Eurythmics and Yazoo would both be quite high for me. Yes I suspected that, you and several other posters I am sure.

This features the classic single 'Moonlight Shadow' and the rest of the album is pretty good as well. "Mistake" is amazing track.

52 The Hooters - Amore
Structly speaking it is an EP but Wikipedia considers it an album and it has 8 tracks so that's good enough for me. The debut independent record for the Philadelphia band and alraedy this record encompasses all the sounds they will perfect over the next 5 years. New Wave, pop rock, Cajun/roots rock, Soft Rock and even reggae. One of my favourite lesser known groups ever! This re-issued copy of this album even has a brillaint cover of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds", that's how you do a cover. A high 3.5/5

51 XTC - MummerTheir sixth album and pretty much replicately how it did in the charts compared to the previous album. There is nothing wrong with this record just it's not their best, Andy sounds great and the band but the songs are just not quite there but it's still worth listening to but with at least 2 better albums to come and 3 previous , its hard to really recommend. As I hinted the record reached just #51 in the UK and was their lowest seller so far sadly. 3.5/5

Bit of a loss today so lets start the top 50 50 Survivor - Caught in the Game
Their fourth album and their weakest with Dave Bickler on vocals, after the huge success of 'Eye Of the Tiger' they are back to being a fanbase band. And I still enjoy it but they will get better again and more success will return. This album only reached #82 in the US. In the top 50 but still just a 3.5 making 1982 still the strongest year at this point. 3.5/5

49 Thompson Twins - Quick Step & Side KickTheir third album and their best yet, a great mix of catchy pop singles and more leftfield synth pop and funk. But it is still not a must buy but "Love On Your Side" is their best song yet. This album though was a big hit for them at last reaching #2 in the UK and #34 in the US. 3.5/5

48 A Flock of Seagulls - Listen
This is their second album and although it features the song I first discovered them from and loved "Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You)", the rest of the record cannot quite match the quality off their debut. It is still good just I can't quite give it 4/5 but it is the best album not to get that award in 1983. The album reached #16 in the Uk and US. 3.5/5

47 The Waterboys - The Waterboys
Now an album that I had heard no tracks from before and as it was the debut from the folk rockers, I was not sure what to expect but it is really good. The album was not successful though and they were dropped soon after but of course they resigned very quiclly after that. But if you only know a couple of songs by them and not dug deeper I would recommend it. BTW I always forget they were formed in Scotland. 4/5

46 Marillion - Script for a Jester's Tear
Another debut album and a band I get accused of not liking by my wife who was a fan when she was a teen. This is not true at all, I loved their big songs but just never delved into their catalogue as I was always a look forward person. And I probably prefer the band to Fish as a vocalist but I cannot deny that is a great album and shows they work better as an album band rather than singles. The album raeched #7 in the UK and #175 in the US. 4/5

45 Bananarama - Deep Sea Skiving
Yes this is pretty high but the debut album and the one after are my favourite era for the group, yes I like a few songs later but this is their best album."Shy Boy", "Really Saying Something","Na Na Hey Hey (Kiss Him Goodbye)" three great singles and the album tracks are all pretty good as well. This album reached #7 in the UK and #63 in the UK 4/5

44 The Church - Seance
My Church love continues, they are just not doing any wrong for me. This is their third album, and it just carries on like the previous album, just brilliant moody jangly indie music. It's not their best, but I have satisfied with more of the same when it's this good. Still very much an Australia only band still, it reached #18 there, but did make the UK indie charts. 4/5

43 Clannad - Magical RingThis was the 7th album for the folk group, and also the one that brought them attention in the mainstream pop world. Thanks almost entirely to the track "Theme from Harry's Game". But I was brought up on Scottish folk music so switching to Irish was easy, and I love all this stuff, what is weird now is listening to this and hearing how many modern instruments are involved, I always found them sounding ancient and mysterious, but now you hear synths and beats I never noticed before. Slight spoiler, an upcoming Clannad album even has saxophones!! But anyway this is gorgeous, it reached #26 in the UK, their second charting album. 4/5

