A Merseybeat top 3 with Gerry Marsden's group in runners up spot with their UK #2 hit "I'm The One", making 3 UK #1s followed by a UK #2 which would be equaled by another Scouse band 21 years later. But "it's a long way to go" before we reach that landmark.

The first British invasion single not by the Beatles to reach the US Top 20 singles was by the female vocalist of the folk group The Springfields with her first solo single, who is regarded as Britain's greatest female pop singer {Spoiler} although I'm sure a lot of Adele fans would disagree.

18/04/1964 HOLLIES 0-1-1 The first appearance of the harmonic Manchester Beat Group with their UK#2 cover of the 1963 Doris Troy soul/R&B number. I recall watching an excellent documentary (frequently repeated on Sky Arts/Documentaries of The Hollies first decade plus); where they mentioned their management staggered their singles releases in UK/Europe & USA/North America so they could promote accordingly. So it will be interesting to see how much that is reflected in their (lack) of syncing relative to their actual success.
