I haven't listened to their latest stuff, but do recall they went out of Haven Factor when a rather bad Christmas song was used in an early round.
They will be having more hits with songs like "When We Were Young" and a few others but won't get to #1 again. WWWY is likely to be their biggest hit of their future songs.

"Don't Start Without Me" was # 1 in my chart on Christmas 2018.
Their comeback single "Dancing In The Rain" was # 2 in my 2017 Year-End list, only behind YVA - Kaukes.

Given you've been browsing Whitneyfan's topic on Haven Factor history you should be able to look up what song it was that got them in a sing-off.

I need to finish scoring up my last playlist, it's those in the middle that are likely to get the lower places of new entries or not get in at all that take up most of the time.
I often wish there was just one definitive version of a song.
So onto the various cover versions of 1982: it is often the case that the bigger the original hit was in my chart the worse a cover is likely to do. That puts in jeopardy the covers of "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" and "Under The Boardwalk" but the worst thing about those two covers is they go on and on forever for the sake of it. The Drifters' version of Under The Boardwalk is just under 3 minutes and the Tom Tom Club version should be too, or maybe just a bit longer but goes on for another 3 minutes or so doing nothing, whilst it seems that there isn't a good ending for Can't Take My Eyes Off You so they won't bother to end it at all. Under The Boardwalk peaked too low in the UK chart to appear in the covers poll.

Come On Eileen hits the top, the second UK #1 single of 1982 to do so following "House Of Fun" which spent a week on top, and they are the only singles to achieve it this year.
Yazoo and Chas & Dave both follow their NM #1 (and UK #2) singles, but whereas Yazoo went nearly as close in the UK reaching #3, "Margate" by Chas & Dave failed to reach the UK top 40. Apart from Chas & Dave there is another "Cockney" song entering the chart with the Firm, whilst American girl-group the Go-Gos get an entry with their classic "Vacation" whilst lower down UK girl-group the Belle Stars who are an off-shoot of the Bodysnatchers release another cover and do a bit better this time. The original by Shirley Ellis actually entered the chart on my birthday week (well the chart immediately after) and peaked at #2 behind "Here Comes The Night" by Them (on which Van Morrison was the lead vocalist).

Yes this is all going rather slowly, I'm finishing scoring up the next list, with a bunch of well known names with lesser known songs being the ones that are taking up a lot of the time.
A number of Haven Factor acts entering this week, one of my former ones getting the highest entry. One currently in the sing-off getting a high entry with a song they've already used. Much lower down two former winners among others. I can't recall whether the Stranglers have yet been in Haven Factor.
Probably will be eventually. They enter one place above Air Supply who are falling, but who kept the off the top earlier in the year, but the Stranglers did get a week at #1 back in 1977 with "No More Heroes". Is "Strange Little Girl" actually better than "Golden Brown"? Possibly.

Dexy's Midnight Runners remain on top for a 3rd week whilst in the UK they leap up from #9 to #2, the same climb Madness make here, but in the UK their single climbed from an entry position #6 to #4. It would stay in that position for 2 further weeks but wouldn't progress any higher.
Not a great week for new songs, Sheena Easton was actually only 11th on the playlist covering this week and the two that preceded it.

