Glastonbury 2023
I'm surprised no one has started a thread for BBC coverage of this year's festival from Worthy Farm.
Has anyone else been watching?
My thoughts so far. It's not been a vintage year so far
Arctic Monkeys were technically very good, but with Alex Turner's laryngitis voice troubles clearing adversely impacting his ability to rock & over rely on crooning it felt a wrong fit as a headlining performance. One of other members of the band really should have filled in with talking to the audience, as Alex was clearly resting his voice as much as possible.
Saturday nights headliners Guns n' Roses rocked great live, especially Slash's guitar playing, but Axl's voice is mostly shot and was painful on many occasions.
The Foo Fighters are incapable of being poor live, but they were not at there best on Friday evening; Manneskin with a far inferior back catalogue were much better on Saturday.
I really felt for Lewis Capaldi. That really was a hard watch as he is so likeable as a person. Lizzo was solid enthusiastic Prince style professionalism
It has been a very strong weekend for the Dance Acts; Hot Chip; Leftfield; & Fatboy Slim were all great.
Christine & The Queens; & Rina Sawayama were great vocally & with their choreography. In contrast Lana Del Rey was charismatic but erratic. Starting 30 minutes late, and getting her set cut short by 8 songs was something you'd expect by GNR, not LDR.
Sparks & The Pretenders have still got it. But the highlight for me so far was Rick Astley & Blossoms The Smiths set.

The Lightning Seeds have probably been my favourite of the ones I've watched so far. They gave a great, crowd pleasing greatest hits set (with recent banger 'Sunshine' cleverly thrown into the mix), and rightly finished with what Ian Brodie described as "the song that has become our anthem - whether we like it or not!" Obviously it was going to be 'Three Lions', and it went down an absolute storm in the sunshine!
Rick Astley was on top form too (his main set, as I haven't watched his Smiths one yet). His newer stuff is a lot maturer than his 80s work, but they blended nicely together - and his version of 'Highway to Hell' rocked!
I'm afraid I got bored part way through the Arctic Monkeys set, but I can imagine it was great if you were there - and after seeing a couple of videos where Axl Rose murdered his own songs, I couldn't bring myself to watch the whole thing!

Agree about Axl Roses's voice being shot! I've enjoyed Royal Blood, Chvrches (what was with the arms dipped in red paint at one point?) and Arctic Monkeys set, nice to see them rock up some of the slower numbers. Did I miss Scummy Man and Fake Tales, or did they not play them? Elton John & Blondie later

The only set I've watched so far is the Foo Fighters. Instead, I saw the Pet Shop Boys live in Leeds last night, reprising their Glasto 2022 show. Magnificent.
Nothing I'll see on tv over the next week will come close to the majesty and euphoria of yesterday. But there's plenty I'm looking forward to. Lizzo, War On Drugs and Hives are favourites of mine. I'm interested in Fred Again and Gabrels. I'll check out Lana Del Rey as it will be interesting to see how the whole thing unravels. Elton, of course. Dick Spatsley based on the comments here. No interest at all in GnR or Cat Stevens, and I'll probably be fed up with the whole thing before I get to Arctic Monkeys.
Was there much coverage of the smaller stages ? I'd like to see Rudimental, Phoenix, Young Fathers, Barrington Levy, Cat Burns, not The Smiths, Alison Goldfrapp, Saw Doctors acoustic and many others, but not sure whether they'll be on.
What is clear is that if I had gone this year, I'd have mostly steered clear of The Pyramid Stage, and spent my time elsewhere.

Blondie is another whose voice has gone for me... Just have a look on the iplayer shireb and see who pops up in the various categories they've got, but I expect most to be there.

Blondie is another whose voice has gone for me... Just have a look on the iplayer shireb and see who pops up in the various categories they've got, but I expect most to be there. Debbie Harry is 77. Of course her voice isn't what it was. I've only seen two songs from Blondie's set so far (Rapture and The Tide Is High) and thoroughly enjoyed them. I'm watching Elton John atm (about 15 mins behind) and it's going pretty well. I'm by no means his biggest fan but am expecting a great show. I look forward to seeing Sparks on iPlayer in the coming days. So far, I've only seen The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte with a brilliant performance from Cate Blanchett unleashing her hidden Ron Mael.

Fancy being told, as an up-and-coming singer-songwriter, that Elton John wants you to join him on stage at Glastonbury. Then being told that he wants you to perform one of your own songs. That has just happened to Stephen Sanchez who had a top twenty hit last year.

Oh and we also checked out Jockstrap since that's part of the Blur Wembley line up in a few weeks! Caught a little bit of Jockstrap on the highlights last night. Singer Georgia was pulling double duty this weekend as she's also the violinist in Black Country, New Road who were playing today.

I saw quite a bit but there's lots I need to catch up on.
I thought the sound mixing on the Pyramid Stage wasn't great. Too many vocalists were being drowned out by their bands.
I thought Lizzo was excellent on Saturday night. I saw a little bit of The Big Moon this afternoon and thought they sounded great. I watched a lot of the live red button coverage today rather than relying on the watered-down BBC2 coverage and caught an excellent performance from Weyes Blood.
I didn't get to see Elton John tonight unfortunately so I'll find time to watch that, as well as Queens Of The Stone Age. I want to get round to watching Loyle Carner's set as well.
A shame to hear about the online abuse towards Billy Nomates about her set because she was playing without a band, leading her to ask the BBC to take down her performance. I think I was the first to champion her here at Haven and it's been great to watch her sound evolve and popularity steadily rise. Hopefully her statement that she wouldn't play any more shows after this summer was just a kneejerk reaction.

Oh, I really liked that song that young lad came on and did during Elton John's set. I think he wrote it himself too.

Cat Stevens sounds absolutely amazing. His voice has barely aged a day! I was well impressed by him.
Blondie, I struggled to watch if I'm honest. She's fabulous for someone of her age, but I could barely hear her over the music. Her microphone needed turning up about 5 notches.

Fred Again.. Brilliant demonstration of how to play dance music live. Loved his set.
