King edges it...
The tournament's wide open now, especially if Hendry goes out tomorrow.

From the expression on his face, I wouldn't be surprised if he was saying something like that. King faces Joe Perry in the next round.

This afternoon's results: Stephen Maguire 9-2 Joe Swail Stephen Hendry 9-7 James Wattana
Third round draw: (latest scores in brackets) Stephen Maguire v Steve Davis Ken Doherty v John Higgins Peter Ebdon (0-4) Ali Carter Mark Williams v Stephen Hendry Mark King v Joe Perry Mark Davis v Stuart Bingham Paul Hunter (0-4) Ding Junhui Neil Robertson v Shaun Murphy
With Ronnie going out, we're assured of one relative surprise finalist. I wonder if Murphy can do the World-UK double... Stuart Bingham is the form player in that half of the draw though.

I think it'll be one from Bingham, Murphy and Ding in the final against one from Maguire, Higgins, Hendry and Williams. 15th January is the start of the next major tournament, the Masters. Qualifying for the World Championship starts on 5th January, though the final qualifying rounds don't take place until March. This afternoon's scores: Paul Hunter 1-7 Ding Junhui Peter Ebdon 4-4 Ali Carter Tonight's scores: Mark Davis 2-6 Stuart Bingham Ken Doherty 4-4 John Higgins

This evening's scores: Stephen Maguire 8-9 Steve Davis Mark Williams 3-9 Stephen Hendry Mark King 6-9 Joe Perry Neil Robertson 9-8 Shaun Murphy
Quarter-final draw: Steve Davis v Ken Doherty Ali Carter v Stephen Hendry Joe Perry v Stuart Bingham Ding Junhui v Neil Robertson
The reigning champion and World champion are both out. What a result for Steve Davis! He also equalled John Higgins' highest break of the tournament with a 145 in the penultimate frame. Another major quarter-final means he's virtually guaranteed of his top 16 place for next season. I believe Hendry's win means he will move up to #1 in the provisional rankings after this tournament. Stuart Bingham should climb into the top 16. Neil Robertson will move into the top 10. I think he could go as high as #3 if he wins the tournament. Ding Junhui should climb into the top 50. He could go top 30 if he wins the tournament.
I'm predicting a Hendry v Bingham final.

I am so happy for Steve Davis! Today's performance was as good as I'd seen him play for years. It's great to see him doing so well.