Come On Eileen manages to remain at #1 in spite of the threat by Madness, and actually becomes the first single to stay on top for as many as 4 weeks this year, a feat it will repeat in 2 weeks time in the UK chart, after which it was replaced by Survivor which also stayed on top for 4 weeks, and apart from Renee & Renato at the end of the year they were the only two that lasted that long.
In both cases therefore it was the first since the Human League, but in my chart it wasn't Don't You Want Me by Open Your Heart that was the last single to manage 4 weeks on top, Don't You Want Me being confined to just 3.
Billy Idol gets the highest entry at #8 with "Hot In The City" and originally this song charted later and was stuck at #2 and thus he holds the record for the longest wait to get a #1, but in the replay chart this might get to #1 next week or the week after, in which case he'd change that for the biggest gap between number ones because unless something else happens in the replay chart "Can't Break Me Down" will be his next number one in 2014. But as we know both "White Wedding" and "Rebel Yell" will chart some time before 1985 - White Wedding was a US hit in 1983 and Rebel Yell first charted in 1984.
Jack And Diane was credited to John Cougar at the time and I've kept it that way, but he'll change to John Cougar Mellencamp and then just John Mellencamp.
I often say how songs are "associated" and with that John Wayne Is Big Leggy song climbing into the top 10 it's no surprise to see Toto Coelo enter with "I Eat Cannibals" as I always associate those two.
Below those, Tom Tom Club's cover of "Under The Boardwalk" which would be better if they didn't drag it out at the end, but the Drifters version reached NM #1 ahead of the Beatles' "A Hard Day's Night" and we have Men At Work who would soon have a UK #1 but whilst this song was a #1 in the USA, it failed to reach the UK top 40. When they do make it in the UK they will also top both the singles and albums chart simultaneously in both the UK and USA.

A 5th week on top for Come On Eileen as Billy Idol is now the main challenger, but there's also a big entry next week.
The Kids From Fame enter with the perfect pop song, with vocals by Valerie Landsberg. King Trigger get a high entry with a song that didn't reach the top 40, and Sting's cover for Brimstone And Treacle gets a chart entry, and that song is also now on Spotify.

After 5 weeks of Dexy's Midnight Runners, we have a new number one and it's Billy Idol. Generation X had 5 hits, the highest of which was "King Rocker" reaching #3. In the UK that was their only top 20 hit, and "Hot In The City" didn't reach the UK top 40 either until a remixed version in 1988.
Crashing in at #7 are Duran Duran, who were supposedly very popular already in the UK but up to this point had just a couple of #5 hits - this one came a lot closer reaching #2. The retro chart though was more favourable to them, with "Hungry Like The Wolf" getting to #1 right at its inception and then they also topped the chart with this song and "Rio".
The last Haircut 100 song before they split and Nick Heyward would have some success in 1983, and some lesser success further on.
Two songs next to each other with the same title spelt differently. A short while ago Soft Cell reached #1 with their original "Torch" while Captain Sensible had his cover of "Happy Talk" peak at #3. In the UK of course it was the latter that got to #1. But now they've swapped around who is doing an original song, "What" is a cover of a 60s Northern Soul hit, "Wot!" is an original song.
Nobody does comebacks in the UK better than Carly Simon who comes around again in 1982 with hits almost exactly every 5 years, exactly why I don't know, but she had US and NM hits in between all of those. Of course she has a song among the very short list of best ever songs by solo female singers with "You're So Vain".
Signs of Abba splitting - Frida has a solo song in the chart. Although so does Sting and the Police are not going to quite break up yet, and Midge Ure also had a solo hit a few months ago. It is pretty much over though for The Who, with Pete Townshend back with another solo song, and yet another relative flop for Queen.
Among those not charting at all this week, Nicole's follow-up to "A Little Peace" which actually I had never heard before I had to get it off youtube to put on the playlist because it's not on Spotify. In the UK it spent one week at #75 thus keeping off the official "one hit wonders" list, and as I mentioned at the time of her number one, only she and Abba were winners from outside the UK and Ireland to get a UK #1 single with their winners but only one of them went on to have a major career in the UK, although Abba didn't have it all their way at first - the remixed "Ring Ring" and "I Do I Do I Do I Do I Do" both failed to reach the UK top 30. Nicole did continue to record in German and had hits in her own country.
Another German act failing to make it are "Wonder Dog", a German producer Harry Thumann, who put dog sounds into a synthesizer then played a tune with it. It reached the UK top 40 and was performed on Top of the Pops with Simon Cowell in a dog suit, because he was working for their record company at the time.

I love "Give Me More Time", maybe even more than her winning song.
Nicole is a big star of my chart, already 5 her singles were # 1 hits. In 1987 year she recorded "Song For The World", which was like "A Little Peace" 2.0 version.

