That bronze medal for Grabarz takes GB past the 47 medals won in Beijing, and there are several guaranteed medals still to come in boxing and sailing.

GB's men have joined the women in the hockey semi-finals after a 1-1 draw with Spain. The men haven't won a medal since winning gold in Seoul in 1988.

Well done Makhloufi, a fantastic run and a deserved gold. Good job you have a sympathetic doctor though!

Well done Makhloufi, a fantastic run and a deserved gold. Good job you have a sympathetic doctor though! I don't know what all the fuss is about. Jess Ennis pulled out the hurdles but she didn't require a doctors note. It was a mistake to enter him for the 800 and 1500 but he should just have been allowed to scratch from his heat and not run.

SPOTY odds: 4/9 Bradley Wiggins 7/2 Jessica Ennis 12/1 Andy Murray 16/1 Mo Farah 25/1 Chris Hoy 66/1 Alistair Brownlee 100/1 Ben Ainslie 100/1 Laura Trott 100/1 Victoria Pendleton 100/1 Jason Kenny That would be a pretty solid shortlist but I'd like to see Kath Grainger on there. The thing is how are they going to select the short list this year? Weren't they reviewing the procedure after last year's outcry? That looks a good current list but we don't know what might happpen in the Ryder Cup or if Nick Skelton was to win an individual show jumping medal he would probably get on it. The Scots tend to vote for their own but with both Murray and Hoy on any list that would nullify any advantage. It's actually the final list which will be of the greater interest. I can't see anyone beating Wiggins.

I can't see anyone beating Wiggins. I don't know if they're changing the system. If there aren't many women in the top 10, the BBC might decide to include the three most nominated women, even if they have less nominations. A better option would be to change the people who nominate and replace them with people who actually know something about sport. Wiggins should win but you never know with the British public. Jessica Ennis is amazingly popular as well and she could well win a lot of votes on the night. I said a year or two ago that if Ennis won gold in London she'd be SPOTY for sure but I hadn't accounted for Bradley Wiggins winning the Tour de France, which should be a big enough achievement in itself, without having to add an Olympic gold medal as well.

TABLE TENNIS Men's team
TAEKWONDO Women's 49kg Men's 58kg
VOLLEYBALL Women's beach
WRESTLING Women's 48kg freestyle Women's 63kg freestyle
=====================================
After another amazing day which saw GB soar past their Beijing medal tallies, Day 12 will be much quieter with just 16 gold medals to be won. However, GB can still add to its medal tally.
After winning team gold on Monday, Nick Skelton is co-leader going into the individual showjumping final, with team-mate Ben Maher just behind.
Hopes in the Olympic Stadium on Day 12 should have been resting with Perri Shakes-Drayton, but her failure to qualify for the 400m hurdles means Shara Proctor is GB's best chance of an athletics medal in a wide open long jump competition. World Championship bronze medallist Andy Turner ran well in his 110m hurdles heat and after a disappointing season, looks to be returning to his form of the previous couple of years.
Britain has a chance of a sailing medal in the 49er class where Steve Morrison and Ben Rhodes lie in 5th place going into the medal race, six points off 3rd.
The canoe sprint finals start tomorrow and Beijing gold medallist Tim Brabants has reached the K-1 1000m final but a repeat of 2008 looks highly unlikely. A better medal chance could be in the women's K-4 500m, where the GB kayak qualified in 4th but less than a second behind the Russian team in 3rd.
INFOSTRADA SPORTS' VIRTUAL MEDAL TABLE PREDICTION:
Gold: none
Silver: none
Bronze: none

Given what he has achieved this year 12-1 looks very generous for Andy Murray but that's just a reflection of how much Ennis and Wiggins have achieved. Of course, there is still the US Open tennis to come.

Hopefully Shara is looking good for a medal in the Long Jump. It depends on whether it's a standard type competition when maybe one girl scrapes over 7.00m or everyone excels themselves are 5 or 6 do. It's been an events that's been in the doldrums for quite a long time now. Hope it ignites tonight.

Here are some predictions from various companies before the Olympics kicked off. Bit on the high side...especially for Russia. www.sportsmyriad.com/category/2012-medal-projections/Yorkshire has 5 gold medals. More than Australia. Report to Mod - Link to Post - Back to Top Logged

As for Sports Personality of the Year - last year there was a lot of carping from feminists and their apologists for no women on the short-list.
I'm of the belief people should be judged on merit and oppose 'quotas' and 'positive discrimination'.
Jessica Ennis will make the list - on merit. And will probably be second or third. Bradley Wiggins, I'm sure will win.

I'm of the belief people should be judged on merit and oppose 'quotas' and 'positive discrimination'. I agree with you - however, there were a number of females last year that based on merit alone should have made the list, and didn't. That's what needs looking at.

had a great time at the the dressage yesterday - so pleased i was there to see team GB pick up another gold. it was really tense towards the end, you could have cut the atmosphere with a knife during dujardin's ride - thousands of people all willing her not to mess up - but she did amazingly well.

This stuff about where Yorkshire would be if it was a separate country is all a bit silly. First, Yorkshire has a population of over four million so it isn't really doing much better than would be expected given the overall British performance. Second, people are counting medals in team events where one team member was from Yorkshire which is cheating a bit.

Let Yorkshire enter the games by themselves if they want. And they can fund all their athletes and support teams themselves too.

I think we are going to struggle today, the womans 4 in the kayak came 5th, we might get the odd gold this afternoon in the showjumping, I'm not pinning my hopes on the rest of the Kayak tournaments, we probably get outclassed for the gold, but we might get the odd silver or bronze medal.
At the moment I'm watching Taekwondo.