42 The Fixx - Reach the Beach
The second album from the English new wave group, and I don't know why we keep overlooking our own so much. Their debut album had some minor hits in the UK, so I maybe should check it out as well but why oh why didn't UK radio get behind "One Thing Leads to Another", it is a brilliant song which I never heard until the download era, reached a shocking #86 here which tells me, there was not enough stock and by the time it reached the top 5 in US and Canada, the UK had already moved don, I saw this happen a lot. But they deserved more, and I know they had a following, the album is great and reached #8 in the US and #91 here, 4/5

41 Cocteau Twins - Head Over Heels
Their second album, and although I gave their debut 4 stars, this is more like it. Cocteau Twins are as good as I hoped they would be, it's awkward as I was far more familiar with the EPs than the albums, so most of this is new to me. This was their first charting album, reaching #51 in the UK and #1 in the Indie chart. 4/5

OK the big top 40 and yes I know a few will be controversial, that album can't be better than Cocteau Twins will ring out in this next batch, but it just means I have spent more time with those songs, and they have more meaning to me whereas, it is a first time listen. 40 Quarterflash - Take Another PictureTheir second album and I think it's overall better than the debut, it certainly rocks a bit more and "Take Me to Heart" the probably their best song. That song is an indication of this album's sound, it is very like Heart but without all the crashing guitars, it's the gentler side for sure. This record reached #34 in the US. 4/5

39 Billy Idol - Rebel Yell
Billy's second album and this one is even better, probably is the best record in his career. There are so many of his biggest songs here "Eyes Without a Face", "Flesh for Fantasy", "Catch My Fall" and of course the title track, the album tracks are all pretty solid as well. A career best for sure. UK still not there yet though as the album only reached #36 here but #6 in the US. 4/5

38 ZZ Top - Eliminator
This band made a big impression on me with I was a teen, watched a late night rock show, and they played a bunch of their videos in a row and I thought they were so clever and full of energy, but I thought they were ancient, funny how time works as they were all younger than my dad and in their earlier 30s!!! But then I went to Uni and went all cool and indie and never thought about them much again. This was their 8th album and international breakthrough, and it is just a monster, I was right back being that 14yr old, these tunes are all still awesome, and the album barely lets up, maybe the last couple of tracks are two too many. They had been a constant presence in the US album charts but only had a couple of minor hits in the UK, that all changed with this. The album peaked #9 in the US and #3 in the US. A huge seller, over 1.2 million in the UK and 11 million in the US. 4/5

37 Nick Heyward - North of a Miracle
This was the Haircut 100's frontman debut album and shows how good the next Haircut 100 album could have been. A great run of brilliant singles and the rest of the album quite whimsical, a sound he will stick with for most of his career. But check these singles "Whistle Down the Wind", "Take That Situation", "Blue Hat for a Blue Day" and "On a Sunday", what a run. Sadly, this is the last time he even troubled the album charts solo. Surprised, his 1993 album flopped, loved the song 'Kite' of that. Anyway, this album reached #10 in the UK. 4/5

36 Asia - AlphaA big drop for Asia's second record but not because it's not good, it's great just lacks the big hitters of the debut and I have only heard it twice compared to about 20+ for their debut. So if you like the poppier side of prog rock, this is still worth checking out. The album reached #5 in the UK and #6 in the US. 4/5

35 Wang Chung - Points on the Curve
And here we go again, a UK new wave band who were very underappreciated in their home country. But at least their debut album gave them their only hit here, 'Dance Hall Days'. I don't know what makes one synth pop band cool and others not, but that's where we are. I think it's timing if you started in the 70s then you have cred, if you just appear now, you are just bandwagon jumpers. But this album did ok here though it reached #34 even if the other singles were not successful, the album peaked #30 in the US. 4/5
