Ben. I still have this ongoing problem with him though, that everything he does sounds the same I don't think any contestant has been more diverse this series. Compare his performance of Maggie May with Smile for instance. It's just that he has a very distinctive voice The theme this week is no 1's, Westlife are the guests this week (pretty cheap if you ask me). Not happy with any of the song choices to be honest. Ben and Eton Rd probably have the best songs, but ER will just camp it up, and Ben's performance will be a bit predictable. Leona ought to do an uptempo song soon, McDs should stay away from songs as wet as that. Robert's song is too bland for him to truly shine, and although Ray might not do a swing version, his performance will be no different from the previous few weeks. McDougals are now the favourites to go, and based on those song choices, I would say maybe they will. Apparently the winner's song is A Moment Like This (Kelly Clarkson), practically tailor made for Leona

I can see "A Moment Like This" suiting Ben too
won't work for Ray or Eton Road though

My thoughts:
Ray: At least he didn't do swing, but I am still bored with him. Yet again all about the performance and not about the vocals. There was something disturboing about someone as young as him doing a song like that
Robert: I thought it would be an awful song for him, but he really shone with it. He tends to get overlooked but I hope he gets the votes tonights
Eton Rd: Absolutely awful. On paper it was perfect, all they had to do was camp it up and sing it in a lower register. But Simon was right, the individual parts weren't great and it sounded all over the place. I don't understand the obsession with falsetto, and Anthony again wasn't as good as everyone makes out
Leona: She has sung every song effortlessly, but it sounded like she struggled a bit tonight and oversung it a bit. It still was one of the better performances tonight
Ben: Back on form after two shaky weeks, although he could have chosen a better song
MacDonald Bros: Their best performance so far, and I can't believe I'm starting to see potential in them!! They kept in tune and it was polished and professional, and didn't sound karaoke. Much better than both Ray and Eton Rd

Desperate for MacDs to pack their cases, but on those performaces it'll be Eton Road or Ray to go.

Nobody in Westlife nor Delta Goodrem can possibly match Russell Hitchcock's vocals. In fact they can't even stick to one key.

The bottom two were Robert and Eton Rd. Sharon and Louis were obviously gonna save each of their own acts so it was gonna be Simons vote that mattered. Before the two acts were about to sing again ,Simon said that he was gonna base his vote ''on tonights performances - so Robert already has a head start'' ( which i thought was unfair of him to say that on Eton Rd part, and ultimately misleading for Roberts part).
I prefer Eaton Rd (they are the act reason I still watch this show),but both of Roberts performances on the night with the song he had were way ahead of Eaton Rd,IMO.
Simon (after dragging out the decision process like he always does.Like they all do) contradicted what he said earlier and sent Robert home .

I don't think Simon contradicted himself really. Eton Road's second performance was so much better than their first one (although that isn't saying much!) and Robert isn't great in lower register, which most of that song was. On the second performances, I would have saved ER.
Neither were as bad as Ray but neither of them were good either.
Leona was great, and Ben was just predictable.
The MacDonalds were, erm, Scottish.

Sharon could have got Robert to sing Gnarl Barkley's Crazy which he did at bootcamp. When I first heard that I thought he could win the whole show

I don't particularly watch the show but do hear it sometimes as others in the house have it on.
The viewing figures seem to be down this year and judging by this thread compared to a year ago there doesn't seem to be as much interest. I can't speak for every week but there does seem to be some surprising voting going on.
It seems unbelieveable that one of Eton Road, The McDonalds or Ray will be in the last 3. Robert was probably the most talented but I think it has been obvious from the start that a large section of the public didn't take to him.
Most seem to think it is between Ben and Leona. I don't think there will be real any surprises next week but I have the strangest feeling that when there are 4 left the odd voting pattern will have one of them in the bottom 2 and the judges might use this to vote them off to almost guarantee their preferred one winning.
