd been thinking of doing this one for a while, and then I saw it get a mention a blog and decided now was the time. One of several near-misses by a group known for their one big hit. Mind you I can't claim I was cool enough to appreciate this when I was six.
PS - Sorry, I couldn't embed the official video.

I know this is an old thread but I've only recently joined so I thought I'd mention that I blogged this album a while back. So if anybody cares what I thought of these tracks a couple of years ago: nowthats.blogspot.com/search/label/Now%2034

Howdy Sherriff, haven't seen these since I used to read these on the old Radio 1 board.
I won't go back and comment on everything now, but I can mention that 'Green Onions' was re-issued in 1979 because it was used in the film of Quadrophenia. Which I've never seen, not only because I know Sting's in it.
