What a result for Steve Davis! He also equalled John Higgins' highest break of the tournament with a 145 in the penultimate frame. Another major quarter-final means he's virtually guaranteed of his top 16 place for next season. I believe Hendry's win means he will move up to #1 in the provisional rankings after this tournament. Stuart Bingham should climb into the top 16. Neil Robertson will move into the top 10. I think he could go as high as #3 if he wins the tournament. Ding Junhui should climb into the top 50. He could go top 30 if he wins the tournament. I'm predicting a Hendry v Bingham final. Joe Perry v Ding Junhui
Perry reaches the semis for the second year in a row. Last year he lead David Gray 8-7 in the semi, with Gray needing a snooker but still managed to lose the match. It's Ding's second time in a ranking semi-final, after he won the China Open earlier in the year.
Davis and Hendry play tomorrow, with Perry and Ding meeting on Saturday.
Also, the draw for the World Championship qualifiers has been made. The qualifying competition has been drastically scaled back from last year. The most major change is that PIOS players (the Challenge Tour last year) haven't been given entry to the tournament. There will only be 14 non-Main Tour players taking part. They will play their own mini tournament, with 2 players going forward to the Main Tour qualifying. I'm not sure how the players have been selected. It may have been by invitation-only. It means that this year's World Championship will have 108 players taking part, compared with over 250 last year. There will be 7 qualifying rounds in total, compared with 13 last year. The qualifying tournament starts on 5th January.

He's still playing but hasn't been on the Main Tour for a few years. Last year, he won his first World Championship qualifying match 5-0 but lost in the next round to David Gilbert, who is now on the Main Tour. |

Davis is at it again! He leads Stephen Hendry 7-1 after the first session of their semi-final!
It resumes at 7pm with Davis only needing 2 frames out of a possible 9 for a place in the final.
When the tournament started, he was 150-1 to win it.

It will be interesting to see who he is playing in the final, against Ding Junhui it could be something special.

I am delighted for Steve Davis. I think he's got a genuine chance of taking the title, if he plays as well in the final as he has done throughout the tournament.

Davis v Ding would be great. I'd probably pick Ding to win that one. If it's Davis and Perry though, my money would be on Davis. Either way, it's great to see Davis in a final again (his 100th!) and I'd love to see him win it. He could be up to 3 in the provisional world rankings after this. Ding would be knocking on the door of the top 20 if he won the tournament.

Ding dominated Joe Perry in tonight's evening session to win 9-4. He was on for a 144 in the final frame but missed the last pink.

Ding becomes the first overseas person to win the UK championship. Must say it was a good match and very tactical.
But yeah, Ding played well on the day and deserve to win

I think Ding truly deserved to win. Steve just wasn't playing anything like as well as he had done for the rest of the tournament. Surely now Ding is going to shoot up the world rankings.
