The Associates are not my cup of tea at all, I'm afraid. I find his voice more grating than anything. Oh I totally get that but as Scottish indie royalty I really have tried to like him, mostly failing.

53 Kim Wilde - Select
Back to pop for the relief of most people reading this and its another graet album from Kim, I know it split opinon but I love 'Cambodia' yes lyrically its a bit dodgy but atmosphere.vocals and production are awesome and most of the record keeps up that standard. Her second album reached #19 in the UK. 4/5

52 Billy Idol - Billy Idol
Now for an artist that I think I like more now and then. I dunno I just coudnt take him seriously but I don't think you were meant to, you just have to go with it. And you have to appraeciate that he is a very talented guy and to be still releasing and selling music in 2022, an impressive career. But anyway this is his debut album and it features a couple of songs you will know a bit later in his career "Hot in the City" and "White Wedding". Both of which charted in the US and the album reached #45 there. So its a freat early album but he has better to come. BTW he looks a nice lad on the cover but I still don't think dads would want them dating their daughter hehe 4/5

51 Sheriff - Sheriff
Who?? most people say. Well this is an odd one, just about everyone outside the AOR circuit will not know this band until 1989 when an old single gets re-issued due to viral radio play and went on to be a US #1 '"When I'm with You" in 1989. By that point they had formed a new band called Alias who many will know better as they had some minor hits here as well as the US. Anyway this is a gorgeous AOR record amd deserved to be more successful. The album would reach #60 in 1989. 4/5

ok top 50 time 50 Scorpions - Blackout
Another appearance for the German metal band with their 8th album, I am really wondering that one of the reasons I really like them now is Ghost. I think they are going to get better as well. A far bigger band than I realised this reached #10 in the US and #11 in the UK 4/5

49 Night Ranger - Dawn Patrol
Anyone who thinks I only like cerian music because its cool or alernative and has been oked by the taste police clearly has not been paying attention as I would be locked up for many of these entries. I am not even being ironic, first discovered Nightranger on No Limits and have been a big fan of their US hits but only know going through their albums and so far they have been great. This is their debut album and straight away they were having success with a sound that will dominate US radio for the next 5 or 6 years. This first release from the pop metallers reached #38 in the US 4/5

48 Rick Springfield - Success Hasn't Spoiled Me Yet
His sixth album and he is riding a wav eof huge success with multiple hits of this record including a US #2 "Don't Talk to Strangers". This iis a very strong album for him, pretty consistent all the way through. It reached #2 in the US 4/5

47 Donald Fagen - The Nightfly
The debut solo album from the Steely Dan frontman and it's a record that I always associate with DLT, as he used the big song 'I/G/Y' a lot on his show. This though is a very classy record as good as Steely Dan at their best. It reached #11 in the US and #44 in the UK. 4/5

46 Berlin - Pleasure Victim
First appearance for the synth pop act on these lists, I missed their debut but being as nearly all their music isn't on Spotify that's not surprising but the debut has Toni Childs as vocalist so can't imagine it being as good. This was the second album from the nu-wavers who really don't get the respect they deserve being regarded as one hit wonders in the UK but their streaming and download situation doesn't help. This was their first hit album raeching #30 in the US featuring the singles "Sex (I'm A...)" and "The Metro". 4/5

45 Kid Creole & The Coconuts - Tropical Gangsters
From an act pretty unknown in the UK , to one that was a radio staple in 1982-1983. This their third album was stuffed with bangers, 'Annie (I'm Not Your Daddy)', 'I'm a Wonderful Thing, Baby' and 'Stool Pigeon', yep a great run and I loved them all at the time and they still sound great today. This may seem low for such a great album but we are up to #45. The album went to #3 in the Uk and just #145 in the US. 4/5

44 Missing Persons - Spring Session M
One of the best finds of 1982 for me, I found the US hit 'Walking in L.A' a few years ago but that was it and tbh they were more famous for their use in Mylo's 'Destroy Rockn Roll' track 'Missing Persons, Duran Duran' in the UK. But this record is superb, this is how you do new wave, just a great mix of electro, pop rock and syth pop and will an edgy jaggy female vocal which was kind of the thing at the time but she beats Toyah. Their debut album produced 4 US billboard hits and reached #17 in the US.

43 Yazoo - Upstairs at Eric's
Another that I would expect higher in others lists but I think this is a great position for me considering I am not the biggest Alison Moyet fan. But Vince Clark can do little wrong for me and there is so much great music on their debut album. This album raeched #2 in the UK and #62 in the US. 4/5

42 Steve Winwood - Talking Back to the NightWe will see a lot of Steve in the 80s and although his 3rd album is not quite on par with 'Arc Of A Diver' it comes close enough and it does feature arguably his best song 'Valerie' which counts for a lot. It is nowhere close to being as big a seller either but it still reached #6 in the UK and just #28 in US which is poor for his standards. 4/5

41 38 Special - Special Forces
Back again with their fifth album, you wont hear anything revolutionary over the last record, Southern rock is what you want and thats what you get and their fan base is also peaking around now as this is their biggest album yet reaching #10 in the US. It also gave them their first US singles top 10 hit with "Caught Up in You". 4/5

Now the big 40 and these are all huge 40 The Rise & Fall - Madness
This is the fourth album from them and it;s quite a departure. Yes it has big singles like "Our House" and "Tomorrow's (Just Another Day)" but it also covers sounds streets away from their Nutty Boy persona. It seems to be regarded as their best album but I think I woudl need to spend more time with it than I expected. It reached '10 in the UK and was not released in the US although oddly 'Our House' was their biggest hit in the US. 4/5

39 The Passions - Sanctuary
I said these were all huge well actually this is my last pleasant surprise of 1982. I knew the big hit "I'm in Love with a German Film Star" by this British post-punk/new wave band but nothing else and you know how much I loved that album in 1981. Well their third and final album is almost as good. Similiar influences Siouxsie etc but you can hear The Cure and some more pop sounds on some tracks, it really reminds me of Yeah Yeah Yeahs actually. Just a really good indie album that I had to go to YouTube to hear. 4/5

38 Dire Straits - Love Over Gold
They go a bit proggy on their fourth album with just 5 tracks on this record, with only two on side A but it is defintely a case of quality over quantity, "Private Investigations" is one of their best songs and its nice not to have any annoying rocknroll tracks in the mix for once. The album reached #1 in the UK and #18 in the US. 4/5

37 China Crisis - Difficult Shapes & Passive Rhythms, Some People Think It's Fun to Entertain
An odd band, some of their music I love and other tracks leave me cold, their singer is a total ass as well, met him about 10 years ago at a Rewind gig and he was so full of himself. Which put me off them a little but when they are great they are really great. This album though doesn't have many duffers. This was their debut album and it reached #21 in the UK 4/5

36 Rush - Signals
Back to the prog but Rush have moved on a lot, this album is just brilliant. I am really becoming the Rush fan I always knew i'd probably be. Their 1987 hit was one of the first singles I bought with my own pocket money. But this might be too low, think the only reason it is this low is It started to drift into the background of my listening as it neared the end. Top 20 albums hold my attention all the way through. Their ninth album peaked #8 in the UK and #10 in the US and has sold over 1 million copies. a high 4/5

'Upstairs at Eric's' by Yazoo would probably be higher than that for me if I was doing an all-time favourite albums chart hehe.
'Private Investigations' is one Dire Straits' song I've never been able to get into.
