17 Friendly Fires - Friendly Fires
One of only 3 albums from the second half of the decade in the top 20. This was their debut album and I still dont understand why they were not a big band. In took a while but this album finally had a top 40 hit with the deluxe edition but for most its really those first two singles which remain the classics. It is just one of those records you have to play loud that akways makes you feel good. It was their debut album released on XL records and it reached #21 in the UK. It is my 2nd favourite album of 2008.

16 Parachutes - Coldplay
If you have been doing the maths you will see that Coldplay have two albums in the top 20. They can say what you like about them today but I loved these records so much at the time and they still sound great today. It really isnt a shock I loved Travis so Coldplay in this era was an easy change. I just wish they would play guitars again like they do on this album. This was their debut album and it reached #1 in the Uk and #51 in the Us and at the time of making this list its my favourite album of 2000. Im sorry! But its not my favourite Coldplay album!

15 Morning View - Incubus
The other album I didnt buy at the time, I bought just the singles but guess what I managed to get it in Poundland about 5 years ago. Honestly that shop is great for 00s albums. Incubus are my favourite band that I have never seen live, I had tickets but had to cancel due to a family situation. They are an amazing band and still put out goos music but their fourth album is definitely the high point. A combination of nu-metal, alt rock, industrial, prog, rnb and any other sound they throw in. It reached #2 in the UK and #15 in the US. My 3rd favourite album of 2001. If I could sing like anybody it would be Brandon Boyd!

I've missed a lot so will wait for the end to comment fully at this point but glad to see Morning View so high, I loved that album so much! I did have 'Nice To Know You' as my back-up for the opening songs round in Rock Idol

Id really like it finished, will try today and tomorrow, wont be doing much else hehe
14 A Rush of Blood to the Head - Coldplay
Much more introspective than their debut but the songwriting is even better and much more emotional, dont think they will ever match this record. More than 'Parachutes' I have to be in a certain mood to play this album. This was the record where they really went worldwide, another UK #1 and US #5. It is my 5th favourite album of 2002.

13 Let Go - Nada Surf
With Coldplay and Snow Patrol huge right now, Nada Surf decide to change their sound and they nail it. They were maybe heading that way with their 2nd album 'The Proximity effect' but must admit I have not listened to it, need to sort that. So bye bye alt rock and power pop and hello indie anthems. Sadly it never translated into sales although they had some minor UK hits of this record, it never charted in the US or UK. Seem sthey were pretty poplar in France though where their first 5 albums all went top 50. Another album from 2002 this ranks as my #4 favourite.
This is basically their 'The Scientist'

12 By the Way - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Staying in 2002 with my 3rd favourite album of that year and their eighth record. Unsure if this is my favourite RHCP album but its certainly my most played, that first half is just their absolute peak. Must admit MTV2 played the tracks of this to death so I did need a bit of a break from it for awhile. There biggest seller in the UK where it reached #1 and #2 in the US. The album has sold over 5 million in US & Europe.

MY #11 is really honoury top 10 there is nothing between it and maybe right up to my #7, they are that close. All 5/5s near perfect records.
11 Gutterflower - The Goo Goo Dolls
This is my favourite Goo Goo Dolls album and I should have had more faith in it for HF as the singles absolutely stormed the competition, I could have held a couple back. This album deserved to be a huge success but I get its a bit too US sounding for the Uk market with an almost 80s rock feel on some of the tracks. I like emo Goo Goo Dolls, I like punky Goo Goo Dolls but this is their best sound for me, lets not talk to much about Adult Contemporary Goo Goo Dolls although you still get the odd gem. This album reached #4 in the US and #56 in the UK. It is my 2nd favourite album of 2002. Think a few will have worked out which will be my favourite.

So lets count down the top 10 over the bank holiday.
We have 3 from 2003, 2 from 2002, 1 from 2001, 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2008.
Every album is either rock or indie and in some cases both.

10 Songs For The Deaf - Queens of the Stone Age
This was the first Queens Of The Stone Age album I bought, previously I owned "The Lost Art of Keeping a Secret" on single. They were very much a MTV2 band, I grew to love them more and more and I think 'Go With The Flow' was the track that made me a fan. I guess its that Dave Grohl touch. This album is just such a mood, it just sweeps you along and just sounds immense loud.
It was their breakthrough album worldwide although their previous albums had minor success. It reached #3 in the UK and just #17 in the US thought it would have been higher but it haa sold over 1 million in the US and about the same in Europe. This album is regarded as their best and has a metacritic score of 89 the highest for an album released that year. Random point I remember puting on 'No One Knows' on a jukebox laat year, I was basically playing all the music in the pub for 2 hours I tend to do that hehe and this guy about 30 asked me who they were and I said 'Queens Of The Stone Age and he had never heard of them. I was like they are a band of your generation I am supposed to be the one saying that!! Anyway it is my 2nd favourite album of 2001 2002. Gawd an error at this point. Oops Think I will have to make some revised lists at the end.

