I thought about putting this in Indie/Rock, since bands in that genre seem to be particularly guilty of coming up with 'edgy' names that make you cringe whenever you have to tell someone about them, but it's by no means an exclusively guitar-based phenomenon. One I rediscovered last year is French easycore band, Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! (exclamation marks are the band's own). I think it's supposed to be a Goonies reference? Either way, it's awful. Their music is pretty good though - this one was a big hit for me last year: Then there's Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs, also known as Pigs x7 for obvious reasons. Their new album came out recently; I haven't heard it yet but the singles are decent; hard rock with a stoner vibe. There's a whole category of artist names I dislike at least partially because of needless punctuation marks, but !!! has to be one of the worst offenders for obvious reasons. I actually quite like a few of their songs but have never got over how stupid the band name is, especially when you literally can't tell anyone about them unless you also happen to know that the band name is pronounced 'chk chk chk' Other candidates: Fred again.. Portugal. The Man The Chicks (well done on dropping the racist part, leaving you with a name that is simultaneously bland AF and also a lil bit sexist)

For me, two of the best worst names around at the moment are both Australian bands.
First we have King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard:
And then we have Psychedelic Porn Crumpets:

Oh, and there's also John (sometimes referred to as John (TimesTwo) to make it actually possible to search for them):

I really like a lot of KG&TLW's stuff - but then there is a lot of it to like! (I also don't actually mind the name though it is pretty stupid.)
John is an exceptionally awful band name - which is a shame as I really like that track you posted!

I've always thought the Goo Goo Dolls is a bid of a weird name.

Oh yes, CYHSY is another prime case of 'do I really have to say this band name out loud?'

The first thing I thought of when I saw this thread and was surprised they have not already been mentioned:
Does It Offend You, Yeah?
Actually, your name does.

I like most of these names mentioned, surely they are better than un-unique ones, the worst band name ever is no contest it is Live but here are some more dishonourable mentions
Pink (before the name change to P!nk) Yes Chicago Jewel Air America Free Asia Sweet Boston Train James Tool

If we're talking just using common words for your band name then what about "The The". I suppose reeating the word makes it more interesting though.

The biggest difference between quality of music and shiteness of name of which I can think right now is The Jam. Sounds more Robinsons than Band.
Also: Beach Boys. Which they hated as well, they were the Pendletones (which isn't much better tbf) until Capitol went off on one.

And of course The Band were around late 60s - early 70s, but it's just a terrible name.

Reading some of these responses, it's clear that there is more than one way to name a band badly. You can go with the 'hehehe, they'll NEVER be able to Google THIS!' approach or the 'so stupid sounding our fans will die inside when they mention us' approach. Or bands that insist on a different pronunciation to how they are spelled, because they are sO eDgY. There's a certain arrogance to bands that go with the first approach, because the practicality problem is greatly reduced if they make it big: most of the ones Razzle Dazzle listed you can find on Google by suffixing 'music' or 'band' or similar (not that that makes them better band names, of course.) A possible subset of this is bands whose names aren't necessarily stupid but are also part of another band's name. I remember in the early 00s it was almost impossible to find Ash on the internet because in America, Wishbone Ash were more popular...

Anyway, a couple of others I've thought of... The Front Bottoms I quite like their music, but c'mon - how old are you, five? ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead I don't actually hate this name, but somewhere there's a death metal band who are annoyed this has been claimed by some mellow alt-rockers
