This conversation about bands not playing their most popular songs reminds me of seeing David Bowie at Glastonbury in 2000. He played an incredible set including all his most famous songs, but when he first came out on stage he'd looked out across the 180,000 thousand strong audience and said "OK, tonight I'm mostly going to be playing songs from my late 80s experimental period"

I've always thought Little Mix is a pretty sh*t name. Didn't they have to change it at very short notice midway through X Factor? I think they were originally called Rhythmix (which is also a sh*t name) but changed it to avoid confusion with a music charity or something.

At the other end of the spectrum, we have the new solo project from Thomas Winkler, who went by the stage name Angus McFife whilst lead singer for the Scottish-themed power metal band, Gloryhammer. Having left/been fired from the band around about the same time as the other members were exposed by mysteriously leaked images to be a bunch of racist, misogynistic asshats, Winkler has now founded a new project called... Angus McSix. It is irredeemably cheesy even by the standards of power metal. But I had to share since this is literally the opposite of the thread title

When i saw them live they were going through a phase of refusing to play Sit Down even though it was a music festival of casuals and not a gig And remember how the stage crew put the backdrop up wrong so it said "SAMEJ" instead 🤣

Another submission from me:
The Mystical Hot Chocolate Endeavors
Stumbled on this band today and thought they seemed up my street with their brand of music, which sits somewhere between alt rock, prog and doom. Not sure if I like them enough to sit through all 98 minutes of the double album they just released, though...

I love Live It Up but I wish it wasn’t by a band called Mental As Anything. It felt as uncomfortably distasteful in the 80s as it does now, but it’s also like a half finished metaphor by someone who couldn’t think how to end it.

I haven't heard enough by them to judge whether they're good or not, but Peaness is such a stupid name for a band.

Don't think it was in the 80s, that was a whole thing wasn't 'I am mental, I am!!' kind of that punk attitude. Didn't actually realise it was not acceptable in that context. It means mad or crazy in a dangerous way not because of an illness or condition. It is a bit dated though as a word, think it went out with lad culture.

Surprised I haven't thought to mention this act before because I love their new album, but:
An Autumn For Crippled Children
A post-metal act from the Netherlands specialising in exactly the kind of gorgeous, atmospheric blackgaze I really like. Shame about the toe-curlingly cringeworthy and frankly quite offensive band name.
