10 Good Fortune - PJ Harvey
I think this is probably my most played song by her these days, its another big MTV2 song. It reached #41 in 25/11/200.

9 Dawn Of The Dead - Does It Offend You Yeah?
There is probably 4 songs that I was really sad that they weren't top 40 hits and of those, this probably ranks 2nd. It is just a brilliant indie pop song and really should have been huge. It also has a very weird video which is really hard to find these days, it took me 4 attempts and I got it now!! This reached #41 in 06/09/2008, I think if we still had more physical singles at the time, it woudl have be bigger.

8 This Time - Bryan Adams
Everyone knows that 'Summer of 69' was a top 40 hit that never was, it reached #42 which is a travesty of course but a few years later, this reissued single from 'Cuts Like a Knife' 1983 album stalled one place higher in 22/03/1986.

7 Falling To Pieces - Faith No More
The first two singles from the 1989 album 'The Real Thing' were both exceptional classics and it was always going to be a tall order following them up. And to any other measure this is a great rock song but it had to settle for #41 in 14/07/1990

6 I Don't Know Why I Love You - House Of Love
Well we knew this was coming, the 2nd consecutive #41 hit for the band who were probably the biggest indie band in the country until two bands from Manchester changed the indie scene forever. This reached its peak on 25/11/1989.

Ok top 5 time and these are all solid classics, we start with some grunge.
5 Rusty Cage - Soundgarden
Must admit I knew about Soundgarden when this came out but they really weren't my thing. I love them now. This was the last single from their 'Badmotorfinger' album and it reached #41 in 20/06/1992.

4 Don't Fight It Feel It - Primal Scream featuring Denise Johnson
Where do you start with this, it was always one of the standout tracks on 'Screamadelica' and it eventually got a single release of its own. I expect many people who wanted this already had it at this point hence the narrow miss. But then the next single totally exploded. This reached #41 in 24/08/1991

Ok I think chart addicts will probably have worked out the top 3 based on my taste but what order, to tell you the truth I cant split my top 2. 3 Lazy Line Painter Jane EP - Belle & SebastianMy absolute favourite B&S song and it will always take me back to the indie club I used to go to and eventually worked and DJed at myself. The DJ at this time was just a mysterious cool figure whos taste was just sublime and I probably have still to this day not tracked down all the songs I loved that he played. No Shazam then This reached #41 in 09/08/1997 with a lot of thanks going to Mark & Lard.

2 Hip To Be Square Peak - Huey Lewis & The News
1986 was the year I started buying music with my own money and one of the first bands I bought were Huey Lewis & The News. I started listening to Chartbusters which was a Bruno Brookes show before the main top 40 where he played songs that were bubbling under. As I was obsessed with Huey Lewis I was willing this song into the top 40 but week after week, it failed and got played on Chartbusters again. I can probably say this song is why i started my own chart, yes that big a deal!
Of course thanks to a certain movie 'American Psycho' this song had a whole new life in the 00s and is now their 2nd biggest song on Spotify. It finally gave up its fight on 27/12/1986.

So what is number one, well if this wasn't I would be shot by some forum members here, not to mention as I am named after one of their songs. Again another band I was slow to get into, they were just a bit much for me and although I bought the album this came from, I really had to force myself to get into it. In fact I was so more into indie dance and madchester I actually preferred the Andy Weatherall remix of it. Ok here we go..
1 Soon - My Bloody Valentine
Now I love both versions equally and it is again is so tied into a brilliant time in my life, it had to be the number one. It reached #41 in 05/05/1990

I think my top 3 would be Courtney Love, Athlete and Lacuna Coil's cover of Enjoy The Silence.
Oh, actually, Lana Del Rey's 'Love' would probably be #1.
And yes, I knew quite a few of these.

I guess this song is just too old for you. I wonder if it was the first single to peak at #41 as it did so back in March 1960
In my chart it reached #18 on the first run but got relegated to #21 on the second. He had a few NM bigger hits "Seven Little Girls.." (NM #4, UK #25 in 1959) which got promoted from a #6 first time round to #4 second time so that compensates and "Happy-Go-Lucky-Me" (NM #9 but not a UK hit, in 1960).
His only other chart hit is on my playlist right now.. It got to #6 in the UK.
