This stuff about where Yorkshire would be if it was a separate country is all a bit silly. First, Yorkshire has a population of over four million so it isn't really doing much better than would be expected given the overall British performance. Second, people are counting medals in team events where one team member was from Yorkshire which is cheating a bit. It's a bit of fun Suedy and we're proud of our athletes. Don't have to take it so seriously. And it's more of a dig at the Aussies as well who have bragged for years about their sporting prowess.

Let Yorkshire enter the games by themselves if they want. And they can fund all their athletes and support teams themselves too. What a stupid statement !!

I think we are going to struggle today, the womans 4 in the kayak came 5th, we might get the odd gold this afternoon in the showjumping, I'm not pinning my hopes on the rest of the Kayak tournaments, we probably get outclassed for the gold, but we might get the odd silver or bronze medal. At the moment I'm watching Taekwondo. We've got some good chances in the 200m canoe/kayak events. Today was always going to be a quiet day. It shows how great an Olympics this has been for GB when you say "we might get the odd gold this afternoon."

As for Sports Personality of the Year - last year there was a lot of carping from feminists and their apologists for no women on the short-list. I'm of the belief people should be judged on merit and oppose 'quotas' and 'positive discrimination'. I agree with you - however, there were a number of females last year that based on merit alone should have made the list, and didn't. That's what needs looking at. Yes and no. I agree entirely with Johnny - gender should not come into it at all - it should be based entirely on merit. Like yourself I think that there were a couple of females last year who should have been in the final ten. On the other hand we're getting into personal preferences and there was no-one in last year's final 10 who did not also deserve to be there. It was just unfortunate that female competitors lost out. While a few of the lists were complete nonsense on the whole those submitted were fair enough. If as Mrh says they are using the same formula but the BBC may replace males finishing at the botom of the top 10 with the next leading females outside it that is even worse and morally wrong. Why should someone who finishes 8th for example be replaced by someone who is perhaps 13th because of their sex? I think Mo Farah might finish second. Obviously there were big celebrations for both himself and Jessica Ennis but both hubby and I felt that there was a slightly bigger response to Farah. Maybe we gauged it wrongly.

Delighted to see a British finalist in the Men's 800m.

I'm not sure if Mo did get a better response for his win than Jessica. (Just imagine if Jessica got a bigger and better response - some might argue this was racism against Mo!) I form an opinion on individuals as individuals not on race or gender...as you I'm sure do too Rubcale. But some will look to see 'discrimination' when there isn't any.
It could be that Jessica Ennis' event is 'less sexy' than the 10000m - or her win was more predictable. Or Mo Farar as more likeable. She certainly got a rousing reception when she first came out to the Stadium on Day 1.

Nick Skelton and Scott Brash are among six riders who recorded clear rounds in the first round of the individual showjumping competition.

Does that mean a gold or silver?

Yes. Guaranteed at least a silver. GB has five other boxers still involved in their competitions.

And because the flyweight final will be the first one tomorrow, Adams could be the first ever woman boxer to win an Olympic gold medal.

It shows how great an Olympics this has been for GB when you say "we might get the odd gold this afternoon." Overall GB have done really well, beating the Beijing medals, I'm not knocking it, this is the best Olympics GB have ever had, and we are progressing in the Boxing, I'm happy the way its going for the GB Team especially with the success in the Cycling, rowing and the equestrain, we have excelled in other sports where we don't normally do well. And for the first time in the Women's Boxing ever we have a female boxer grasping a silver or gold medal, I hope she goes all the way.

Nick Skelton needs a double clear round in the showjumping to force a jump-off for gold.
One time fault would mean a jump-off for silver.

One down No medal for GB. Gold for Switzerland, and a jump-off between Netherlands and Ireland's Cian O'Connor for silver and bronze. Whatever happens, this will be Ireland's first medal of the Games, though Katie Taylor is guaranteed at least silver in the boxing tomorrow.

If the scores from the team competition had been carried forward, Skelton would've won gold...

That was a frustrating one to watch. The groan from the spectators said it all.
