Coming second in what was nothing more than the quality of a B race isn't much to shout about.
Anyoen know why Nicola Sanders is listed for the relay but not the individuals? Only Lee McConnell ran the 400m. If Nicola is fit to run the relay her time would surely have been enough to make the individual final.

Phillips Idowu wins the triple jump with a Personal Best of 17 metres 81 cm.
Amazing stuff.
Go Team GB!!!

Fantastic stuff from Phillips. Put the pressure on Tamgho right from the start with an excellent jump in difficult conditions and then produced the best jump of his career when it really mattered.
Nice surprise bronze for Martyn Bernard in the high jump as well.
Around half a dozen medal chances for GB this evening...

Very impressed with Idowu especially the manner in which he nailediit - I thought he might only get the silver.
Jess Ennis leading after the hurdles but worryingly her time was slightly off although it was in to a headwind.
But the sivle medalist from the Worlds ran a PB - the commentators don't seem to have picked up on this.

The medals keep coming for Team GB:
So far another silver in the 200m for Christian Malcolm; an unexpected Gold in the mens 110m hurdles for Andy Turner.
And after her last throw in the shot putt Jessica Ennis should be nailed on for Gold bar disaster tomorrow.
We still have real medal chances to come tonight in the two middle distance finals in the Men's 1500m & Women's 800m; and an outside chance in the Men's 400m final.

Malcolm was so close to the gold - heartbreaking. Jessica Ennis is in real danger of not winning the gold - the Russian World Champion is only 110 points behind and has a great second day. I have a bad feeling............................

A topsy turvy rest of the night.
A great result in the men's 400m race: Bingham gets silver. Rooney gets bronze.
The women's 400m hurdles sees a surprise bronze for Perri Shakes-Drayton.
In the women's 800m Jenny Meadows only gets bronze.
But disaster in the men's 1500m race: three finalists including the favourite Andy Baddeley doing the best of the trio in 6th.

Hope things haven't turned for the Brits.
Started with Baddeley who was well fancied to win the Gold. Then both sprint relay teams made a pig's dinner and failed to qualify for the final.
Jessica Ennis is on a knife edge.
The men's 4 x400 relay team looled good though and the women were surprisngly good in qualifying for the final.

Great night last night, spoiled only by Baddeley running like an absolute tool.
As well as the medalists, Hatti Dean in the steeplechase is also worth a mention. Ran a massive PB and just missed out on what would've been GB's biggest surprise medal of the Championships.
Poor showing by the sprint relay squads this morning but we should expect that by now, particuarly with the men. It's always medal or bust. The men's 4x400 looked very good and with Bingham and Rooney to come in tomorrow, they have a great chance of gold.
Should be more medals tonight, with Jessica Ennis in the Heptathlon, Dai Greene and Rhys Williams in the 400m hurdles, Mo Farah and Chris Thompson in the 5000m and Michael Rimmer in the 800m.

The gap down to 18 points in the heptathlon after the javelin, with PBs for Ennis and Dobrynska. It's effectively a straight race in the 800m.

Glad Jessica made it - Ihad a feeling she wouldn't.
Don't see many medals on the last day - maybe men's 4x400m (chance of gold) , the women don't seem strong enough for their relay.
Without getting the Forum sued for libel I'll just say Lisa Dobriskey can only hope for Silver at best.
So many great performances it's hard to pick the best.
BBC Sports Personality of the Year will be interesting. How many athletes will make the final list? After last year if the same thing happens again (perhaps with Rooney?) it might render it pointless.

I have loved these championships, such a fantastic showing across the British Team. Shame we don't seem to have many medal opportunities in the throwing events too but great to see British competitors winning through supreme performances rather than no competition, e.g. Idowu.
Was very impressed with the power demonstrated in the final stages of 200m by Ennis, by Farah in both his finals and by Greene in the 400m hurdles. They showed they were in peak form and poise.
Lemaitre was awesome to watch. Such an ungainly style but tremendous power. He looks slim in solo shots but looks gigantic when next to other runners. So young so could really improve his times to rival Bolt. That would be a spectacle.
And I bow before the majesty that is Merlene Ottey.

After last year if the same thing happens again (perhaps with Rooney?) it might render it pointless. Whilst I didn't agree with Giggs winning last year, I could understand the reasoning behind it and that was his career achievements. There won't be a footballer anywhere near the shortlist this year. It's difficult to judge some of the performances with it only being the European Championships but I would say Idowu and Ennis are both worthy of inclusion, given their events were effectively unofficial world championships. Mo Farah could make it in as well. Possible other shortlist contenders: Amy Williams, Phil Taylor, Andy Murray, Graeme McDowell, Mark Cavendish, Lewis Hamilton. The England cricket team looks nailed on for the team award again.

These championships have really made me look forward to the Commonwealth Games. It should be a great scrap between England, Australia, Jamaica and South Africa, with some good displays here and there from Wales, Canada and New Zealand...

I was shocked at first when I heard that but on reflection it makes sense.

Yeah, McCoy could be in there, especially after winning the Grand National. Not sure he'll win it, though.

I like the blunt honesty of Michael Johnson.
Even though he's Bingham's coach he came right out and blamed his leg as where GB lost the gold in the 4x400m.

He didn't blame his leg at all. He suggested he could have done better in his leg but it's the third leg that lost it for us. 46.3 on a rolling start is completely pathetic and it's a time the best juniors could surpass !!!!
If Dai Greene had of run that leg they'd have won gold.

GB were very unlucky last night.
The Russians were pushing and shoving everyone during the men's relay and not just at the changeovers. If Poland had finished 4th, they might have protested over the push their man got from the Russian at the final changeover. If it's going to be anything goes, Rooney should bear that in mind and just knock them all out when they're lined up...
In the women's relay one of the French runners was taken out by a German incoming runner and that cost them their chance of a medal. Again, if they'd finished 4th, there might've been a protest and that could've seen GB promoted to silver.
I admire Lisa Dobriskey's honesty when she said she wasn't good enough on the night but she was badly hampered at least three times on the final lap by the Turkish woman who ran like a confused daddy-long-legs. Maybe if Lisa had been more patient and not moved wide so soon she might've got a run down the inside like the Spaniard did.
Great effort by Chris Tomlinson. I have never seen him produce such a consistent set of jumps, and just 1cm off silver...
Excellent championships for GB, 3rd in the medal table with 6 golds and 2nd in terms of total medals won with 19, the most ever by GB at the European Championships.