9 Final Straw - Snow Patrol
Ok Snow Patrol did become a bit bland and generic overtime but there first big label release was a brilliant record. It had jsut enough indie buzz mixed with the pop songwriting and epic ballads. Gary Lightbody is an awesome songwriter and that shine sthrough. To I wish the album jept the more shoegaze mix of 'Spitting Games' instaed of the one with extra twinkling production yes I do, which maybe costs this album a place or two. After a slow start it goes onto be a huge album. It reached #3 in the Uk and #91 in the US.
Here it has sold nearly 2 million copies and about 600000 copies in the US, not bad for a #91. It is my 3rd favourite album of 2003 now although in that year at the time it was probably my favourite.
Must admit I see a lot of parallels with Snow Patrol at this point and Sam Fender, wonder where he will go next.

8 The '59 Sound - The Gaslight Anthem
2008 wasn't a classic year for music especially for rock, Gaslight Anthem stood out above all the new music that year. So much so this is my favourite album of 2008. They weren't doing anything that hadn't been done before but it seemed fresh for the times. I know it had mixed reviews at the time, but even Pitchfork rated it highly with a 8.6. This is also another case of me getting into a band with their second album and not checking out the debut, this is another I need to remember. But i did see them live in 2009 so I probably heard some of it then. Its their biggest selling album so far going Gold in the UK. It reached just #70 in the US and #55 here. Future albums will have more instant success.

7 The Back Room - Editors
And we come to another year end charttopper this time its 2005. There really was nothing else that came close. Editors basically came along and beat Interpol at their own game. That's maybe controversial but no one Interpol album has so many hooks and big tunes as this debut record. Are they trying too hard I think its been proven overtime that Editors and more than mere Joy Divsion revivalists. This album was huge in theĀ UK reaching #2. Random fact 'Munich' was my ringtone, remember those, for about 2 years!

Ended up going to the pub so didnt manage to do this all in one day I tried.
6 Funeral - Arcade Fire
Now I did buy this at the time but it was mostly based on hype, it too me ages to even remember which tracks were which. It lingered in my collection for ages but then I kept revisting when new records came out and then I saw them live in 2010 I think and that sealed it, it was one of my favourite albums of the 00s and I still play it now. It was a slow burn chart wise as well reaching #33 in the Uk and just #123 in the US but their debut album has since sold over a million worldwide. It is my 2nd favourite album now of 2003.

Got too busy then had a rough couple of days but hopefully i can get this finished this weekend
Pretty much any of my top 5 could be the chart topper, they are all my favourite albums from their respective year, different day different time, it could be a different order.
5 Hot Fuss - The Killers
I have mentioned many times how 'Mr Brightside' just blew me away from the moment I first heard it, when it got its first play in the UK and what is even better was that wasn't just beginners luck. This album has a perfect side one and a close to perfect side two, which is almost as much as you can hope for from any record. From the first track, it just leads you on a journey yes it sounds a bit 80s but it is totally now as well. 18 years later it still dounds just as fresh well maybe some of the singles have lost their impact due to over play but I can cope with that. It is my favourite album of 2004 and reached #1 in the Uk and #7 in the US. This next song was my favourite song of 2004.

4 Is This It - The Strokes
Sometimes an album just changes anything and sadly for me this album was just a few months late. Indie music was in the doldrums so much so I quit my DJing job but there was other reasons as well. But if 'The Modern Age' had just been a little sooner, I would have been like , guys check this band out hope they are huge!!! And sticking it out a little longer Indie was about to come back with bells on. This is their debut album of course and its is just perfection. The record that we all needed. It reached #2 in the UK and #33 in the US. It is now my favourite album of 2001.

3 Permission to Land - The Darkness
From the sublime to the ridiculousness in the best possible way. Until it happened did any of us know we wanted a revival of hair/glam metal and Queen in 2003. Well it turns out millions did as for a time The Darkness were one of the biggest new bands in the world. I will admit now Earl Purple beat me to the punch with these guys, when I first saw them in NM's chart just though they were another flight by night, indie underground band that would be forgotten in a few months but then I saw them on MTV2 with a brand new video and everything changed. 'Get Your Hands Off' was just wild. Who the hell are these guys!!!! Zane Lowe hated them and he was my favourite DJ but he still played them and all I can say was they were more than 'Growing On Me' they were now my favourite band bar 1 or 2. Then 'I Believe In A Thing called Love' got re-issued and the rest was history! Yes I fell out of interest in them but I am right back after buying their last 2 albums and I love Justin Hawkins YouTube channel. The album would be a UK #1 and US #38 and would sell nearly 1.5 million in the UK alone and around 3 million worldwide. My favourite album of 2003.
