Artist Chart Domination Aug 1963 - Dec 1999
During the Covid-19 Lockdown I gathered the data of the UK & US Singles & Album Charts, to try and compile an weekly Artist Top 5.
The first combined US Billboard Album chart (Stereo & Mono previously had separate charts) was on the Week Ending 17th August 1963. So I have used that chart as my starting point.
To reflect the relatively lower sales & lesser importance of album sales back then, I initially up to the end of 1968 capture the Top 40 Singles (#1 = 40 Pts ... #40 = 1 Pt) & the Top 20 Albums (#1 = 20 Pts down to #20 = 1 Pt). But from the beginning of 1969 onwards capture the Top 40 Singles (#1 = 40 Pts ... #40 = 1 Pt) & the Top 30 Albums (#1 = 30 Pts down to #30 = 1 Pt)
In addition I will be maintaining an Artist/Act Chart Domination cumulative total for X-X-X (Wks @#1, Wks in Top 5, Pts (5-4-3-2-1)) . This might make interesting reading re comparison between different acts from different eras.
I have the data ready & prepped for up to the end of 1999; and a lot of it semi prepped up into 2021...
So I'm going to post these on a week by week basis with a few videos links added in, here & there.
Please feel free to comment ....
