The problem with coming 2nd is you play an easy team but then its France...then its Italy or Belgium!...then the final
My biggest frustration with England is it appears that maintaining possession, or more accurately, not doing anything that might result in losing possession, trumps everything else. If an attacker has the ball out wide on the right and is fronting up to the full back, it now seems that rather than having a go at the full back and risk losing the ball, players are turning and passing back to the defensive midfielder, then back to the fullback then across the centre backs then then the opposition press, then we go back to the keeper and its almost every attack

Well that's thrown the unpredictability cat amongst the Euro 2020 pigeons.

Wales are through on goal difference above Switzerland. Gareth Bale missed a chance that might have made it 1-1 as well. Good to see Chris Gunter playing.

Austria's win over Ukraine means England will be through to the last 16 if Russia or Finland lose tonight.

Half-time: Finland 0-0 Belgium Russia 0-1 Denmark
As it stands: 1. Belgium 7 2. Finland 4 3. Denmark 3 4. Russia 3
If it stays like that, England are through to the last 16 with a game to spare and Scotland would definitely be through if they beat Croatia tomorrow night. Finland would be Wales's last 16 opponents.

Denmark heading through to the last 16 unless Finland can find an equaliser against Belgium. And suddenly Wales will be facing a team with a huge amount of momentum behind them...

Great result for Denmark. The right team has gone through.
Tonight's results mean England are through to the last 16, as are Switzerland, Czech Republic, Sweden and France.

So really only one game to watch tomorrow as England game changes little, ok if England lose and Scotland win, there is a chance Scotland take 2nd but they’d go through now with 4 points anyway even if they are 3rd either way. Which is great as it means Scotland are in charge of their own destiny. Surely we can’t have 2 dream games two days running..

Nope, knowing Scotland's famous failures down the years they will probably be winning with injury time remaining, and end up drawing, and going out.

Last 16 as it stands: Belgium v Switzerland Italy v Austria France v Ukraine England v Slovakia Sweden v Finland Czech Republic v Germany Netherlands v Portugal Wales v Denmark
The winner of Scotland v Croatia is definitely through. If it's a draw, both teams are out and Ukraine will qualify for the last 16.

Tonight's results mean England are through to the last 16, as are Switzerland, Czech Republic, Sweden and France. England and Sweden have both got through to the last 16 despite only having so far scored 1 goal apiece.

Meanwhile the Copa America continues on the red button. It was originally supposed to be a 12-team tournament with three groups of four and two guest teams, Qatar and Australia, but they both had to pull out because the tournament ended up clashing with the delayed World Cup/Asian Cup qualifiers so it's reverted to the old format of two groups of five, last seen in 1991. However, rather than going straight to the semi-finals, they're having quarter-finals, so after 20 group games, only two teams will be eliminated. And people complain about the format of the Euros...
Qatar will instead be a guest team at the CONCACAF Gold Cup, which starts on 10th July. It will have a more conventional 16-team format, though the final three spots will be decided through a 12-team preliminary tournament, which takes place just before the tournament proper.
The draw for the tournament is:
GROUP A Mexico El Salvador Curacao Trinidad & Tobago/Montserrat/Cuba/French Guiana
GROUP B USA Canada Martinique Haiti/St. Vincent/Bermuda/Barbados
GROUP C Costa Rica Jamaica Suriname Guatemala/Guyana/Guadeloupe/Bahamas
GROUP D Honduras Panama Grenada Qatar

The results today now eases the pressure off England, especially as Scotland's Billy Gilmour has now tested positive for Covid-19 and forcing Mount and Chilwell to self-isolate, as they were seen hugging and speaking after the match on Friday.
This positive test could now complicate things very quickly...

Wales v Denmark should be a really entertaining and evenly matched game. Looking forward to that one already.

Russia 1 Denmark 4 Denmark were magnificent and thoroughly deserved this emphatic win. I'd say for 45 minutes, Damsgaard's lovely goal came out of the blue really as Russia had been the better side in the first 40 minutes. But 2nd half they were magnificent, or Russia just fell apart? Can someone tell me which games are on what days for the last 16 please.