Duran Duran move up to #1 but their run at the top will be limited to 2 weeks (as it was at the time) due to an even more massive entry next week, and there are a number of strong ones coming up on the playlists after it.
The introduction of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, one of those being Melle Mel. Grandmaster Flash himself would not go on to be on "White Lines" but this was sort-of covered up by the use of Grandmaster on that hit.
Evelyn King has generally used the "Champagne" nickname in the middle but it was dropped for this hit, which became her highest peaking single, albeit not the one that spent the most weeks in the UK chart, and not sure which of those sold more.
Among the other entries is Joan Jett's cover of Gary Glitter's 1973 song and this cover may well outperform the original on the NM chart as whilst Gary Glitter had many bit NM hits around that time, this one fell way short at #26.

I told you Duran Duran might soon be in trouble - look at what crashes in at #3 this week. In addition, they didn't do that well in Haven Factor but Dire Straits get the second highest entry this week with one of their two UK #2 peaks. In my chart they had a #1 in 1981 with "Romeo & Juliet". Talk Talk are still in the Haven Factor and their song "Today" which has already been played is on the way down having peaked at #7.
Among the other entries, Frank Zappa was a name you had heard of but didn't actually know his music because he didn't have hit singles. Except this one, which was a hit in the USA at least, and Moon Unit is his daughter. He's 41 at the time of this hit, having been in the 60s band "Mothers Of Invention" and would die in 1993, aged just 52. This song peaked at #32 in the US Billboard Chart.

ABC move up to #1, with a song that perfectly sums up 1980s "new romantic" music, if they're labelled that, but to me this clearly fits in to what the early 80s were really about (and not what some documentary thought was important in the early 80s, totally ignoring all the new romantics).
Apart from Mari Wilson though, what are all these entries? I didn't even remember Toto had another song between Rosanna and Africa. Or that the Sugarhill Gang had any other hits apart from Rappers Delight, except that Grandmaster Flash was on the "Sugar Hill" label which I assumed was formed to promote rap artists, and that this was the new rap. In any case "The Message" is in the top 5, making it the biggest rap hit so far.
The next 3 weeks though will see a pile of classic songs. How classic? Well "Danger Games" by the Pinkees - the one that had a strange chart run, is only ranked 16th on the list. Toto was 15th on this playlist with Gary Numan 16th.

18 September 1982 - that was Rosh Hashanah, which fell Saturday and Sunday that year. This year is 2 days earlier than that one, Rosh Hashanam will be 16 September 2023 and will also be Saturday and Sunday. In 2009 and 2020 it fell on 19 September, Saturday and Sunday.
In the UK chart the Jam entered at #5 then climbed to #2 and stayed in that position for a further week, which was quite a slow chart run for them, but they announced their split around that time and maybe that brought out sentiment and people bought it late. Adam Ant's last single also entered at #5 then spent two weeks at #2. That one then climbed to #1, but whilst "Friend Or Foe" was a top 10 hit, he'd never reach those heights again.
In 1981 Boy George was seen on Top of the Pops dancing in the crowd to the Jets. In 1982 he appeared on the stage, and his t-shirt had Hebrew on it. Jon Moss of Culture Club was Jewish, but not Boy George. This song was used in The Wedding Singer where one of the band members always sang this song.
Fat Larry's Band had some previous disco hits but they went soft for Zoom and used their full name and got a big hit. Of their 3 previous singles "Boogie Town" reached NM #37 in 1979, but there was no chart placing for "Center City" or "Lookin' For Love Tonight". They were sometimes referred to as F.L.B

I didn't chart Laura's version of "Gloria", but only because Lena Valaitis released this single too in the same time.

It's the second version of the song to chart with Jonathan King's version reaching #32 in 1979. They were both adaptations of an Italian song by Umberto Tozzi but the English lyrics were different.
That happened previously when Kiki Dee and Helen Reddy both did English interpretations of Amareuse with totally different lyrics.
