12 Roxy Music - Avalon
This had to be coming and yes fair dos it is a better record than 'Flesh and Blood' mostly due to not having any dodgy covers but it still misses the top 10 though. 'More Than This' for a long time was my favourite Roxy Music song but I do prefer "Same Old Scene" now thanks to "Ashes To Ashes" the TV show. Their seventh album raeched #1 in the UK and #36 in the Us. 4.5/5 As I have said previously I do have all their studio albums, this one I like a lot, not just the singles "Avalon, More Than This, but also The Main Thing & Take A Chance With Me. One of their best.

8 A Flock of Seagulls - A Flock of Seagulls
The coolness continues with this new wave band from Liverpool and their debut record. The band are pretty much a meme now due mostly to their greater success in the US and their ridiculous haircuts, thank you 'Pulp Fiction', they must say. So they were never going to be Duran Duran but their music is just as good. "I Ran (So Far Away)" is one of the best songs that year, although I only heard it first in GTA:Vice City. The album reached #10 in the US and just #32 here, where it didn't sell amazingly but over half a million in the US.
4.5/5
Although I don't personally own this one I do have their greatest Hits which has a few of the songs from this album, stand out tracks I Ran, Messages, Space age love song, telecommunication, I first saw them in 1982 I think on "The Tube",liked them ever since

When I reach the end of 1982 singles, I'll be listening to a few albums. A Flock Of Seagulls isn't one I'd have thought of putting on the list, but maybe I will. As well as Avalon.
I'm expecting The Lexicon Of Love to appear - it hasn't done yet and clearly must do.

7 XTC - English Settlement
Ok after two false starts going to get this done. This was their fifth album and the one that brought them most to public view including myself. 'Sensing Working Overtime' was one of the songs of the year but this whole record is really good, yes if you shaved off a couple of tracks it woudl probbaly be a 5/5 album, it is a littl long and gets a bit samey but it's a great samey. Many thing this was their best record, I am not so sure but I suspect it will still be their highest ginish on these lists. It reached #5 in the UK and #48 in the US.

6 John Cougar - American Fool
I am starting to wonder if John Mellencamp made any bad music in the 80s as so far, all his albums have been amazing, and the ones I have heard to come as well. But yes seemingly there is a dodgy one I missed in 1983, I am not even curious to listen, its a held back album that was made when he was a child star, it totally flopped and I am too afraid, it was called 'The Kid Inside'. But never mind that this is is best record yet and his breakthrough album internationally with the worldwide hit 'Jack & Diane'. I love this album but I know he gets better!! But will he still make my top 10 against what is coming, I don't know. His fifth album reached #1 in the US and #37 in the UK.

5 Talk Talk - The Party's Over
I will say straight away Haven Factor did not affect this position, I love Talk Talk and gave them big points but I had listened to this before the game had really started. This singles are brilliant and the rest is maybe better as a whole record that individually, as a LP to play from start to finish it's flawless but it maybe wouldn't work cherry picking. And like the two albums before this, is this their best, probably not but I can't see any of the rest making my top 5. Their debut album peaked #21 in the Uk and #132 in the US.

4 The Cure - Pornography
This may not seem like a shock based on the fact I won with them in HF, so I was very familiar with their catalogue but 'Pornography' isn't really like any of the tracks I used in that game. I actually had it outside my top 20 before I played it end to end, and I was blown away, this is one of the best Goth albums I have ever heard, it is so atmospheric, chilling, it just leaves you feeling a bit melancholy after. At some points in this year that would have hurt it but the timing was ok, It worked I loved it. Their fourth album reached #8 in the UK and #133 in the US. This was actually #1 on RYM so they called it right.

ok top 3 time, two are pretty obvious but what is the third. 3 Duran Duran - Rio
Their second album and second top 3 appearance in a row. This is the album I had heard the most before going into this year and my number two is my 2nd most played. I would say this is Duran Duran's best album, pretty much perfection and 'Save A Prayer' is their best song no argument. It reached #2 in the UK and #6 in the US and has sold over 2 million worldwide.

2 Asia - Asia
Sometimes, usually supergroups are vanity projects, OTT, terrible or all three and very rarely they are actually as good or better than the previous output of the artists involved. Ok that's maybe controversial I know King Crimson and YES are a very respected bands and ELP as well but coming together on this project they make one of the best Prog rock/AOr albums of all time. But it is prog for the 80s so hence we have pop hooks, catching choruses and shorter songs as well as all the usual prog nonsense. YES will repeat the same trick in 1983 with the help of Trever Horn. This was their debut album featuring the hits "Heat of the Moment" and "Only Time Will Tell" and reached #1 in the US and #11 in the UK.

So my favourite album of 1982, it was never in doubt and Earl Purple knew it was too come but maybe didnt expect it to be my number one. My number one album of 1982
ABC - The Lexicon Of Love
Sheffield we know has a history of producing great bands that just hit the ground running and ABC certainly did that. One of the best debut records of all time, how couls it come out of nowhere, well many of the members had been in a previous band 'Vice Versa' since 1977 so by the time ABC were formed and signed, they were ready. This record is jsut pop perfection, the songs are all so strong, the production although reminscient of Motown in places isn't a pastiche or as obvious as Phil Collins for example, it is the sound of now. And well no surprising as it is produced by that man again Trever Horn. The weakest track is maybe "Tears Are Not Enough" which doesn't sit as comfortable on the record as the others but it is still a great single but maybe they should have left it off. Anyway I could rave on for ages, I have a very pristine copy of it on vinyl which I could probably sell for 20x what I paid for it now but I won't hehe The album reached #1 in the UK and #24 in the US and sold over 1 million worldwide.

Ok I am going to do 1983-1985 in a different thread and I might change the format a little as this is very time consuming. Maybe small posts until 75.
