^ yes the GB men should have won gold but the Russian's used the hurly burly of the relay to great strategic effect.
Good for the women to clinch bronze and the russian's weren't that far ahead. With Ohurogu and a fitter Nicola Sanders we could be much closer esp now that Shakes Drayton is rising so fast. Lee McConnell is very dependable and would hold her ground if she was handed the baton in 1st place or close to 1st. The Russian's lead was well established after 1 leg!

He didn't blame his leg at all. He suggested he could have done better in his leg but it's the third leg that lost it for us. 46.3 on a rolling start is completely pathetic and it's a time the best juniors could surpass !!!! If Dai Greene had of run that leg they'd have won gold. Although I wasn't fully listening I heard Johnson criticising Bingham too. Relatively speaking he ran a worse leg than Tobin. Tobin's leg was almost like a boxing match and was the main reason for his lsow time. You can sy that he should have gotten out of it but if Bingham had run to his potential then he would have been well ahead.

Excellent from GB to get 19 medals and break the record medals tally. Mo Farrah and Jess Ennis stood out in particular. The only real disappointment were the GB sprint relay teams not making the final, the men surely would have medalled which would have taken the tally to 20, but as they've got form for this kind of thing can't be that surprised. The big question is can they get the baton round, though the USA seem to have history of this as well. Any disappointment at Kent girl Dobrisky not getting a medal in the 1500m was made up for by Tomlinson getting a medal in the long jump, which I considered a bonus as you can never be sure of anything from him.
All we're lacking are some discus, shot and javelin throwers. Can't say i care too much about the discus or shot (I know we had Carl someone in the final of that but he was well off getting a medal) but oh for the days of Backley and Hill in the javelin. Up until these champs i thought the javelin competition overall seemed to be going through a rough patch, no Zelezny anymore with no other star names, so it was nice to see someone getting close to 90m.
All this on top of last years World Champs which on reflection have to be the best i can remember (for Bolt's achievements as much as GB). All bodes well for the athletics in 2012!

Relatively speaking given the fitness of Sanders and form of McConnell this year, the women taking the bronze in the 4x400m was the best British performance of the night. If she can avoid injury Shakes Drayton could be a MAJOR star.

I admire Lisa Dobriskey's honesty when she said she wasn't good enough on the night but she was badly hampered at least three times on the final lap by the Turkish woman who ran like a confused daddy-long-legs. Maybe if Lisa had been more patient and not moved wide so soon she might've got a run down the inside like the Spaniard did. Actually this worries me. Whenever the she got boxed in on the back straight my hubby and I looked and one another and groaned "not again." Remember her first big international when she finished 4th full of running after being boxed on the kerb? Alison Curbishley was enthusing that she ran a great race tactically and she will learn from it but will she? If you run great for 99% of the race but the 1% you don't that costs you to me means you blew it. Lord Coe in his very polite way pointed out that she being looking at the screen and not down she could have seen the Turk coming and moved up. Had she not got boxed and had to move out and break her stride she would surely have medalled? She hasn't learnt from before so the fact that she is trying to brush it off " as one of those days" a la Tim Henman hardly suggests she will again. The odds are well against getting a run on the inside.

My expression was like while watching that. The last Russian runner, while waiting for the baton, was pushing the guy to his right SO much,it was maddening to see him get to the finish line ahead of everyone else.

This is an alternative version of the points table I've compiled, where only 1 athlete per country scores points in each event:
1. Russia 207 2. Great Britain 147 3. France 143 4. Germany 140 5. Poland 109 6. Ukraine 105 7. Italy 101 8. Spain 92 9. Czech Republic 56 10. Belarus 50 10. Portugal 50 12. Ireland 36 12. Norway 36 14. Belgium 33 14. Romania 33 16. Netherlands 32 17. Turkey 31 18. Sweden 30 19. Hungary 28 20. Lithuania 27 21. Slovakia 25 21. Switzerland 25 23. Croatia 21 23. Latvia 21 25. Greece 20 26. Finland 18 27. Estonia 12 27. Serbia 12 29. Azerbaijan 10 29. Moldova 10 31. Slovenia 8 32. Bulgaria 7 33. Austria 5 33. Cyprus 5 35. Georgia 4 36. Iceland 2 37. Israel 1 38. Albania 0 38. Andorra 0 38. Armenia 0 38. Bosnia-Herzegovina 0 38. Denmark 0 38. Gibraltar 0 38. Liechtenstein 0 38. Luxembourg 0 38. Macedonia 0 38. Malta 0 38. Monaco 0 38. Montenegro 0 38. San Marino 0
Using the the same system, this is what it looks like if you separate the men's and women's events:
MEN 1. France 104 2. Great Britain 97 3. Poland 73 4. Italy 65 5. Russia 63 6. Germany 62 7. Spain 52 8. Ukraine 38 9. Czech Republic 26 10. Portugal 23 11. Belarus 22 12. Ireland 21 12. Norway 21 14. Belgium 20 15. Hungary 19 16. Netherlands 19 17. Switzerland 18 18. Greece 16 19. Slovakia 15 20. Finland 14 21. Estonia 10 21. Romania 10 21. Sweden 10 24. Latvia 9 25. Lithuania 8 26. Azerbaijan 6 26. Moldova 6 28. Austria 5 28. Croatia 5 30. Serbia 4 31. Turkey 2 32. Israel 1
WOMEN 1. Russia 144 2. Germany 78 3. Ukraine 67 4. Great Britain 50 5. Spain 40 6. France 39 7. Italy 36 7. Poland 36 9. Czech Republic 30 10. Turkey 29 11. Belarus 28 12. Portugal 27 13. Romania 23 14. Sweden 20 15. Lithuania 19 16. Croatia 16 17. Ireland 15 17. Norway 15 19. Belgium 13 19. Netherlands 13 21. Latvia 12 22. Slovakia 10 23. Hungary 9 24. Serbia 8 24. Slovenia 8 26. Bulgaria 7 26. Switzerland 7 28. Cyprus 5 29. Azerbaijan 4 29. Finland 4 29. Georgia 4 29. Greece 4 29. Moldova 4 34. Estonia 2 34. Iceland 2

Overall, a very encouraging week in UK Athletics. Hopefully, this will continue until the 2012 Olympics.

According to Commenee we should have got medals in the men's 4x100m, Sharmon in the 110m hurdles and the men's 4x400m should have got gold.

I think the 4x100 boys could've had the French in the final. I'm not sure Sharman was running well enough to win a medal. For me, the most disappointing event was the men's 1500m. Baddeley and co. made Lisa Dobriskey look like a tactical genius.
