Thanks for those figures, Smurfie. The Album at 2m seems odd to me. In those days a silver disc was awarded for 300,000 sales so I think because it was certified "silver" they have just quoted that figure for Summer Night City. With only 9 weeks on the chart and 1 week in the top 5 I would be very sceptical it sold that amount. You have to bear in mind that sales of singles were apparently very high at some point in the late 70s so it could very well be.

I thought the So Long sales seemed pretty low as well. Somewhat irritating there are some "sales" figures missing (Lay All Your Love On Me), but I am guessing I should be grateful for what is found. I'm supposing 21k for If I Thought... doesn't seem too unreasonable, especially as it didn't got Top 30 and considering it's 00's sales.

When You Walk In The Room made 34
I make sales for If I Thought around 22k when it was in the top 75, so maybe 23k altogether

The Agnetha singles chart history: 11-22-31-44-55, so it reached no.11. And with the missing figures, it seems like another SAW/PWL struggle we are facing!

The UK Sales, (claim), figure for, 'I Know Him So Well', is too high. It sold about 823,000 in the UK - not 960,000. 'Dancing Queen' is the only ABBA Single that outsold it, in the UK - 940,000. 'I Know Him So Well', would have outsold 'Dancing Queen', had it really sold 960,000.
'Summer Night City', had over 350,000 Advance Orders in the UK - and was Awarded a Silver Disk on the Day of Release. In the 1970's a Single went Silver on 250,000 Sales - not 300,000. A Gold Single had to reach 500,000, & Platinum was 1 Million. (Now it is 200,000 for Silver, 400,000 for Gold, & 600,000 for Platinum).
The only 2 ABBA Singles - that reached the UK Top 5 - to have NO BPI Sales Awards, are 'Waterloo', & 'The Winner Takes It All' - both No.1 Hits. 'Waterloo' should have a Silver Disk - well over 300,000 sold - and 'The Winner Takes It All' should have a Gold Disk - 565,000 sold. In both cases, Epic Records never got around to applying to the BPI, for those Sales Awards. (On the BPI Site, it says that 'Waterloo' has a Silver Disk, but that is for the 'Waterloo' ALBUM - an Album had to sell 60,000 or more to go Silver, & that 1974 ABBA Album sold 70,000).
'The Album' did not sell 2 Million in the UK - it was more like 1,100,000. The 2 Million claim was made by Epic Records, in the early 1980's. 'The Album' was NOT in the, All Time Top 100 Best Selling UK Albums List, last November - as compiled by The OCC. (You had to sell 1,680,651 copies of an Album, just to be at No.100 in the List).
ABBA only had 2 Albums in the Top 100:,
'Gold' at No.5 - Over 3,900,000 sold 'Greatest Hits' at No.27 - 2,598,576 sold
I saw Positions 101 to 110, too, & only 1 ABBA Album was there - 'Arrival' - at No.104, with 1,653,225 Sales.
Had, 'The Album', really sold 2 Million in the UK,it would have been well inside the UK's Top 100 Best Sellers, last November.
Likewise, 'Greatest Hits Vol.2' did not sell 1,900,000 in the UK - that too would have been well inside last Year's All Time UK Best Sellers, had it really sold so many. It really sold about 1,200,000 in the UK.
Nor did the, 'Super Trouper', Album sell 2 Million in the UK - it is more like 1,150,000. Epic Records exaggerated a lot of ABBA's UK Album Sales.
Polydor/Universal, have failed to claim UK Sales Awards, (off the BPI), for several ABBA Albums.
A Budget Album has to sell 200,000 to go Gold, & an ordinary Priced Album has to sell 60,000 for Silver, 100,000 for Gold, & 300,000 for Platinum.
Here are the UK ABBA Albums that SHOULD have Sales Awards, but don't - because Polydor/Universal, did not apply for them:,
'The Music Still Goes On' - over 230,000 sold - Gold 'The Definitive Collection' - over 160,000 sold - Gold '18 Hits' - over 88,000 sold - Silver - and WILL be Gold*** 'Number Ones' - 145,000 sold - Gold
***'18 Hits' is NOT a Budget (Low Priced), CD. It is allowed into the MAIN UK Album Chart, & was a No.46 Hit, earlier in 2007. It has spent 21 Weeks in the UK Top 200 - so far. (The UK Album Chart is really a Top 200, but, 'Music Week' only publishes the Top 75, & The OCC Site only shows the Top 100).
NOTE - 'The Name Of The Game' Budget CD, has sold over 195,000, so far, & WILL reach the 200,000 needed to go Gold - before too long.
Both, 'The Music Still Goes On', & 'The Name Of The Game', are only allowed into the UK Budget Chart. 'The Music Still Goes On', was a No.1 Budget CD, & 'The Name Of The Game', was a No.2 Budget CD.
'Gold' - so far, in 2007, it has sold about 52,000 in the UK - enough to make it the FOURTH All Time UK Best Seller - it was 5th in the All Time Top 100, last November.
It has been in the UK Top 200 for about 674 Weeks, & it had its 353rd Top 75 Week, a few Weeks ago - No.64. It was at No.162, for the Week Ending 20th October, & has jumped to No.78, for the Week Ending 27th October.

Thanks for the interesting facts on the sales! I really wouldn't know much better anyway, the bottomline is that ABBA were one of the biggest sellers ever.

Records can get certifications on advance orders but these are wholesale only - doesn't mean they actually sell that number over counter as shops have found to their cost in the past.
